Re: Overheating problem [drowningcreek]

I just towed a 4500 pound camper from Nashville to Cookeville, TN which includes a grade from Silver Point to Cookeville. I have found that I cannot use the cruise control for towing. The cruise control downshifts too much in order to maintain the set speed on the hill climbs. I feather the throttle with my foot to maintain 1800-2100 RPM and avoid the downshifting. This has pretty much kept the thermometer needle off the red "H". For the early morning drive up the hill, the needle stayed on center. Returning home between 10:00 and noon, however saw some elevated temperatures on the gentle slopes. I guess the ambient air temperature was driving that indicator. By the way, I pretty much stayed on the speed limit of 70 MPH except for the hill climb, and I maintained an average fuel economy of 16 MPG for the round trip of 170 miles. My average fuel economy for the past month without the camper in tow had been declining from 20 through 19 to 18 MPG. I got another new EGR valve and throttle plate yesterday. This makes number seven. The service manager offered to change it out before the check enging lignt came on since I had been having so much trouble and since he believes that this is a redesigned throttle plate with a different part number from the last throttle plate that was installed. We will see how it does with the next tank of fuel in the next week or so.

New owner of a '04 C70 - really enjoying it so far. One slight problem that I thought someone might have figured out - any add-on equipment or ingenuity on how to hang clothes. Getting to and from the dry cleaners is a small problem. Longer business trip where I would have traditionally hung clothes instead of packing is a bigger problem. Any ideas?

Travis: Yes, Cookeville is not too far from Knoxville. Makes me feel better that your experience shows the gas mileage does improve. By the way, did anyone read the information in the Honda website that they recommend High Detergent Gas rather than the el-cheapo gas places that have the lowest detergent gas to save cost. I've always gassed up at the el-cheapo's but now look for the High Detergent Gas places. Butterfly: Yes, my driving was mostly short trips, nothing over 20 miles each way. That is discouraging that the EPA numbers are not valid. I mainly bought this vehicle to get the higher mileage. Regarding the LUG BUG. I have no idea what that is, and need someone to give a description of what it sounds like in the transmission area and any other information, to catch it before it does any serious damage. I haven't heard any rattles and squeaks as yet... the car is too new. I have experimented with the A/C and it works beautifully. Thanks for the nice remarks. I will post my mileage occasionally and I do hope I get better mileage. Our gas at present 19 March is now $2.35 a gallon... outrageous! Bye. Francey

Have just had the computer replaced in my 2002 Prius. This was under warranty, however the mechanic said that I had to also replace the fuel tank and a relay. This will cost over $500.00. My service provider said that this was a problem with the 02 and 03 Prius. the first problem occurred when the Prius died on the road and had to be towed to a garage. All sorts of warning lights came on. five weeks later the same warning lights came on and we were told that the problem was the fuel tank. Has anyone else had this experience? I think that the company should cover both solutions. BCR
