"I also contacted two other dealers, one refused to give me a price unless I came in the other was slightly above Towne" Well, I guess you didn't contact Suresky in Goshen, NY like I told you to because if you did you would have found out you could get one for $13,992 as they are running full page ads in our local newspaper EVERY day. And they are STILL giving the $2000 rebate. And another $500 on top of that if you already own a Hyundai. A loyalty credit. You prove what you have and Hyundai gives the loyalty credit.

"I purchased a new 2008 Elantra GLS Auto w/pop equipment package in June for 13,550.00 OTD. The car was recently totaled in an accident so I need to replace it. I stumbled upon this forum and I'm starting to wonder whether I received a good deal or not. The car performed great in the accident, we were sandwiched between two truck and everyone walked away unharmed. Any thoughts would be appreciated, I keep seeing Towne Hyundai in NJ mentioned and wonder if I could do better." OK... has your insurance company told you what they are going to pay yet and did you have a loan as that will get paid first and then depending on the value of your car you will then get the difference as they figure you put down a down payment. You state your price was out the door. I paid $14000 for mine, then I had tax on top of that and and the interest compounded into my car payment. If you had a loan, you will not have to pay all that interest compounded as the insurance company will pay your lienholder first before giving you a check. If your insurance company has not given you an idea yet of what is being paid I would suggest you go to www.kbb.com an put in your specs. And look at retail value to get an idea of what your car is worth. I don't kow where you live, but Suresky in Goshen, NY is selling Elantras right now for about $13992 plus tax. This is why I ask you if your price included tax as my husband and I bought our Elantras on June 5, 2008 and Suresky gave us the cheapest price of anyone else in our area of 100 miles. If you are looking at Towne Hyundai in NJ, I would think it might be worth a trip to NY to check out the price. And DON'T do an internet price as they come up higher. Also, if you do want to do an internet search look up some dealers with websites that say "Make an offer". High Point Hyundai if I am not mistaken is doing that. But you might even get a better deal if you come over the line to NY. I am not sure how far away you are from High Point NJ. Their dealership is only 12 miles from me but we went 18 miles and bought in Orange County NY in Goshen. And the guy I dealt with is fantastic and the manager in the Sales Dept. really cut us a break back in June. I would figure out how much the insurance company is going to give you too. And glad to hear you walked away with no injuries. That is a good thing. I wasn't so fortunate back in 1993. I had a Chevy Corsica and was hit in the driver's side by a drunk driver who put me into a spin and then I went head on into a concrete divider in NJ. I was pointing eastbound over a RTE 3 overpass that if that concrete divider had not been there I would have been flying onto RTE 3 traffic going westbound. My chevy gave me no protection at all. Ended up on crutches for 2 years and 2 operations. And at the time I was only going 20 miles an hour. Go figure. And that is when cars were supposed to be made better. I am very glad your Elantra kept you from not getting hurt.
Re: Is this typical for a volume Hyundai dealer? [jdev12]

Towne Hyundai in NJ is offering $1700 below dealer invoice for the 2008 Elantra GLS, $1000 rebate, "destination included". Should I assume that other volume Hyundai dealers will be offering similar savings and factor this into my target price? I'm shopping for a GLS automatic with the '02 Popular Equipment package' You can get one for $14,000 at Suresky in Goshen, NY. All you have to do is tell them you know someone whose husband and her bought 2 cars from them for that price. They will match anything you see in a newspaper too. And all the fuel pumps are fixed according to Hyundai in the lots for sale. Recall letters are still going out from what I hear, but our fuel pumps were fixed and I haven't seen a letter. I don't know where this dealership in is NJ, but Suresky is a good dealership and they don't jerk you around. :shades:
Re: 16K for Elentra GLS with PE Package? [chinatta]

Where in NY are you buying your Elantra GLS? I bought mine in Goshen, NY. They listed it on my bill of sale as $16,000 and took off $2,000 for rebates. But I did have to pay tax on $16,000. So technically I paid $14,000 plus the tax on $16,000 and DMV fees. And they are a Super watch out for the customer dealership. I also have floor mats too. The only thing I bought was a cargo tray for the back. And that cost me $63 plus tax as if you buy anything from the parts Dept there, they take off 10% for buying the vehicle there. And they are giving me my first oil change free. And they are running a sale in the paper now for $14,992 but you can talk them down to $14,000. We did. And the salesman I used is super great.

There just was not a demand for the Legacy wagon, if they sold them off the walls they would not have killed it. Subaru doesn't sell anything "off the walls" though. Until very recently, Ford sold more F150s a month than Subaru sold Legacys in a year. If you are going to be low volume, you have to be profitable at it. It doesn't worry me too much, I am okay with the Legacy wagon we have now, but as far as strategic business direction, I think they are headed for a pre-Goshen Nissan meltdown. Getting bought by Toyota, the inventor of the automotive appliance, probably won't help.

How far are you from Goshen NY??? Orange County. They are giving the $1,500 rebate and applying it to your down payment. I paid $13995 for my Elantra GLS. 2008. And I had a great salesman. Also the Sales Manager helped lower the price. I had a $2000 rebate when I bought mine and did my financing thru TB BankNorth. I put a chunk of money down. Hubby put down only $1,500 and they applied the $2000 rebate to his down payment too. He paid the same I paid. And he got the cargo mat in the back of the trunk free because we bought 2 cars.
