Re: No issues (yet) with RFTs [mjbauer]
by driver100 on Mon Nov 17 06:36:45 PST 2008
So far the RFT's have worked very well for me so this short note is just my $.02 worth I am new here but just wanted to add my thoughts. They didn't explain that our (my wifes 335xi and my 328 Cabriolet) would have RFT until after we bought the cars and we were talked into insurance at $500 a car. I would rather have had a choice, I would have gone with regular tires, but my car has about 10,000 miles and my wife's 12000 miles and I can't say I noticed a difference yet. But the next issue, which I didn't think of at the time was snow tires. I called tire stores first, thinking BMW dealer is going to rip me off once again, but BMW price was actually better....and tire stores weren't that knowledgeable...in fact could be dangerous. I asked one if I really needed rims and he said not really, it's easier and less expensive to change over each season. This is not true as BMW explained and I'll explain later. This dealer told me snow tires could be under $200 each ($150 U.S.) but then I asked him if they were RFT's. He said no, those would cost $500 each and about $200 for steel rims ($400 U.S. and $150 U.S.). Then I checked BMW dealer. Special winter package. For $1700 ($1300 U.S.) they would put on 4 Blizzack RFT's, installed ($100) balanced etc., on steel rims, and with 4 covers to carry my other tires, and put 2 in the trunk and two on the back seat to take home. They said RFT's should really be on rims because removing a tire from the rim causes wear on the tire but especially with run flats because of the stronger sidewalls. What I don't understand is why I can get 4 tires on rims installed etc. for a total of $1700 when the tires were supposed to be almost $500 each when they sold the insurance program, unless they have come down a lot. By the way Blizzack are good, but Dunlop and Michelin have snow tires made out of similar compounds but they will last twice as long. Hope that helps someone out there :)

and I am quite "inane"... Did you think that was a spelling mistake...left out the "s" after the 1st "n"? :P Actually if you two do get together I think there are other sites for that kind of thing, if you know what I mean......

GM's They were early 90's (a 91 and 94 perhaps) model with low mileage. .one had 40k miles. The asking price was around $4,700, for the car with 40k. The other car with 60k miles was priced around $4,300. So, it sounds like you did pretty good. Good car for that guy with the 10 year old Audi he still owed $6000 on!

They got a little "put off" because I didn't call them back with a counter offer (didn't know I had to). Another person, who did a test drive earlier in the week came by, also. He also said I should have called him before closing the deal (again, didn't know I was required to do that). One lady who also test drove it earlier this week, called me last night said she was willing to buy for cash. Where do these idiots come from - the same one's who loan money to their good for nothing boyfriends on Judge Judy? The last one I saw she wrote her boyfriend a loan on a $17,000 motorcycle, which he smashed up completely 2 weeks later AND the dope didn't have any insurance on it (you don't have to have insurance in my state - duh). They broke up 2 weeks after she loaned him the money. I digress....... so what do these morons think (I know I am now insulting morons everywhere), they come in at a low price but they can still be in on the bidding if the price goes up? At least with a house if you want a conditional offer you put down a downpayment for an agreed upon price, and if someone matches it you still have first option to buy. These clowns didn't have a downpayment, didn't have anything in writing.....and will only pay a higher amount if someone else thinks the car is worth it - kind of the opposite to dino (I like it, I'll pay this much for it, either you're with me or without me). If you car salesmaen put up with this kind of mentality you deserve a lot of credit..

That car did save Chrysler though. Still see quite a few 20 year old models chugging around. I mentioned K-Car because I saw one yesterday and I thought how many 20 year old cars are there driving around? And yet, here is this crappy K-Car - you would expect if someone paid 3X as much for a Caddie they would have tried to keep that going. If any one thinks government money or Lee Iacocca saved Chrysler they would be wrong.....some designer was sketching out mini vans and with the oil shortage happening at just the right time...Chrysler with a lot of luck had the right vehicle at the right time - a perfect storm. (Note for Boomer; like your manager said, they were fortunately prepared for the opportunity when it appeared)

Funny, I had "one free oil change" temptation singing in my mind the entire time we were completing paperwork You did great. Why ruin it all with a free oil change $50 over 4 years = 30 cents a day. Like you said, you're happy, they are happy, life is good. Do you always where your helmet when you go to church?
