Need help with pricing
by hondamom6 on Wed Jul 23 19:31:38 PDT 2008
I am interested in a 2008 Honda CR-V 2WD EXL. My research indicated the MSRP is $26170. I live in East Texas and I got an email quote from Jack of Diamonds in Tyler for $24673 - the esalesman tells me that is drive off price plus TT&L - he swears by email that there are no other fees tacked on and that he can get me the color I want (green tea) although they don't have that color on the lot. Destination charge is included in the price. Meanwhile, I'm dealing in person with Brew Honda in Longview TExas where I have previously bought 3 Hondas. The lowest price they have offered me is $25300 and they keep mumbling something about having to charge more since they would have to deal with another dealership to get the color I want and blah blah. I told them about the other equote and they started rambling on about how Jack of Diamonds probably can't get any and would charge abunch of fees once I got there and so on. After reading the really good quotes people on here are getting and on 4WD at that, I really feel like I'm getting royally screwed. Any help??????
Cargo screen for 2008
by bannod on Mon Apr 28 11:36:08 PDT 2008
Thanks to both of you for your info. Mobo, my "local" dealer is two hours away, in Longview. Where's yours? Their order goes in on Thursday and it will take about 5 days to receive it. I'll get my first oil change when I pick up the screen. I used to live in Texas and miss it dreadfully. My best friend is in Corpus, so I'm driving down to pick her up. We're just gonna wander around the southern states for about 3 weeks. The only definite places we'll visit are Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. We'll be like Thelma and Louise, only with a better ending. With all that heat, I'll need that screen to help the 12v cooler work more efficiently. Thank goodness for all the 12v receptacles, 'cuz I'll have my cell phone, radar detector and GPS all plugged into the first and second rows. I'm a gadget girl.

Well I got exactly what I was looking for and at a very fair price I think 2008 Ext Silverado Dark Metallic Blue Texas Edition-5.3lt V8 20" aluminum wheels, trailering package, power fold mirrors. cargo management system) LT1 Equipment group LT1 convenience package(fog lights, steering wheel controls etc.) MSRP 29950 $26100 plus TTL I got 0% financing plus I knocked a good deal off with my GM card. I have to say I'm impressed with the new Silverado's. Compared to my 05 F150 which I traded in, it rides much smoother and the interior build quality is much nicer. Thanks for your help!

And in the local yacht building business.........
by euphonium on Tue Sep 18 10:06:16 PDT 2007
A year ago, Kalama-based NorthStar Yachts owner Jerry Clark sat on the dock at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida and realized his business needed to change to survive. Potential customers were touring a nearly identical 80-foot yacht in a neighboring slip, but they were ignoring NorthStar's boat because the Chinese-built competitor was selling for $2 million less, said Clark, chief operating officer of NorthStar. "The consumer has become more price-driven," said Clark, 46. "They are willing to accept it being built offshore." So Clark, a Longview resident, started thinking about moving his operations to Zhuhai, China's boat-manufacturing region. He said he made 10 trips to Zhuhai in the past year and "was really surprised at the growth there. It was the opposite of what I imagined." Clark, who worked through translators in China, settled on a pre-built spec factory and laid off the firm's 60 employees in January after NorthStar's plant at the Port of Kalama finished its last U.S.-made yacht. "I've been working with some of these guys for 20 years. We have a family-type relationship," Clark said. "This was a tough decision, but it was either this or close the doors." This is the first major Cowlitz County firm to pull anchor and move oversees, said Ted Sprague, president of the Cowlitz Economic Development Council. However, he said, it is unlikely more will follow suit and outsource production to China, the world's most populous country. "Often times it depends on the capital investments here," he said. "There's a lot of risk moving oversees. Typically, either the capital investment for a company here is so large or the investment is so large that companies won't move." From its Kalama plant, NorthStar made 80-foot to 125-foot long yachts costing between $6 million and $13 million. In China, the luxury boats can be manufactured for about $2 million less with the same number of workers and allow NorthStar to offer more boat options, said Clark, who has been in the boat-building business 28 years. Clark said he had no alternative for keeping the company afloat. Clark followed his father and grandfather into the boat building profession. All three worked for Tollycraft Yachts in Kelso. In 1997, Tollycraft shut down after more than 60 years making boats. Clark bought the company and moved it to Kalama in 1998. The Daily News, 18 Sep 07
Re: I 35 bridge collapse [euphonium]
by 0patience on Fri Aug 03 17:06:42 PDT 2007
euphonium, You must be in my neck of the woods to be talking about the Longview (Lewis & Clark) bridge. I was surprised to hear that 7 years ago, that bridge was inspected and they didn't do anything since then. I may have heard it wrong on the radio, but that seemed odd. Oregon is constantly inspecting the bridges. They have trucks with special cranes that swing down over the side and the inspectors can view the underside of the bridge and inspect it.
