Antioch, TN Car Consumer Discussions

I think I have same problems. I got a message from Kia in Korea
by bestman0627 on Mon Aug 11 21:12:44 PDT 2008
I live in Nashville & from Korea. After I bought 2002 Kia sedona turn on Check engine light. I want to fix for registeration in Nashvill TN. I visited KIA dealer shop in Antioch. I spent 2800$ for changing coils, wires, catalitic converters, timing belt...etc if include the other fix prices? more than 3500$, but they could not fix. And also the computer message was different every time when they check. Finally they said "Actually I don't know why" I'm Korean. So I asked to KIA Factory in Korea about this problems directly. After a few days, I got a message from Califonia Kia Factory's someone who he got my message from South Korea. He said "We know this problems but we can not tell you now yet. If we do not offer this problems to each dealer shops, they can not fix it, Even though they can fix it, in KIA dealer shops they can change only whole parts. This is law" So Haow are ridiculous! They should not have changed it if they don't know that. If you have a check engine or electronic problems on doubt, Please do not fix it. KIA Eat Your Money like your Blood! Nobody know right now before announce a statement about this problems from KIA

mako1a, I suspect the system will change in time but until that happens, CarsDirect and other buying services do afford folks an alternative. However, even with those, you still can't help but wondering..."Did I get a good deal?" It's human nature and all part of the buyer's remorse process. OK, by way of update, I took delivery of my new Highlander. Two retired gentlemen arrived to deliver the car. They completed the paperwork, handed over the keys and manuals, took my check and departed. But the amount I was charged was NOT what CarsDirect had told me! It was less! OK, only by $23 but I'll take it. And those are the kind of surprises that you'd like to have when making a big purchase. Two things bothered me but probably aren't a big deal. First, the car had 276 miles on it. Now 100 of that was driving it up from Antioch Toyota. But I had to wonder whether this had been a demo. I asked the delivery team and they told me that it was probably driven in from another dealer. In any case, the warranty was written to start at 286 miles. The second concern was that there was no sticker on the car, nor did they supply me with one. I have nothing that proves that I have all of the items I ordered, short of looking for evidence of them on the car itself. For instance, the car came with a tow prep package that I didn't necessarily want but what the heck is that and what should I look for to tell whether it's on the car? Guess I'll have to pour over the manual. Other than that, I got the car that I wanted and I estimate that I paid perhaps $400 over invoice. That's probably not a bad price but clearly not record-setting low, given that we're late in the model year and in the midst of a recession. All in all, it was a reasonably good experience and I learned a lot, much of it from all the seasoned pros responding to my snide remarks about dealer sales techniques. Thanks for being patient, guys. ;) One last story. I had debated whether to await the redesign on the Honda Pilot before buying my Highlander, thinking that an 8-passenger SUV might come in handy on occasion. But then someone said the expected May release had been pushed out to September so I went ahead with my HL purchase. When I picked up the newspaper today, it was stuffed in a plastic bag with an ad announcing the new 2009 Pilot was now on sale. But I stifled my buyer's remorse and went ahead with my purchase. I think I'm gonna like it just fine.
Re: 2008 Highlander Sport AWD - Bay Area SF price [rav5]

I'm taking delivery tomorrow on a Limited AWD with: HD heated seats PB power liftgate QR rear a/c RF rear spoiler SR moonroof TO tow prep package CT Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set/3rd Row Mat I'm in the Sacramento area but bought through CarsDirect.com and am taking delivery from Antioch Toyota (delivered to my house). CarsDirect's website calculates the MSRP on this car at $38,635 and I'm paying $33,584 after $750 rebate and $36,471 OTD. I know that's not apples-to-apples but it may give you some comparison. I got prices from Costco's Auto Program ($1,200 higher) and from the Edmunds Premier Dealer ($2,200 higher). My local dealer told me that they couldn't get me a Limited without NAV, which I didn't want, and they won't trade with other dealers. By contrast, CarsDirect was a delight and I got my car in three days. It's the third car I've bought through them and I just find it soooo simple.
Re: Metallic Jade/Blond leather, Tech, moonroof [redwood2]

Thanks, Redwood2. Did your new car include moonroof in the price? Also did you approach the 7 different dealers by internet or telephone? I will definitely check out Bay Bridge in Oakland (and the one touted in Petaluma). I have relatives in Antioch, Berkeley, Petaluma, Sacramento and Fresno, so would appreciate any other leads to help me decide which city I will fly into. I can't go until mid-April and noticed the Nissan rebate is supposed to expire the end of March. I noticed earlier postings in 2007 said they kept extending them. Can I trust that will continue for 2008's?

Everyone wants to live in beautiful, sunny California (my wife was born there and she's not ready to move back "home" yet. :P ). My mom lived out near Stockton/Antioch. Unfortunately all the relatives scattered to the four corners so we don't have anyone to freeload on now when we go to San Diego or the Sierra. So demand plays a part in house value. But my point was that building materials have gone way up in price too (not to mention the infrastructure costs of getting water and sewer to new subdivisions), and that factors into home prices too.
