BMW 2002 -- Acme Auto Wrecking Morris Minor --- Hey Acme can you pick up two at once? Hillman Minx -- maybe worth something in the UK, but not here. Very entry level car, Sunbeam motor. If it were bright and shiny, with a Sunbeam Alpine engine, you might get a bite in the USA---but not like this. Put it in a box, send it over the pond. The Brits treat rust like we treat washing a car. It's second nature to them. 51 NASH -- Somebody might take that on. Doesn't look too, too bad, and there's a $10,000--$12,000 pot 'o gold waiting for you once you do the complete restoration.

It's not only the tread that determines a tires useful life, but the age as well. The recommended maximum "shelf life" for a set of NEW tires is 5 years old, because the rubber compound begins to break down, leading to cracks in the sidewall and within the tread. I personally wouldn't keep tires longer than 5 years, whether they're full of tread or completely bald. This is especially important with winter tires, since it's the compound that assists in deep-snow traction as well as the tread. I'm on my 4th season with my current winter tires (Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2s), and even though I've got over 60% tread left, I can still sense a little more slip, and a reduced traction limit compared to new. I plan on replacing them for next winter. If I were you, for the safety of you, your passengers, and the vehicles around you, I'd recommend retiring those 8-year-old winter tires. I'm sure you've got your $$$$ worth out of them. Plus you'll be surprised at just how much better winter tire technology has improved in that time.

We are definitely in unchartered territory. It looks like there's plenty more downside to come in the stock market. I don't envy BO inheriting this mess. I wish him luck. By the way, Tony, I'm lovin' the 328i. Tomorrow I take the dude out for some aggressive driving. If I come back with anything less than a stern warning, I will be greatly disappointed. If I do get stopped, I may tell the good officer about my General Motors restructuring plan. Sure hope he's got a half hour. ;) PS-I put a photo of my Alpine White 328i (in front of the servants' quarters), on my car space page. I was driving over with their monthly wages. I was wearing very dark sunglasses and a phony big nose, since I value my privacy and wish to keep my identity a secret. If they found out who I am, they may stone me to death one day in front of the local Walmart.
USA GPS to Europe
by fatjack on Wed Nov 12 08:24:08 PST 2008
I bought a 2008 Honda with a Factory installed Navigation for US and Canada. Honda and Alpine have not been of any assistance in trying to obtain a way to get the system to work in Europe. The GPS system is Alpine, using Windows CE and Navteq maps. My friend is having the same problem with his USA Merc using Alpine GPS/ Navteq Map.In the Honda with DVD in I get out of Region error. On his Merc the Nav system start up but is black - when he scrolls out and to the left he can view the USA with distance 4,000 miles. I compared the DVDs - MERC Navteq vs Honda Nateq and there are a few Gigantic Map files that are the same on both DVD. These files have the below extensions. *****.AR0 *****.AR1 *****.AR2 *****.BAS I think if I can find the European version of the Map files in the correct format I can create a new DVD replacing eh USA for European map files. Any comments? If the concept is correct do you know where maps of Europe with the correct file extensions can be purchased or downloaded? Any help comments appreciated - thanks
