Re: Warranty costs [chuckhoy]

The motors in both our Maytag washer and dryer had to be replaced in less than 4 years. One was under warranty the other, not so lucky. The repairman that came out to fix the first one to go (fried motor in both) said that the motors that they put in them were junk. Too small for the size of the machine. It was replaced with a bigger motor in each case and we have had no problems since. Maytag went from great to junk overnight about 10 years ago. I will never buy another. Sounds like they're starting to build appliances these days like they build cars. Sure, they're better in many ways than what came before, but once things start to go, you're better off just replacing, rather than repairing. My grandparents got a new refrigerator in 1969, the year they remodeled their kitchen. It was an N-something...either Norcold or Norge. Ugly green thing that you had to defrost yourself. It was still running fine though, when they got new appliances in 1994. It went out in the garage, where it replaced this old yellow 50's thing that had the old style latch door where kids could lock themselves in. In fact, it was still running in 2004 when I replaced it with one of my old refrigerators! It was ugly, but still worked fine! In contrast, I've had two refrigerators die on me. One was a 1982 or so model that my Mom gave me when she got a new one. Crapped out in 2002. The other was a 1989 fridge that was in my condo when I bought it in 1994. I remodeled the condo before I sold it, so I brought the fridge with me to use as a spare. Just crapped out this summer, at the ripe old age of 18. Oh, and I think it was a Japanese import, because it was actually RUSTING! :P But then, the fit and finish was pretty sloppy, and the orange peel was pretty noticable, so perhaps the domestics had a hand in it, too. :surprise:

Agree, the S80 is a Scandinavian God. Thor-ish if I may. ;) Some say that about me. I'm a Norge car forum posting God J/K :P Rocky :D

For some reason, whenever I think of generic appliance-cars, that style of Rambler is always the first thing to pop into my mind! :P I like the older styles, that had the horizontal quad headlamps, and the later Rebels and Ambassadors with their curvier bodies, but that style just made me think of an appliance. And the Norge-white paintjob isn't helping any! :surprise: But it does seem to be a well-maintained appliance. And I do like the interior.

well buddy, could I interest you in a nice vintage Chrysler Airtemp house window a/c? I have no idea how old the sucker is, but I think I'm going to retire it this year. Actually works fine, but I'm sure it draws a helluva lot more juice than the newer window shakers! And I've heard rumors that electric for our area is going up by 40-80% this summer. :surprise: My grandparents remodeled their kitchen in 1969. Avocado must've been the "in" color that year. Their old Norge was still running fine, although it got relegated to garage duty back in 1994. I finally donated it in 2004, and it was still running great, just ugly as sin, and NOT frost free! And heck, the paint had less orange peel on it than most modern cars do. Maybe GM should contract out to Norge to paint their cars? :shades:
KIA

Just being honest and unhyperbolic didn't Michael Jackson have one of those. I have never seen him driving a car though, he always has a chauffeured Escalade. Alot of people are saying Kia. A few years ago that would have been me also. I think since Hyundai has taken them over they have some interesting Suv' s. The Sorento and Sportage would be on my list if I were shopping for an Suv. That said I would not drive a Santa Fe, the back door reminds me of my Grandmother's old Norge.

My $99 each Sears USA made home washer and dryer work just as well as my moms $600 each Maytags (made in mexico...I was shocked!) Just not as many bells and whistles........ I just bought a $800 USA made Whirlpool coin operated washer for my apt. building to replace a ancient green Norge one that couldn't be fixed ! That monster had to be 30 plus years old !
