Voice Recognition does not by impatient on Sun May 25 12:09:54 PDT 2008

Cadillac says they are perplexed. My voice recognition system on the 2008 STS rarely recognizes my voice. When I give it a proper command proper meaning its listed in the very-hard-to-understand manual, the system says "Pardon," I repeat the command and it says Pardon after repeating the same command again it says, "Command not recognized". Entering a voice tag is even more stressful. If I am lucky enough to get the car to recognize when I say "Phone dial name" and it says Name Please" I then say Bernies Cell and the system will respond Mary's Home, is this correct? I then say no and the system says Command not recognized. I have a friend who is the local Ford Dealer. He teases me that a $18,000 Ford has a great VR system, while I paid over $50k for the Cadillac and the VR does not.

It's a small world! by mtngal on Mon May 15 19:24:20 PDT 2006

It's been been almost 20 years since I lived in Copperas Cove (can you guess where I worked?!) - I'm sure I wouldn't recognize the area at all. I really loved Texas - probably would have stayed but the economy wasn't great there back in the '80s. It really is a small world, isn't it? I'm sure my Fit would eat up all those miles out in the middle of no-where. I also think I would have had a much harder time keeping my foot off of the accelerator... Thanks for the information about ethanol - I'm glad that California hasn't gone that route.

Re: Stiff power sliding door - 2001 Grand Caravan [eric6] by rmax on Tue Jan 17 08:13:06 PST 2006

Thanks for the warning. On my '01 Grand Caravan, neither door opens/closes by pushing the button and the passenger door is a lot of work to open manually. To top it off, the liftgate unlocks, then locks before it has a chance to open. You can find great deals on these vans but I'm wishing I would have held out for a Toyota Sienna. :(

Neat - another Unlimited driver with a long commute! I was beginning to think I was the only one crazy enough to live a very long way from work. I never quite got down to Big Bend National Park when I lived in the Copperas Cove/Killeen area, but I've always wanted to (pre-Wrangler days, so didn't have as much incentive to travel). Oh well, guess I'll just have to "suffer" with the occasional trips to Yosemite and the Sierras. I figure if I still love driving it to work after 2 months, I'll love it forever. 5 more weeks to go...

tsjay - Now don't say that's your one and only Jeep. My noble black steed is NOT going to be my last Jeep and our ages aren't all that different. If I could only win the lottery I'd get a Rubicon to go with my Sport, then I would have one for everything! With that kind of income I wouldn't worry about the gas mileage! oceantoad - glad you are still around. Hope Texas is treating you well. I got to ride a friend's new pony today and it brought back so many happy memories of Copperas Cove and the horses I had there. Deb - Glad to see you are still hanging in there - that Jeep will come when it is supposed to. Just don't wait until you are as close to 50 as I am to get yours! And to everyone one else who is digging out (anon?) - go have fun with your Jeeps in the snow. We'll be taking the Jeep to the beach this week for a few days. I know there is a place close to where we'll be staying that lets you drive on the beach. Maybe I'll have a new experience - snow one day and sand a couple of days later. We'll see...
