Re: 2005 Odyssey Transmission Drain Plug Location [stevei54]
by faxpaw on Mon Aug 25 15:58:51 PDT 2008
Steve Did you find the transmission drain plug? If not, it is an inverted plug located (obviously) at the bottom of the transmission on the left side of the engine oil pan. A 3/8" ratchet will fit into this drain plug which Honda says is a 18 x1.5mm or install a short 3/8" socket extension on your ratchet. No need to remove any of the plastic shields. I've had no leaks by reusing the original sealing washer (on the drain plug). The filler plug or bolt as Honda calls it, is hard to get to so I refill the transmission through the dipstick tube. Hope this helps! Dave
Re: Need Tire Advice for 05 Ody [statchmo]
by faxpaw on Wed Aug 06 17:21:01 PDT 2008
I have 83,000 miles on my 2005 Odyssey, 32000 miles on my second set of tires- Yokohama Avid TRZ's. I have the same LOUD noise from my Yoko tires and the tire dealer told me that these tires are cupped badly. I have always rotated my tires at 10k but he said I should have rotated the Yoko's at 6k ! He rotated the cupped tires to the front hoping the extra wear would reduce the cupping. No such luck. I can't stand the noise any longer and I'm ready to buy another set of P235/65 R16 tires. Lot's of info out there about Yoko's, most love them, then there are the rest of use who have experienced cupping problems with this tire. So is it the tire or bad/worn front struts or rear shocks? Anyway I need your help and advice as to what (quiet at least 50K wear) all season tires to try next. Thanks!
Fit so far

Nut shell: Honda Fit Sport 5AT. Blue 27 MPG. Worst 41.4 MPG. Best mileage. 300 mile round trip with 50% A/C 33-35 MPG. Everyday * *This is mixed City/Hwy with A/C and hilly Cincinnati terrain. 30 mile round trip. Still going easy on the engine and have yet to open up the throttle. The car is always run in "D" mode. I engine break on hills and during stopping cycles. My first fill-up was about 37MPG and I was bragging like I just had my first child. The next couple of fill-ups were in the 27MPG range which is good, but 5 less than my 2000 Civic. Took a day trip from Cincinnati to Granville OH. A/C was running during the outbound leg. My Fit ran 41+MPG. I was jumping for joy. I now have about 1800 miles on the car and am getting 33-34MPG on my workday commute. The A/C is running about 65% of the time. I expect my MPG to increase by 2-4 with the AirCon off. Agree?

Looks like Subaru Canada chose urban-hip Vancouver as its photo-shoot site. Seems to fit the new image they're going for. The new WRX @ ever-trendy Granville Island: Nice display of the airbag system: Looks like good rear legroom: & the hatch... don't think there's really enough room behind the rear seats for a husky... that area between the headrests & the glass just looks too small for that, to me.
Re: Power steering pump noise? [genboy]
by faxpaw on Tue Mar 13 19:41:24 PDT 2007
genboy: Replacing the reservoir worked for me (posting #4885) but I have 100,000 fewer miles on my 2005 Odyssey. Gave my 2000 Odyssey to my daughter it has 170,000 miles with no power steering issues so far. It's possible that you may need to replace the pump. But I would first check the belt (is it the original?). If the belt is in good shape then checking the tension would be the next step. Best of luck and let us know what you find!

From my previous posting (March 2006) : We purchased our 2005 Ody EXL-NAV in Jan 05. On a trip to Northern Michigan in May 2005 (with 7,000 miles on the van) the power steering pump started making the same noises as reported by other forum members. We called the Honda Dealer in Traverse City to see if we could safely drive the van back home. The Service Rep at Williams Honda was extremely helpful and stated that they had already replaced several power steering pumps on the 2005 Ody model and yes we should be able to get home ok. Upon our return we took our Ody to our local dealer, and they replaced the power steering pump. Unfortunately 6 months later the power steering unit started making noise again. Yesterday (6/6/06), once again miles from home, the pump was so noisy that I thought it would lock up. I called Hinderer Honda this morning and they stated that Honda agrees that they have noise problems with the Ody power steering system and recommends replacement of the power steering reservoir as a temporary fix. (Permanent fix still in the design stage?) 12/13/06 update: The power steering reservoir was replaced (June 2006) and so far the unit has been fairly quiet. Hope this helps and I would be interested if forum members have any further information on the power steering noise issue. Dave
