well, I knew I wasn't going to make any headway with you regarding Kia Motors. I, however, have a lot of respect for them, having owned two Kia's. They could use some powertrains that enable owners to get better gas mileage, but they share that with the majority of the automakers. You will get a generous Warranty and a good, solid car when buying a Kia. I liked their bodystyling before Peter Schreyer of Audi Motors joined them and Peter makes them an even better Company. The new Spectra Coupe is going to be a gorgeous sporty looking Coupe from Kia. It's Mitsubishi and Kia fighting for my spending dollar for cars. rockylee...I am interested in the new Chevy Volt for 2010. I have read up on it's engineering and it appears they've designed a propulsion system that is truly green and is innovative as well. With a small ICE motor that kicks in after burning up the initial 40 miles of electrically-propelled cruising. That small gas motor ignites to charge up the generator inside that will then start generating big-time and propel the wheels directly with that energy. Then you can drive for another 350-400 miles. I am really interested in this type of technology and I am interested in a Chevy Volt. I didn't like hearing that Chevy decided to charge $40,000 instead of $30,000 for one. They should've just kept their mouths shut until they knew for sure what the pricing for the Volt would definitely be. But they can be forgiven for that-they are truly hurting and in a crisis. I have been turned off big-time by GM for about 40 years. I loved the GM cars of the 60's. The problem with getting interested in a Chevy Volt now is that Chevy may not be there in 2010. I am guessing they will be, though. rock, go knock 'em over and get that job, man. I am pulling for you. I like a lot of your ideas about the economy and "free" trade and truly what has been going on for years is not completely working. But I made it after Boeing. A lot of job things are personal and are up to you. Go get that job, dude! :) And, as far as the UAW goes, they have won these high wages through strikes. gagrice, you have to agree, they have won those high wages fairly. And people don't like things taken away from them after getting them. These times are truly unique, I now hear Obama is working on not only middle-income tax breaks(for example, someone earning $50,000 a year will only pay 1/2 the Federal taxes under Obama's administration)but he is also working on an economic "stimulus" check like we got under Bush. Humm...I'm thinking Band-Aids, but, like I said, we will get one in 2009 because a lot of us have already heard about this "stimulus" check, right? To take that away from us now would be tantamount to...ummm......treason? ;) Before the new Administration has even began? Understand, people, my thoughts are so now because my son and his friend have just visited us. My son grew up in the liberal NW(Everett, just north of Seattle)and he has been going door-to-door for Barack Obama in Colorado. He left because their economy is horrible. They are on their way to Hollywood to pursue music careers. Yeah, I know. :) To give you an idea where he's coming from, he is one that truly believes the Bush Administration was behind the World Trade Center disaster in Sept. of 2001. Yikes, that's a hard on to wrap my mind totally around. So, imagine him visiting us and having to stay longer because his '85 Cadillac Seville needed a starter put in. And in Willcox that meant waiting for parts and service my son hand-picked in order to get the lowest price. Taught him well! He's so liberal I can almost see Ted Kennedy in his eyes sometimes. So my comments this morning reflect a strong Bush-bashing mentality from him. They have decided to further populate California if they can't get a record contract signed. Probably get a job flipping burgers at Pink's. Knowing my son he might try getting a job in politics. I really differ from him in so many ways. I avoid politics like the plague. A side benefit would be that LA is only about a 7 hour drive from us here in Willcox, Arizona and I could groove to driving over there to visit him and play in LA while I'm there. :P

Box 403, Albany, NY 12204 Second - it is true Toyota is not buying back trucks bought after the recall because of flipping. I've heard many accounts of it on forums I subscribe to. The 150% deal is also, in many cases, sadly off the table. In reuttal - the 150% value isn's all it's cracked up to be - Toyota isn't using KBB value. Again, by truck was worth $14k in february (when I was looking for a doublecab). It was worth $12 in August. Now Toyota is offering me $10 without even looking at it. I just spent $600 in new shocks and brakes. It has a long list of factory options. Toyota tells me they won't give me the $1000 towards a new car. I cannot drive my truck - it will take Toyota 7 weeks to process my check. This is not an annomaly. If your facing a buy-back prepare for a long fight. For another author cited recent repairs and new tires - toyota will no comp you for this like a buyer in the private market would. Month by month Toyota has been cutting buyback offers, scaling back who is included in the buyback, and in some cases, making exceptions. Buybacks (cite the policy bulletin) are not overseen by the NHTSA admin like recalls. Toyota is not legally bound by any means. I agree it's good of them to do this - but all you need to do is watch or read fight club to see the nefariousness of their hidden agenda. "A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one. " Before long there won't be any 1995-2000 Tacomas on the road in rust-belt states. That will be a good thing - I don't want to share the road with them. What will happen to the 2001 and newer series II trucks when they start failing on the road? I don't know - but I won't be driving one.

I now you said you have been in LA traffic but I still don't believe you get it. Traffic simply doesn't move far enough for you to creep at 5 MPH without coming to a stop. we all know the LA shuffle. Put it in first and get rolling. Try and stay far enough back so you don't have to stop with the car in front. Then for no reason you can see the car in front simply stops and no one moves for one to two minutes. Auto of manual you have to stop. If you are on the interchange you will be stopping several times, 50 to 100 before you make it to which ever freeway you originally plan on traveling. That is La traffic. Add a Special event at Dodger stadium, the convention center, or the forum if you happen to be close to one of those events and you method will get you no where.

The wife's sister just moved to NZ and now owns a CNG Camary and a Ford Propane vehicle. They seem to like them I looked a week ago at CNG here in WNC and it was $2.29. Gas is in short supply here and I am not sure about diesel. We drove to AK 3 years ago and the radios were usually talking about the NG supply in the North Slope and the local problems with environmentalists and labor wanting to take it to a port (Valdeze I think) and ship it to the States. The oil/gas companies wanted to build a pipeline. Apparently Gov Palin got the mess fixed on her short watch and they are now starting to build the pipeline through Canada to the STATES. There should be plent of NG when this is finished not to mention the new big find of NG with the center ON LAND near Shreveport, LA... it extends to parts of TX and AR. This NG in AK has been there waiting for the politics to get it to the STATES since 1975 or so. Thanks you green weenies.!!!

You're right - the transaxle has to be slightly in front of or behind the engine unless you have a really tall engine bay, or a short engine (pushrod). Then, you start messing with driving dynamics, handling, cornering, centers of gravity. All of this is why if you want a handler, you need RWD to really balance it. This car won't be that, but isn't priced to be that either. Again, it's not the LS - don't expect it to be. But for what it is, it's pretty darn good, in my opinion. If you want a luxurious cruiser that's good in the snow....for a decent price, you got it here.
