Re: Grinding sound when shifting [sublor]

The cause may sound reasonable, I can't speak to cost... for a reliable NoVA shop I can recommend RPM in Newington/Lorton, 703-550-8240 (near the Springfield Metro). I have no connection with them other than as a long time customer but they are honest and reliable and very competent. At 150k miles, it sure could be synchros but the fact that it follows on clutch work may or may not be related to that work and I agree that the 1st thing I'd do is go back to the shop that did the clutch work. Good luck

There are lots you can do to your bug.there are two things that I would suggest. both I have done and it helps me keep my ride moving well.I would first get the book How to keep your volkswagon alive, by John Muir. it has lots of info that you must know and its easy to understand.its been around for years its in its 26 printing I think.second is find a reputiable shop for vintage vw parts in your area. there are lots of cheap stuff from china out there but it never lasts long so spend the extra cash for as much real vw stuff as you can.If you cant find a place for parts in your area, I suggest Bug City In Newington CT. Dave has saved my but,and my bug more times than I can count. Good luck.

yeah, that's what i meant, thanks! i have another friend who lives on a mile creek road...thats probably why i got them all mixed up. im bad with street names... newington is pretty nice - centrally located to everything, which is good.

Dude, I think you mean Mill Plan Road, rather than Mile Creek Rd. :D Fairfield is definitely a nice town. I hear Newington is also. You definitely need to get another ticket. So do I, man. It's been too long; we're really slacking... :D

im from the great state of CT too - and i got a speeding ticket on my way back to school in RI in 1999 for $274. i was driving on 95N near groton (where they have that big wide 5 lanes across (or something like that) bridge that all of a sudden, the speed limit drops from 65 to 55 for no reason. following the speed of traffic, cop pulls me over telling me im doing 84 in a 55. whoops! sent it in not guilty, and it took them nearly a year to finally set up a court date for me! i had thought they had forgotten! had it reduced to 175, so i guess its ok. that place is infamous for speed traps though... where abouts in CT are you located? im 10 minutes south of hartford, in newington. -thene :)
