new XS and mudflaps
by y2k_forester on Tue Jan 11 05:05:17 PST 2005
Hi,   I bought a Crystal Gray '05 XS auto a week ago (just slipping in at the end of the "Year End Drive" (and I think the end of the owner loyalty rebates?), trading my '00 S 5 sp. I'm very happy with the new car, just getting used to not having my left foot move for the clutch!!!   I shopped the CR-V again, like I did in '00, but bought a Subaru again. My '00 wasn't perfect, but it felt like a favorite pair of sneakers, and the '05 has a familiar but even better feeling, along with some of the old quirks as well.   Now I'm going to add the accessories that I had with the '00 that I want with the '05. I liked the fact that the S had mudflaps and the rear bumper "cover" (protection) as standard equipment, so I'm going to add those. I am also missing the extra storage of the armrest extension. After that, but later in the spring, I'll add the hitch for the utility trailer, and I think the tweeter kit based on good reviews.   My question is on the flaps. The S had "matte black" (fading to gray) flaps, but now they offer body color matching flaps. How does the paint hold up on the painted flaps? Anyone try the "black" unpainted flaps with an XS? I was noticing the flaps on our 2000 Honda Ody as I left for work today, and they are unpainted black and seem to "work well" with the Canyon Stone Silver Ody.   Any thoughts or comments graciously accepted.   -Joe

Here is an interesting incident reported in Automotive News. The facts of this case should be easily checked and substantiated. Did all this this really happen or is it made up? Does anyone know if there is online access to arbitration records? The case involves: 1 - owner's name is provided - Robin Burpee's 2000 Sienna XLE breaks down on highway and is towed to dealer 2 - Dealership is identified, Sunshine Toyota Inc. of Battle Creek, MI. 3- Case goes to arbitration on recommendation of independent master technician. 4- Toyota settles before case reaches arbitration, and pays for new engine. "Similarly, Robin Burpee, a 38-year-old homemaker in Mendon, Mich., says she was refused warranty coverage for sludge damage even after showing her dealership, Sunshine Toyota Inc. of Battle Creek, receipts for regular oil changes. Her leased 2000 Sienna XLE broke down on the highway in November and had to be towed. " "After filing for arbitration under recommendation from an independent master technician, Toyota in late January agreed to pay for Burpee's engine repairs but refused to pay for alternate transportation, costs for hiring an independent technician and other incidental costs associated with the repair. I bought my Liberty thru Fino Chrysler in Mendon, Ma. Got for $500 over invoice. Not very generous for my trade but it was the best offer. Went to many other dealers in area also. Ordered it only becuz Libertys on the lots were loaded or mostly Sport edition. So I wanted to get the equip. I needed. Never ordered a car before sure takes a long time. My husband says by the time it comes in I could pay cash! LOL

my dealer suggested the 4.10 rear end, but also said the 3.73 would be alright. The towing I do is mainly in the summer 5 or 6 trips. I live in upstate NY and we do have hills and mountains. My salesman said with the 3.73 it would be lacking for power a little bit on the hills, but not bad. I was concerned with gas mileage at the time. The main use will be back and forth to work. My f-150 with a 302 pulled the camper up Mendon mountain in Vermont, not easily but it did it. I am hopeing my new truck will do the job much better. Is there anyone else out there with the same setup.
