Re: And another thing... [cdnpinhead]

"Two years ago, we were quite skeptical of this whole area, because we thought there were too many challenges," said Bill Glover, environmental-strategy director for Boeing's commercial plane division. "Then we started to see a few things we hadn't seen before, people entering the field looking at alternatives, all kinds of feedstock." Sometime next year, the company, in partnership with Virgin Atlantic and engine maker GE Aviation, plans to fly a biofuel-propelled 747. The company is testing biofuels from different origins, ranging from soybeans — a well-established source of biodiesel — to algae.

whobodym, What do you mean by "the wiper lever works upside down"? Just curious, is it works exactly the same and the wiper lever in our Toyota ECHO. I definitely agree about the cubbies in the 5. Again, that ECHO has spoiled us, but it would be nicer to have a few more cubbies. At least the glover box is freakishly large; techinchally the space is in the dash behind the glovebox. We currently have the Gigantic Manual, a power inverter, pluse a few other things back there with room to spare. We have the Auto-Dimming/Compass mirror and it is nice and large, so perhaps that is a worthwhile options for others to consider. As far as our first year goes ('07 Sport, Auto), thing are very nice. Dislikes: -Plastic "metallic" trim around the controls and shifter. scratched and gouges too easiy -Can be a little loud on the Highway with the OEM tires. Ironically our Snow tires seem quieter -A little more storage space would be nice. I have prescription sunglasses and need a spot to hold my glasses case in case a switchover is needed. Likes: -Quiet, Strong 4-cyl Engine (prenty of pull on a 2-lane highway with 4 adults onboad -Flexible Interior. Easy to reconfigure for people/stuff. Enough room for a real person, esp with a child in the middle. Car seats are fairly easy to install as well. -Respectable Fuel Economy. Returning 25-25.5 MPG in 50/50 driving in the middle of winter. My 30+ MPG ECHO is only giving 26MPG this winter, wheras the 5 seems unaffected. (well I secretly hope that summer will bring more like 30MPG in the 5 as well. -Responsive handling. She really drives like a sports sedan, albeit a tall one. I've driven a 3 and the 5 isn't quite as sharp, but handles nearly as well if you push. It'll lean a bit into a corner, but still turn in nicely if you keep going.
Famous people...

I met James Gardner's brother while he was filming a movie at NAS North Island in California. Got my picture taken with him too. I wish I would have saved the base paper it was in. Saw George Hamilton back in 1979 on a flight from Panama city Panama to Miami. What a tan! Also saw Danny Glover in first class in a flight from Baltimore to Dallas. Very serious guy, didn't even smile. I have Bernie Kosar's autograph, he touched my youngest boy's head as he gave him back the autograph. Nice man, very polite and not a prima donna like Thurman Thomas. He disappointed badly. My youngest used to root for the Bills and when Thomas was in town we went to see a celebrity softball game where Bernie was also at. When the kids went up to Thurman he was very stand offish. He told the kids "I don't do autographs unless they pay me." That was the end of that fan era. Oh, same thing with Steve Garvey. :shades:
1995 Safari (MATUREST) IN IRELAND.
by johno1964 on Sun Jun 25 13:55:44 PDT 2006
Hello guys, My name is john and im from Northern Ireland, And i just bought a 1995 GMC Safari Maturest Limited Edition. Having just owned my pride and joy for 5 weeks now, I have to say i get some looks when driving around the streets of Belfast!! and boy she realy does turn heads with her BIG red GMC Badge on the front grill, and that gun-metal paintwork shinning so bright, and the darkened out windows and 19" alloy wheels, And the lovey finish inside off top grade leather and wood, she does look the part, And i have even had people stop and ask me what kind of vehicle she is.....And when i registered the vehicle with are motoring government department they told me its the only GMC in Northern Ireland and maybe even all of Ireland. The only thing that is bugging me is there are some pinstrips peeling off along the roof top sides and also on the drivers door, What i would like to know is could any you guys be so helpful as to tell me if it my be possible to get the pinstrips for this model? I tried the internet but no luck, even on the GMC website and even typed MATUREST but again no luck. Its the only thing thats bad on her and i would love to put it right. Thank you all so much for reading my message. John Glover, Belfast, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland.
1990 LS400
by oac on Mon Jan 16 20:21:11 PST 2006
"In 1989 when Toyota introduced this car to America as a 1990 model, the automotive press thought it didn't have a chance against the likes of Mercedes and BMW. Toyota knew how to build great economy cars and small family sedans but this is the big league. Jokes circulated about this folly, one of which I remember on a TV drama where a car thief who specialized in stealing expensive cars pulled up with a Lexus. When his partner saw him and gave him a look, he said "it was dark, I thought it was a Mercedes." As a matter of fact, the only LS400 that I have ever known to break down was in the 1991 movie "The Grand Canyon" starring Danny Glover (a movie I otherwise highly recommend.) Well, it took less then a year for everyone in the automotive industry to change their attitude and give this car the respect it deserved. Lexus became the standard by which other cars are judged. Only the Mercedes S Class and the BMW 7 Series could rightly claim to be better cars. But they cost $10,000 to $20,000 more than the Lexus LS400 which had a starting price of under $38,000 in 1990." there is probably a ford parts full-width mat set. but frankly, why mung up those costly mats with cleats and/or spikes and mud and grass and perhaps a bleeder or two every season? get a chunk of indoor/outdoor carpet or fake-grass, cut to fit, and throw it back there during the season. when that's over, throw it away and put the real mats in until the two-a-days start again. I'd also throw a couple beach towels over the back seat and take the bunch all out for slurpees to reinforce the notion that it isn't hate, it's just now none of us have to be really worried about messing up the car while we're dirty. I sewed a bedliner out of 5-buck-a-yard blue IO carpet for my new 90 ranger, filled in underneath with old scraps of felt pad left in the halls after the apartment hallways were recarpeted, and didn't worry about the loads I had from time to time. a few places where I stuck myself with #2 glover needles may still be bleeding, though, I just don't want to look....
