Bad tire on 08 Highlander
by ronn on Tue Feb 19 06:08:21 PST 2008
If you have Toyo tires, which my new Highlander 08 has, check for defective tires. I have one on the front. Has a big gash line that goes across. It is not certain, but I think it came with a defect. I did not notice it until this past week. I have had the Highlander for almost a month. I have not run over anything that sharp that I'm aware of, so the dealer agreed to order a new one at no cost. Others have told me that Toyo Tires are not very good. I wish they had put Mich. tires on the new Highlanders.
05 Toyota Camry Water Pumps
by sjv1944 on Thu Nov 06 17:19:25 PST 2008
Dealership replaced the water pump on my wife's 05 Camry at 30,000 miles under warranty (they said the original was leaking and had seized though I had not noticed any coolant loss or noise). Now, at 50,000 miles, they say the water pump is leaking again and they will replace it under warranty. I have never had a water pump on any vehicle fail with so little mileage on it. What could cause this? Just bad parts or possibly the belt under too much tension or something else?
Highlander 2008 Review
by ronn on Sat Sep 27 07:26:17 PDT 2008
Can someone tell me why the 2008 review by the editors is not out yet, and the 2009 is already listed? With so many consumer reviews that are excellent, why has the 2008 Highlander not been rated? As for the consumer ratings, it has one of the most reviews of any SUV out there.
Finally > 30MPG!!!
by personatech on Sun Aug 24 20:23:56 PDT 2008
Just drove our new '08 I4 Auto to Athens, GA from Roanoke Rapids, NC (and back again) and finally got almost 31MPG on our Greenville, SC to Athens back up to Burlington, NC leg (which included some city driving in Athens which involved dodging some tipsy students late night downtown). I'm officially satisfied with my mileage now. My son even drove a leg and he's not known for nursing the accelerator!! ;) Thursday I have its first oil change scheduled (just hit 4K miles) - it'll be interesting to see if that affects MPG in any way.
Re: Edmunds cross-over challenge [thardgrave]

I must say I am suprised as well. I love my Highlander Limited. It is a great SUV. On a recent trip, I got 28 mpg on the highway. I find that hard to be for the size of the Highlander. While the Highlander may not be quite as luxury looking on the inside, it fits the bill for me. I get alot of looks with my Highlander, and people comment on what a gorgeous SUV it is. I have not seen too many SUV's that I like any better. I cannot stand the front of the Enclave. I think it is down right ugly ! I guess we all like different things. For me, the Highlander is sharp, and I love it !
2002 TDI Dead Battery after Sitting a Few Days
by pjamme on Mon Jul 21 09:05:30 PDT 2008
I have searched for several items and did not find my problem, so am posting in hopes of getting an answer. 2002 TDI automatic transmission with 170K. I have owned for three years and have had this problem almost from the beginning. Initially my battery went dead in Dec of 2005 and I was towed to the nearest authorized repair shop (no local dealer) said I needed a new battery, so I bought one. that following Spring my wife was on her way to Virginia and the Engine light came on so she was towed to a dealer in roanoke, they said she needed an alternator, so she bought one. Then we went on vacation and took her car. When we came back after 7 days the battery was so dead the Odometer and clock were reset and the little red led on the lock was not blinking, so I put it on the charger. Soon after that another dead battery fiasco and we bought another battery from repair shop number one battery was still under warrantee, but you wouldn't know it by the price. After several more incidences of letting it sit 3 days or more and having to charge the battery or jump it (I now carry jumper cables permanently) I took it to another repair shop to see if there was a short somewhere causing it to ground out and drain the battery. No success and again another time no success. The only strange thing that might be related is I have replaced the driver side brake light at least 6 times or more during that period. The other brake light bulb seems to be a better quality as does the one in the back window. It is now July and I am not looking forward to winter as I know it is worse then. If anyone has had a similar experience and found the answer I would love to hear it.
