Mexican movies

Presently there is a nice little troupe of Mexican filmakers, IMO: Alfonso Arau (Como Agua Para Chocolate—Like [boiling] Water for Chocolate, 1992 [Ariel Award for Best Film, 1993). Alfonso Cuarón (Y tu mamá también—literally "And Your Mom, Too", released in English-speaking markets under the original Spanish title [New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Language Film, 2001]). Guillermo del Toro (The Devil's Backbone, 2001; Pan's Labyrinth, 2006 [Spanish Academy Goya Award, Cannes Award, both for Best Film), and others. … To Hudson and Steve: I also liked very much Como Agua Para Chocolate. The novel is very good as well. As it is Cinema Paradiso . Regards, Jose

"I believe Americans will always strive to dream more than many of those same countries you have mentioned." If your only dreams are getting a bigger car, bigger house and just more of everything that's pretty sad. There are other places to put your money than just bigger. And McDonalds sells billions of hamburgers but that doesn't mean they're good for you. There are a lot of factors affecting the total number of cars sold per year. Just because a car isn't in the top 10 of sales doesn't mean it's an inferior car. There are millions of people doing stupid things all the time (buying homes they can't afford, smoking, drinking too much, buying junk food for their kids, etc) and it's the same with cars. I think one of the main reasons subcompacts won't be big sellers in this country is because of the number of overweight people who will say that the average American is too big for something like the Fit, which is probably correct. I mean, how much space does someone's back-side need to spread out for them to be comfortable. Personally, if it's going to help our air quality and reduce the amount of oil that we need, I'd rather mandate more efficient and less polluting vehicles. I'm not as concerned about size but the laws of physics mean that a smaller and lighter vehicle won't require as much power to keep it moving and if some overweight Americans are "stuck" with paying more to find a car that will fit them, then there's more incentive for them to get healthy. We have thousands of soldiers dying everyday because we need middle east oil. Yes, there's a lot of other reasons behind the "war," but the foundation to it all is our need for oil. If we didn't need the oil, then we wouldn't be there. So I would consider it a small sacrifice to buy a smaller and more efficient vehicle knowing that in some small part I was saving lives by lessening our need to have troups in harms way. And if someone's reply to that is that, "my buying a small car wouldn't make a difference," than go bury your head back into the sand and keep letting others sacrifice so you can do whatever you want. Just trying to stir some thinking. People's actions affect the world around them.

"They're trying to prevent kids and young people from liking cars, as if it worked exactly the same as cigarette ads (which it sorta does)." Remember the episode where Stan and the gang are forced to watch the lame troupe of dancers/rappers called "Butt Out?" The dancers tell them if they don't smoke, the kids could grow up to be just like them! Then Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny are behind the school chain-smoking a carton of cigarettes. Later on they encounter a sweaty, asthmatic, morbidly obese Rob Reiner. He's lecturing everybody about the evils of second-hand smoke while scarfing down one Big Mac after another.
2004 Santa Fe Paint Problem
by dmccarthy on Wed May 11 06:42:52 PDT 2005
We have a 2004 Santa Fe. Love the vehicle except for paint issues. The vehicle is Merlot (I call it Marroon in color). When we put the magnetic stickers on the rear "We support our troups" or "Breast Cancer Awareness" it fades the paint? Doesn't do it on any other vehicle I own or from co-workers vehicles.

Exactly! Functional design dictates that to accomplish a particular mission, the design should be optimized to satisfy the objectives of that mission. If I'm hauling tanks, Hummers and troops, the C-5 is a better functional design than a 747, although the 747 may have better "performance" characteristics. Same thing with autos... if carrying 7 is your objective, plenty of folks would love to put you in a minivan. Unfortunately, functional design does not translate into the "cool" factor craved by today's buyers. Until the new R and G-Class vehicles hit the streets, MB may not be your best alternative for hauling the troup. Fantastic choice, however, for that family of four!

Here at work it's 98% PC, 2% Mac. Funny thing is, all the high-end stuff, like graphic workstations, web servers, etc., are Macs. We have that video program and filmed last year's Halloween, where we were a French Canadian film troupe. Of course it was edited on a Mac. My referee idea was overruled. I'll share some pics, we're still working on our concept, but it involves ambulance-chasing lawyers. ;-) -juice
