>It's not General Motors, fault or the UAW's fault that people vote in treasonist politicians that support un free trade after we've seen what it leads too. Did Clinton go for loosening the trade? I don't recall... Who did let the first foreign car plants and builders into the US without substantial tariffs? Which politicians? I was just listening to a roundtable discussion talk show on Chicago AM radio 890 where they were debating what to do about letting the US car companies die? Interesting to hear them talk about Obama and Gettelfinger, etc.

It seems like I read that one climate scientist left NASA because the Clinton administration did not want him reporting his findings that refuted Man Made GW. I don't think the government is capable of doing HONEST scientific research in any area that has controversy. Too many agendas get in the way. 2008-11-12: It seems that one of the sources sent September data rather than October data. Corrected GHCN files were created by NOAA. Due to network maintenance, we were only able to download our basic file late today. We redid the analysis - thanks to the many people who noticed and informed us of that problem. Why do we pay these guys to give US accurate results, when they are continually being caught giving false information? I don't believe these are honest mistakes. I believe it is a case of shuffling data to create a favorable end result for the GW theorists. I just would like to see honest data and debate with NO politicians drawing conclusions.
When I went past a $1.75 station yesterday

I thought about how it was $.75 when I got my first car. What do the Saudi's need to have an emergency meeting with other OPEC nations about? Gas is still $2.59 in Northern Palm Beach County, Fl. When I left there in 1993, RUG was $1.30 there and $1.15 in Indy, and then it hit $1.53 in 1999. $2 is a fair price today if $1.53 was OK back in Clinton Days. It depends on how much $1.53 hurt back then. If you paid $153k for a house in 1999, wouldn't you want to get $200k for it today?
starting wages for GM UAW
by gagrice on Tue Nov 11 21:05:38 PST 2008
With 12,000,000 new citizens under the Obama immigration plan there should be plenty of applicants for any jobs the UAW has open up. These starting wages should make the NEW citizens REAL HAPPY. Starting Pay $ 14.61 Production Rate $16.23 Group B (example: subassembly) Starting Pay $14.00 Production Rate $15.30 Group C (example: material handling) Starting Pay $14.00 Production Rate $14.50 I would say the old timers are lucky they did not get pay cuts. Many Unions have taken pay cuts. They were quite common during the slow times in the oil business during the Clinton years. Glad we could supply you with cheap gas for the only thing the Big 3 could build, gas guzzlers. Now that the pendulum has swung the other way the automakers want us to bail them out. We did not get any bailout when Union people were getting wages cut from $18 per hour down to $10 per hour. When homes in Anchorage dropped in value by nearly 50%, where was the helping hand from Congress and the Fed? People sucked it up and lived on less. Some lost their homes just as they are now. It is all cyclical. It is the automakers turn to bleed.

Well on the other hand you have to give credit where credit is due and President Clinton quietly locked down (to ensure the) USA pre eminence and dominance as the world's coal exporter! ;) He did this at the beginning of his 8 year presidency, So this has been going on for at least 16 years!!! Who are the major customers? aka the Kyoto signers? :P Warren Buffet ( investor that he is) long ago bought BIG stakes in TRAINS (this is all common knowledge). How are trains and coal related? Far and away the BIGGEST train customers are the COAL industries, oil, gas and followed by the commodities such as grains, etc.... If it were left to the "heavier" duty manufacturing (washing machines, etc,) trains would have folded LONG ago. Train companies have long been on the public dole.

I guess my thinly disguised reference was, well, as thin as a campaign promise! I don't disagree with you. I don't hate taxes, I hate how convoluted our tax code has become. Rather than simplify, it just keeps bloating with new laws, regulations, "temporary" cuts/increases... And, as oft mentioned, what is done with our tax $. I guess I just fear MUCH higher taxes from the lower middle on up to "be neighborly" to those below. Even those who paid no taxes (for various reasons, of course. Some would probably be thrilled to pay taxes!) will be getting more "spread the wealth" help from our government, as I interpret the best of intentioned President Elect. I'm hoping that BO is a fab POTUS. Certainly more Clinton-like in the positive way that affects our economy, people and world. I had hoped that "The Decider" would be a fab POTUS (whom I did not vote for, twice), but alas... OK, I'm being selfish. I'd rather give more of my $ to the Gov to redistribute as they see fit as opposed to directing it myself to Make a Wish, Habitat, The Jimmy Fund, MSPCA or my local Jag/Porsche/Audi dealer! Go POTUS Elect! Tax and spend! Again, it's Cynical Sunday! And Lehman Bros, rather than going Chapter, couldn't Fuld have just loaned 'em back some of the half billion he so richly deserved for, well, running a morally and financially bankrupt company?
