Amen, Fintail: I love cars. I have always loved cars. I love cars more than money. Therefore, I treat myself to nice cars. Not over the top supercars, just nice ones. Like my Lexus LS460. I don't consider that an extravagent car, when lots of folks spend much more than what it cost me for their tricked out 4 wheel drive F-350 Crew Cab, Powerstroke Diesel, Lariat, Amarillo edition truck. And they're everywhere in the west here. So I don't feel too badly. Doing so has never caused me to give up anything necessary, or even some things optional, so again, I don't feel too badly about it. My wife does not care what she drives, will only drive Fords, and so has had Explorers since 1994. In fact, she refuses to drive a luxury car of any sort, even a Lincoln. So I don't drive more than I can afford, but some would say I have wasted a fortune since 1990, driving unnecessary luxury cars. But, when I'm lying in a bed at the hospital dying, I'm sure I wouldn't be saying, "gee, I'm sure glad I drove a Focus all these years instead of a Lexus....it was sure worth it:! Funny, nobody ever criticizes a $72,000 pickup truck.... ;)
When visiting some smaller cities in Texas (Longview, Amarillo) and where I live now (Wichita Falls) there's plenty of old cop cars and Grand Marquises, but for some reason I always end up with a Sonata when I catch a cab. Can't complain at all. I think the Sonata makes a great cab, it's easy enough to get in and out of, it gets great mileage, it's pretty darn reliable, parts aren't expensive, and they're cheap used. I do think the Azera is appointed too nicely for a cab. The 3.8L engine certainly won't get the gas mileage of the 2.4L or 3.0L Sonatas, although it may be close with the 3.3L of this last generation (06+). Also, they are more expensive. But they're bigger and probably built even more solidly. If I had to start a cab company right now, I would probably buy several used 06-07 Sonata 4-cylinders and a couple of 06-07 Grand Caravans for about $6000 each and go from there. Run them out to 200-250K or so, sell them as basic transportation for $2000 or so, then buy more 4-5 year old cars/vans.

I have the same problem with my 08 Nissan Altima. My car is now with my 4th dealership in the state of Texas attempting to get it fixed. In September I took my car to Houston where I lived complainiing of the excess winding noise upon acceleration, I asked them to do a diagnostic which they failed to do but still charged me for. They said it was my Heat Shield making the noise.. paid for it to be replaced however all they did was bend it back to normal. i went yet again in october complaining of the same noise again asking them to run a diagnostic and yet nothing. I am in the military and explained that i would be transferring to the West Coast and had to drive me and my family there, paid for other things that were "wrong" and yet in October 200 miles north of Houston, the winding became obnoxiously loud and low and behold my service engine light came on. I had to then drop of my car in Dallas to the Nissan Dealership there where they ran the diagnostic and stated my CVT needed to be replaced. That was at a little over 81K miles. I had to leave my car there and come get it after it was fixed. Mind you i had to stay an extra 7 days in Texas to await my car, only for them to tell me that it would be another 2 weeks. I then took the rental car and left to the west coast. 2 days later the service manager called and said that my car was ready. So much for 2 weeks. I then got all my household goods and drove back to Texas to pick up my car only to find out 7 months later on a road trip from Tulsa, OK this past June that the winding noise had returned and so did the check engine light. When I stopped at the closest dealership in Elk City, OK the service tech then found that my CVT was not properly installed and was missing bolts. I then had to drive my car to Amarillo to the dealership there. Explaining everything that was going on and asking them to run a diagnostic, they claimed they found 3 bolts not installed and they said it was good to go. This is after one of their technicians not only failed to run a diagnostic he also failed to look at the vehicle period. He stated it was fine. They then actually looked under the hood and lifted the vehicle. In the meantime they were so kind to let me use their courtesy vehgicle to get back to Nevada, then since it was "fixed" I then again had to drive back to Texas to get my car. Low and Behold on the way back from Texas 250 miles from Amarillo the winding noise was back and so was the service engine light. I had to take my car again to the closest dealership on 4th of July, which happened to be the only dealer open.. Wichita Falls Nissan. The service center was closed however the sales department stayed open until I arrived. I had to pay for a one way rental on my own dime which was an extra 600.00, then had extra expenses for hotels as this deleayed my trip back to Nevada. my car is now at this dealership and the service manageer informed me yet again I need to replace my CVT transmission. he was able to pull the codes unlike Amarillo who just cant give me a reason why they couldnt other than I know they didnt even do the test. he stated that this was not mechanical error, this was caused by human error. The CVT wasnt even installed correctly. So i have not only posted on every website that I could, I have consumer affairs who has not been very helpful in reimbursment or ANYTHING for that matter other than they are really sorry this has happened. I have contacted the Better Buisness complaint department as well as a lawyer to sue the two dealerships as well as Nissan for all the hardship this has caused me and my family. THIS IS MAINTENANCE MALPRACTICE. Nissan is Nissan and if this many people are having issues with the CVT then they need to recall the vehicles that have the CVT.
