Our daughter recently purchased the same auto in upper fairfield county Ct for: msrp 18170 less $1250 rebate less $1000 dealer incentive plus $229 doccument fee plus 3% NC tax ( she doesn't live here, just visiting ) registration fees unknown, she was issued "in transit" plate to get her back home. Bad Experience

Don't pay MSRP for a prius. You can negotiate the price. I have gotten dealers to go as much as 1.3K under MSRP. Yesterday, I went to Fairfield Toyota (near the Bay Area in CA)and negotiated it down to 23,775$ + tax..etc. I decided to think about it and left. So, today the salesperson "Tito" calls and tells me they can still do the deal. I was cautious because I thought they were just trying to pull me in to renegotiate. I told him I'd only go in if we could do the same deal as what we negotiated the night before. I called him back 30 min later just to confirm that the deal was done since the drive is about an hour from where I was. So, when I get there, I knew something was up when Tito greeted us and was hiding behind the salesdesk for 10 minutes. He comes out and says I can only give it to you for MSRP. I was pissed and left promptly. Horrible Experience. I don't like the fact that he blatantly lied twice to me over the phone. Would never go there again.

Re: 2008 GL450 Buy/Lease [adat]

Re adat - Yep. It was $52,600. I ended up doing a lease at $749/mo instead of the buy. Money factor was higher than I expected, but I would have stretched myself a bit with the buy. Globe in Fairfield. I'm a Ray Catena customer ('07 E350 4Matic), but they couldn't do a 2008 GL deal anywhere near that price, so I went elsewhere.

dino....I would imagine that the Tampa area is pretty close to what I've heard described in Southern CA. Never bought in either area, but from what I've heard there a screamer ads as the ones you describe. Smaller dealer groups include Performance (Toyota, Honda, Lexus...they may have some stores in TN and FLA). Another smaller dealer group is called Superior (Honda, Acura, Hyundai, Chevy). The only two BMW dealerships around me are good (although, some say the place I bought mine from....Sweeney....have had issues). The Sweeney group also has a Chevy, Mazda and Subaru store. I think there's one independent Saab dealership, family owned. Same for the other BMW dealership (The BMW Store). There's an independent family owned Buick, Pontiac, GMC dealer (Borcherding). Another independent Nissan dealership (Busam). One independent Ford dealership (Fairfield). Two Mercedes stores, but I'm unsure whether they are part of a dealer group or independent. Past that, you get into the big conglomerates that carry a ton of brands.....Joseph, Woeste, Joseph. Kerry, Lormar, Wyler. They cover everything else...from Kia to Porsche....multiple stores, multiple brands, multiple locations. Of those, I know of the "screamers"....Kerry and Wyler. I stay away from those cause I know what I'm getting before I even walk in. I always feel like I have to take a shower after visiting them. Overall, I know the dealership groups and what they're known for. I stick with who I know for the most part. I trust them. And, the other stores I've either had a bad experience with, or don't want to deal the way they like to deal (keep me in the dealership, grind me, bump me).
