Re: Grinding sound when shifting [sublor]

The cause may sound reasonable, I can't speak to cost... for a reliable NoVA shop I can recommend RPM in Newington/Lorton, 703-550-8240 (near the Springfield Metro). I have no connection with them other than as a long time customer but they are honest and reliable and very competent. At 150k miles, it sure could be synchros but the fact that it follows on clutch work may or may not be related to that work and I agree that the 1st thing I'd do is go back to the shop that did the clutch work. Good luck

Well, I finally caught up to all the messages on MTM. Sorry about not being able to get together in DC....couple of reasons 1) Susan recently started taking Femara, which is a post-chemo maintenance drug similar to Tamoxifen...it seems to tire her out, at least at this point... 2) with all the sight-seeing we did during the day, we were all pretty tired by 8:30 (DC is great for walking...we didn't take the Metro once, and left the car at the hotel)...by 9:00 PM, we were all in bed and ready to sleep. Anyway, we had a great time on the trip...we rented a car here in Coral Springs (Alero), filled the trunk up with all of Michael's stuff for camp, drove up to Orlando, and took the auto-train to Lorton. For those who are nervous or hate driving on I-95, this is the way to go...no need to book a sleeper compartment as the coach seats recline with foot rests....dinner and a movie on the train, and breakfast in the morning. As luck would have it, we were practically the last ones to get our car, but we headed to the new Udvar-Hazy Air/Space Museum at Dulles; what an incredible place; an enormous hangar-like space with an incredible array of flying machines...the Enola Gay, an Air France Concorde, the space shuttle Enterprise, and tons of other stuff...while we were there, SUVS and Cars full of Secret Service Agents came in to do a training exercise (or perhaps a look-see at security weaknesses for a visit by some high-up govt Muckity-muck). interesting to see these guys at work. As well as the usual sights and memorials, we hit the Holocaust Museum with Michael (he was too young the last time). Always a fascinating place...somber and insightful...I picked up a great educators package that they had...will be useful in class (this year, I did Holocaust education and special presentations re: my parents' experiences in Lodz Ghetto, Auschwitz (my dad) and Stutthof (my mom)). We also looked up relatives in the survivors database...Susan found her mom, dad, and some othe relatives. I also found my dad, my uncle, and some possible relatives of my mom...gotta get in touch. We saw some wonderful exhibits at the various art galeries, including the only Leonardo in the US at the Natl Gallery of Art. Then on to Jersey to see my Mom, to Suffern to stay with friends...Michael and I went to Rockefeller Plaza to see the Today show, where Michael got Toby Maguire's autograph. We also met with Matt Lauer after the show as his father and Susan's father were at the same hospice in Plam Beach...they died days apart in '97. Matt was happy to meet with us and chat about it...he also autographed Michael's poster...nice gentleman. We dropped Michael off at Camp in Milford PA...a beautiful area in the Poconos, and made our way locally back to Lorton thru hills and towns of PA. Being in DC and NY made us realize how much we miss living in a real city, and seeing hills and mountains other than the overpasses of the Florida turnpike ! I've been on;ine looking at various school systems in Virginia and Maryland, and will try to find a position up there. Speak to all soon.

by lilbluewgn02 on Tue Mar 23 08:53:19 PST 2004
on the way to dropping Michael at camp in PA, we will be stpping in the DC area to do some sightseeing...Spy Museum, ne w Air/Space at Dulles, Holocaust Museum, maybe Monticello...most likely we will rent a car, put it on the autotrain to Lorton, and then drive the rest of the way. Can anybody say "Meet the Small Family?"...dates TBD, but most likely mid - third week in June, as Michael needs to be in camp by June 30th. Will update this exciting news as we get closer...juice, Bob, and gang, see you soon. Gotta run and pick up my next class from lunch

Any reputable and honest BMW dealers in Arlington VA, Alexandria VA or Maryland (near Andrews AFB) area. Also, what is the acquisition fee and what amount should it be.

Thanks for sharing a solution to my trailer woes. However, it's now fix, the payment, one whole wasted day, a bad migraine, several gallons of expensive gas and the bitter taste of a lesson well learned. NEVER BUY ANY ACCESORIES FROM AN OUT OF STATE DELEARSHIP, BUY IT FROM THE DELEARSHIP NEAREST YOUR HOME. Heres how my wasted day went. 1. I left my house at 7:40 am, My stupid GPS took me to the "FASTEST ROUTE" route 395 right in the heart of traffic jammed DC. Arrived at the out of state VA delearship 9 am. 2. My appointment was for one free oil change (first one) and to have the wiring on the trailer hitch fixed. 3. At 11:35 am, my car had it's first oil change and after a "supposedly thorough test" they told me their is nothing wrong with the wire connections on my trailer hitch. My argument that their is really some thing wrong fell on deaf ears, so I borrowed the delearships yellow pages and call the nearest uhaul. I left the delearship around 12:15 (15 minutes was spent by this guy looking for my RL in the sea of Hondas, he later found out it wasn'nt in the parking lot rather twas still inside the shop.) noon and arrived at the nearest Uhaul in Lorton VA about 9 miles away. The loung que at the U-haul and the 102 degress fahrenheit temp registering on the RL's temp gauge made the process even more painful.MY MIGRAINES WAS KILLING ME. 4. I was back at the delearship around 1:30 pm with a Uhaul trailer in tow.I occupied the middle of the three lanes where Honda cars fall in line for servicing, so I get immediate attention. I'ts nice to see customers staring at a new RL needing some repairs in plain view of everyone. The trailer made it impossible for the Honda servicement to drive it inside the shop thus they gave me priority and I believe their ace mechanic was summoned (an elderly gentlemen with 27 years as claimed experience). 4. At exactly 3 pm to my amazement, one of the costumer service guys approach me and told me that the wiring on the trailer hitch is now working.I guess having your Honda repaired in plain view of costumers is a whole lot faster. 5. Upon driving my RL out of the dealership at 3:15 pm. I saw the TPMS lights on for the very first time so I had to make a difficult U-turn. The CS guy not even hiding his exasperation told me just to drive it and it will dissapear.I went back to where I rented the Uhaul and decided against returning back to the delearship for TPMS checkup for fear of catching the traffic going home to MD.I left U-haul in Lorton VA at 3: 45pm. I arrived in MD at 5:20 pm.MY MIGRAINE COMBINED WITH A 102 DEGRESS TEMP HAS AN AMAZING WAY of LETTING ME SWEAR NEVER TO OWN HONDAS NOT JUST ON IT'S FIRST YEAR BUT ON ITS SECOND YEAR AS WELL. HERES MY QUESTION GENTLEMEN, HOW DO I GET HONDA TO PAY FOR MY ONE WASTED DAY, UHAUL RENTAL, GASOLINE WASTED,STROKE INDUCING MIGRAINES AND CRAPPY COSTUMER SERVICE.Guess I'll have more luck emptying the sea using a spoon.
