Re: Replacing RFTs [idoc2]
by pearl on Wed Aug 26 15:33:00 PDT 2009
My 2007 328 came with Bridgestone EL42 RFTs. They were very loud after a few thousand miles and at 8K miles the dealer relplaced them with Conti RFTs. MUCH better overall, but I had two flats with them, neither of which could be repaired. At 42K, I dumped the RFTs for new Michelin Pilot Exaltos and I bought a Conti Comfort Kit (pump and tire goop) for emergencies. I have about 2K on the Michies and they are quieter and handle better than either the Bridgestones or Contis. As for "consensus", I don't think you will get it either here or on any of the BMW boards (Bimmerfest, etc). Everyone has an opinion. I suggest you go to Tire Rack and read all of their comparisons and make your choice yourself.

as millions of "Michies" come from the Midwest in a Steinbeck-esque migration to the promised land of Cali. They better bring some of their big stash of cash from years of high paying UAW jobs. CA is not friendly to people without money. Unless you are illegal. Then we give you the farm. Best bet is get an old Winnebago and move from one Walmart to the next. Thousands have found you can live for next to nothing that way. Better yet get a a job as a Walmart greeter and live out in the parking lot. They will not find the high paying jobs in CA they lost in Michigan. Unless they are college educated and part of the progressive society that controls this state. Santa Barbara is a good place to head for. They have parking lots set up to handle the homeless living in their vehicles.

Ain't gonna happen. EVs are too fierociously expensive for what you get, be it a Volt or a Prius. At least the Volt looks like a real car compared to the Prius. At least Honda got it right with their Civic hybrid. As for California, it may soon be filled with domestic cars as millions of "Michies" come from the Midwest in a Steinbeck-esque migration to the promised land of Cali.
Re: current MT - camry SE vs Accord EX-L [louiswei]

I am noticing a bit of tire squeal with my Michelin's on the Accord SE V6. When it comes to time to replace the tires, I may opt for less mileage and more grip, say something like a Yokohama or Kumho tire. Seems to me they are really favorably rated at the TireRack, yet low priced. Can not recall the rating professionals tests and consumer surveys on my standard tires, but I think they did OK. In interesting how you can get all season brand X tires which seem to do better than the expensive brands. That said, that too can be hype. One of those things you just have to test yourself. The Michi's should get me plenty of miles, and I would say seem to stick pretty good, though recently after 7K miles, they sure seem to squeal with more ease. Come rain season should be a good test. These tests done on new cars with stability control surely put the limits on those lateral g tests, don't they? And the slalom testing? I still call the Accord a sports sedan like ride, though I realize it can be taken wrong. Of course it is not a Bimmer, but compared to the slow, boat like handling, some of us old timer lived with, this nice cornering, with some good feedback to steering, without that one finger lightness, is so welcomed, I call it sports sedan like. And I am sure an Accord can be pushed through the corners, FWD - heavy nose and all, much quicker than most of the sports cars and muscle cars of days gone bye. I would not push my old pony, the 289 Mustang around a turn as fast as an Accord, or Camry, for that matter. And today's CTS vs, some old Caddy, is like night and day. Of course, there is more to life where it comes to cars, and we must honor the greatness of the old cruisers, or is that luxo liners, the wonderful ships they were. L
Re: BMW RUN FLAT ISSUE - Pirelli PZero M&S RFT any better? [aitm908]

Dear George, I too have the 2006 330xi and love it. I really like the conti ssr's so far but I assume the michi's would be great also. I do notice I need to maintain inflation pressure about every three weeks with the old tires and will keep tabs on the conti's. If pressure runs low, beware the shoulder ware! Take a look at the utqg standard. The conti's are 400 treadwear so assume 7,200 mile test x 4 = 28,800 miles for the conti's. Hope this helps. Regards, OW

Whoa, 2 sets? What kind of car is that on, or how many miles do you drive a year? My Dunlops went about 45k before being dust, which given their peformance and how they were driven was fine. The MXV4s (with ~50k)on the other car are gong to be replaced with Kuhmo AGXs ($120/tire for the Michies vs ~$40/tire for the Kuhmos).
