If you are excel literate, you can create your own spreadsheet (I'll expect the experts to proof my work and make any corrections if necessary) Here are the cell labels and their contents: MSRP - Sticker price of the car, in dollars (cell A1, B1) Cap Cost - Selling price of the car, in dollars (cell A2, B2) Residual percentage - residual percentage at end of least (cell A3, B3) Residual value - cell B1 * cell B3 (cell, A4, B4) Term (months) - how long is the lease for? Answer in months - 24, 36, etc. (cell A5, B5) Money Factor - money factor, as a decimal value (.0002) (cell A6, B6) Pct Rate - cell B6 * 2400 (cell A7, B7) Depreciation Amt / Month - cell B2 minus cell B4, divided by cell B5 (cell A8, B8) Interest Amt / Month - cell B2 minus cell B4, multiplied by cell B6 (cell A9, B9) Pre tax Payment - cell B8 plus cell B9 (cell A10, B10) Tax Rate - entered as a percentage (7.5%) (cell A11, B11) Tax Amount - cell B10 multiplied by cell B11 (cell A12, B12) Full Monthly Pmt - cell B10 plus cell B12 (cell A13, B13) Cell B13 would be the full monthly payment, with tax (note - for states like Illinois and Texas, the above formula won't work, as the tax is applied to the whole vehicle, not just the depreciated amount) Edit away!

They're also on the move to sell their Suzuki holdings. Done .. sold their 3.x% stake for about $230 million. Should pay for a day or two's worth of electricity.

Congratulations on selling the Dart. Would I be wrong in assuming that the $400 will help with the "refreshing" of the Catalina? How is that project going, by the way? I got a nibble on the Jeepster .. an email from a guy who wanted to know: 1) how much would I take for it 2) did I have any pictures of the engine compartment, interior and underneath Responded with: 1) MIL holds ownership, so she would be the one to decide the final price 2) I sent him a picture of the interior and of the rear taillight, where there is some rust; no pix of the engine or underneath We'll see where this leads us; if he is still interested, I'll give my MIL his phone number and they can figure out the next step.

V50's, when I bought my cars, and other ramblings

stick - a couple of years ago, I did a quick test drive of a V50 T5 AWD. It was a bit small on the inside for me, but man, did that thing scoot! If you're that down on the Accord, I suspect you'll pull the trigger sooner rather than later, especially with a 90 mile commute. Like q, there is no way I would be able to remember the month in which I bought all my cars. However, November is a month where, for some reason or another, a number of the purchases took place: 1999 Ford Expedition (11/98) 2003 Saturn L300 (11/02) 2003 Ford Focus (11/03) 2005 Saturn VUE (11/04) Ironically, I have the hardest time remembering when we bought cars in my previous wife-time, when I lived in California. I know we bought two in a matter of two or three months ('91 Mazda Protege and '91 Nissan Sentra SE) - this was around Gulf War I and gas had shot up to ... gasp! ... $1.50/gal. Was costing us the princely sum of $30 to fill up our '88 Trooper. The L is the oldest in the fleet here .... the ION was bought in June of '06 and the VUE in August of '07.

Funny you should mention SUV's. Since I bought my first SUV in 1988, there haven't been too many years where I haven't been without one. In the past 10 years, I've had an Expedition, and Explorer and two VUE's. But, this was when we had younger kids and needed the extra room as well as the 4WD / AWD capability in the Colorado winters. The current VUE is just about the right size. Wife likes the visibility afforded by the higher ride height as well as the utility of the hatch area. Plus the AWD, which helped her get to work this morning with the snow blowing sideways and traction being at a premium. As for me, I now work from home and only rarely go to the office, so most of my driving is here in town. I like the versatility of the hatch, though my sedan does offer over 17 cu. ft. of trunk space. About the only thing that goes into the truck lately are my golf clubs and pallets of water from Sam's Club.
