I saw a bike trailer for two kids sitting side by side. Mom was just a cruisin' down the street. http://www.bicycletrailers.com/Burley-DLite.pro

Absolutely! Low weight helps. It helps handling too. OTOH, I'm not sure how many people are into lightweight HELC. Rolls and MB kinda inculcated consumers about what a burley tank HELC's ought to be.

My favorite way into the city is Taconic => Saw Mill => Henry Hudson => Dykeman across to the Harlem River Dr. => FDR Dr. For most of that trip you would never know you were in NYC if it weren't for the road signs. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking in places. Watching the recreational bikers along the waterfront or the paths following the parkways make me want to ditch the car and ride! A few week ago I picked up the MS brochure for their lower Hudson ride that included crossing the Tappen Zee bridge! I would love to try one of these adventures some day but this just isn't the time. Plus, I am probably not in shape for it either. 10-15 miles pulling my little one in our Burley trailer along a rail trail is enough to tire me out. Steve

Jeff, I must have missed a link on their web page. I was looking for the hang glider kit or submarine conversion module, but they were no where to be seen! ;) Seriously, I saw one on the trail yesterday, and it is indeed a beautiful product. Unfortunately, their most basic model is about 2x what I paid for the Burley, which is already about 2x what a department store model sells for. Had to draw the line somewhere as the other kid needed a bike! Steve

The Chariot trailers are indeed nice. We have a Burley, but if shopping for a trailer now, the Chariot would be certainly high in the running. -Brian

(marathon runners, long distance bikers, etc.) on this board grew this weekend. On Saturday I took my kids to a local bike shop and helped out the area's economy. We left with a 24" Giant 21spd hybrid bike for Emily, and a Burley Bee trailer for Annie. At 9 years old, Emily was hitting her knees on the handlebars of her 5spd 20" bike (the kid has incredibly long legs), so a new bike was a must. The trailer is quite neat - folds flat, including removable wheel, and attaches to the frame of my Trek right before the rear wheel. The multi-pivot joint allows full freedom of movement when I ride. On Sunday, we loaded up the OBW (trailer inside), bikes on the hitch carrier, and headed for the Harlem Valley Rail Trail in Northeastern Dutchess County. We did about 5.25 miles when I deciced it was time to head back (10.5 miles total). It is a hilly area, but rail lines typically do not exceed 4% grades. The outbound ride was overall down hill, the way back up hill. Temps were upper 70's. No, for you hardcore bikers, this would be a walk in the park. For those of us rediscovering pedal power, it was a great challenge, that left me and my two kids smiling from ear to ear. We did the ride with another family (also with two kids from China), ended the day with dinner at the Millerton Diner, and then roadside ice cream. We all slept well.... Steve
