Go ahead and put those apple trees on your land and see what happens. Your neighbors will sue you for "visual blight" because you ruined their view of YOUR property. They'll sue you because you spray your trees, because you run your tractor during their garden party, and because they don't want some "dirty farmer" scaring their kids. I have relatives on my mothers side that were farmers in NW Indiana. They slowly sold their farmland until all that was left was the farmhouse (Circa 1910) and the barn on a few acres of land. Well their grandson has the house now and is fully restoring it, the barn and the land to a 1910's era farm. Everything he tries to do on the property his neighbors fight him over. Last time I was there it was over a period fence that he wanted to put in along the road. On a related note my brother in laws family owns a trucking company way south of the city, Its on a small plot of land where they also have their house. They have a large building for truck repairs and an office and a large gravel lot in back. Well with trucks entering and leaving all day long it makes a lot of noise and kicks up a lot of dirt. Well for the first few billion years the neighbors didn't mind it because he was surrounded by nothing but farmland. But over the last 5-10 years the farmland was sold and homes went up and now all their neighbors are complaining about the dirt and noise.

Well, I heard The Who live at Shea Stadium and Bruce at The Boston Garden. That's gotta be pretty close to The Musikverein! Yeah, pretty close... :) Paris is a great city, the subway system can take you pretty much everywhere you need to go with minimal hassle. Paris has the world's best museums, and of course the Moulin Rouge. Until you can make it to Vienna, here's a taste of what its like to be at the Musikverein. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2yPCb66wcs
The good, the bad, the ugly.

High fuel prices worried everyone early this year and 6 to 8 dollar gas was predicted by every talking head you watched on TV. Like everyone else I was more worried by the falling housing market and how high fuel prices would effect everything else I bought. I had more cars than I needed so I sold off all but my GMC 2500 and my old Pontiac 4 banger. I put my mountain home up for sale and moved to the desert where our place is paid for. The good part was my house was priced right and it sold quickly. I didn't make a killing on it but I could pay every thing I owed money on off. Still there was the price of gas. Then someone took offense to my GMC and set it on fire destroying my truck and killing my dog. Not a happy day. Because of the fuel prices I thought about getting something small like and Edge or even a Outback. But I wanted to travel and I wanted to have a travel trailer so I compromised and got a Tahoe. Used but with low miles and because of the fuel prices it was a very good deal. I decided to get a bicycle for doing light errands around town and ended up joining a bicycle club. I am now losing weight and my doctor is happier than he has been in 15 years. I don't use the Tahoe much unless we are taking an trip out of the state so my fuel useage has dropped by maybe 50 to 60 percent. The Pontiac only get about 25 to26 MPG but it only get gas once every three weeks. we now save up for vacations and plan how much we think we will spend and make sure we have the cash in the bank to take the trip. We decide to take another trip to Colorado this October, I am posting from the camp site as I type. We left California paying $3.58 a gallon. Got hit with a higher price in Needles a bit over $4.00. I had budgeted for $4,00 a gallon. Arizona was $3.48. New Mexico was $3.38. And as we got to Pueblo Colorado a Pilot station was selling gas for $2.99. The stock market may be taking a dive but oil is dropping to less than 90 bucks a barrel. I was thrilled. In Colorado Springs gas at a Chevron on Monday was $3.11 and in Canyon City on Tuesday it was $3.07. If this continues I will have spent far less on gas and bought far more in souveneres. I plan on spending the day at the Garden Of the Gods today and who know were we will go tomorrow. So the good news is my vacation and my choices haven't hurt me as much as I thought and I over reacted. The other good news is the prices of some of these little econo boxes should drop. The bad news is I still haven't found a small EV for around town, I have been looking for a used GEM I can get a deal on so I can pay cash. The Ugly news is the economy is a mess and those of us who took time to protect ourselves will have to bail out those who didn't. But that is life and I would still have done pretty much what I did so why complain?

To clarify that long post for the freedom of man are you saying that American consumers have no reason to conserve fuel? There have been several little comercials on TV here patting us on the back for the reduction in fuel consumed by Californians over the last year. I don't know if that is deserved or not but I know my fuel useage has dropped drastically over the last two years even counting my vacations hauling the Trailer. But I have to ask how you on the one hand can be against pick up trucks and SUVs on one hand because they are not fuel efficient and on the other approve of driving just because you can afford the fuel? To be consistent you would have to be just as approving of the Hummer driver mentioned earlier commuting in his vehicle simply because it makes them feel good. After all you said: If we still have a rig with a ICE, and most of us do, I am for driving as much as we can afford to drive and for as long and far as we want. Restricting that idea is bad for business, bad for the economy and bad for our emotional health collectively. But it's an individual thing that varies according to the person, agreed. The environmentalists will never be satisfied, whatever propels our automobiles. You realize that, don't y'all? Thomas Paine couldn't have written a more compelling speech for the car enthusiast than you did for disregarding societies disdane for the unfettered use of the automobile to use as much fuel as you can afford. Using that logic would I be justified in parking my compact car and driving my Tahoe as a daily driver? I can afford the fuel and the Tahoe is a lot more comfortable than the little 4 banger. However I haven't put fuel in the Tahoe since August 19th. I will be in the 4 corner states in October and do plan on visiting places like the Garden of the Gods, Sky City, and Chinle Canyon. Until then I believe I should be more responsible than to use all the fuel I can afford just because I feel like it. Even if I have the freedom to do so.
Baltimore - Williamsburg in a '08 LTZ 6cyl, 6spd
by misha1957 on Sun Oct 05 18:45:58 PDT 2008
In July my wife, 9-year old, and I took a vacation to Bush Gardens in Williamsburg VA with plenty of luggage. The drive from Baltimore was about 200 miles each direction. We have a 2008 Malibu LTZ, 3.6 6cyl, w/ 6 speed auto transmission. On the way there, which included about a 1 hours back-up near Quantico, we averaged just over 29 MPG. On the way back - and I swear to you, I'm not exaggerating - we averaged 32.2 MPG. Must have been a downgrade or tailwind for the majority of the miles. My daily commute is 35 miles each direction, about 80% of it is highway, and I average between about 26.5 MPG week in, week out. With a 50/50 mix of city/hwy, I get about 21-23 MPG routinely. My wife does not get as good of mileage as I do - our driving styles are very different. She averages about 19-21 with a 50/50 mix of city/hwy. Regards, Misha

This is not to pick on CALI, but even environmentally sensitive (some would say wacko) folks can/will/do NOT reforest indigenous trees such as oak, walnut, redwood. We have close to San Francisco, a city aptly named "REDWOOD CITY" . Hopefully most get why it was named REDWOOD CITY. So if "we" can not garden OUR own back yards, why are we getting bent out of shape about the Amazons which are not under OUR jurisdiction/control/purview or whatever you wish to call it. I used an earlier example of (est) 60 M head of Buffalo (Bison) roaming the Great Plains. So called environmentalists are slap happy because we have a (app 6,000) Buffalo (Bison) herd in Yellowstone!!! Trying running a 60 M head herd by the environmentalists!? What do you think they would say? Ah 10,000 to one ratio and I am HELPING!!! ??? :lemon: They will probably tell you this natural phenonmenon is a natural catastrophe!? CALI is blessed with the "west coast". We will not even construct or cause to exist a desalination plant. Do we really expect it to be built in the middle of the north american continent where there is no water or salt? :lemon: Another no brainer is bio diesel from algae. There is MASSIVE potential gals per acre of H20. Additional spin off is the production of algae (so they produce oil and food) is enormous consumption of CO2 with another spin off byproduct: OXYGEN !!! They of course want to limit bio diesel!!??????
