Re: When Bankruptcy is necessary, not bailouts. [steve_]

NO BAILOUTS FOR ANY FAILURE. There are 100's of insurance companies out there to pick up the pieces of AIG after bankruptcy saves the taxpayers from bailing it out. Same is true for the banking industry. Let the financial buzards who can still fly get a good buy. If pension benefits stop for the UAW, it wouldn't be the first time in manufacturing history. Remember Alcoa and the aluminum workers of Reynolds?

The economy has been down EVERYWHERE, why are you trying to make it seem like the midwest is in a deep struggle. I know people in the Quad Cities who are doing fine. A lot of farmers, deere and alcoa employees in that area. I don't know a single person who's lost a job, and all the farmers i know are making a ton of money right now....they're family owned farms, not big businesses. I guess for me the glass is always half full, and for you its half empty. We can both agree things are down, but its not as bad as you claim.

The county we are in the kids go to school for 9 weeks and then get 2 weeks off. Sounds like Alcoa. They are the only one in my area doing this. Back on topic... The Alcoa motor mile has lots of cars sitting on the lots. My wife has a friend whos husband sells there. He had only moved 4 last month. He is a veteran and had never seen a slower month. Hopefully this month is better for them.
Chances dim for climate-change legislation
by gagrice on Sat May 31 12:01:58 PDT 2008
NEW YORK (Fortune) -- An influential coalition of Fortune 500 companies and environmental groups that was formed to support climate-change legislation has splintered over the Lieberman-Warner bill that is headed next week to the Senate floor. The U.S. Climate Action Partnership formed last year won't take a position on the bill, although nine of its members - including General Electric (GE, Fortune 500), Alcoa (AA, Fortune 500) and four utility companies - signed a letter to senators backing the legislation. The letter, also signed by big environmental groups and obtained by Fortune, says: "Prompt action on climate change is essential to protect America's economy, security, quality of life and natural environment." But other members of the coalition known as U.S. Cap, most visibly Duke Energy (DUK, Fortune 500), a coal-burning utility, are strongly opposed. "It's going to translate into significant electricity price increases," says Jim Rogers, Duke's CEO. Without widespread corporate support, passage of the bill - already a long shot at best - becomes even more unlikely this year. President Bush remains opposed. House Democrats have been slow to act. We can thank our lucky stars that a few people have their heads screwed on right. This bill would have started the ball rolling on carbon credit taxes and much higher fuel and utility bills.
Large to small block,'87 to '78 CK questions
by 1woodwrking on Tue Feb 05 11:33:44 PST 2008
Hello. New Here. Gary's the name. My Pleasure. I have a beautiful red and white stock 78 CHeyenne CK Camper spcl ww/ 3504blt &350Trans I found on ebay motors w/ 530 original miles when I bought it in Sept. Yea- I know. huh?! It is amazing for its age right down to the brand new bias plys. I also have a *very fast* 78 Silverado single cab rblt 454(30K) dually camper spl that since moving it to the coast has become a rusty mess but the previous owner spent major some huge money on.. alcoas, step railing w lights, cab top lights, tailgate lights, Jacobs ign. electronics, Gear Vendors overdrive, put in a beaut '93 cloth split seat, all extra gauges, trans cooler, custom grill, class III hitch.. you name it. There are many interchangeable things I will put on the 78 but I have some questions about the ignition system. <><>>As the 87 is fuel inj and has electronic (first yr?) distributor, will the Jacobs system come across? I know that it would if it was electronic ignition on both. But it is not. Can I pic a brain or two here ? Thank you. <><><Also will the gear vendor overdrive come over with out major expense? Wheel base and motor size questions come to mind. Overall wanting to decide whether to just put this up on ebaymotors. Would be a haul for the price it will fetch due to the body rust. Apprec. any help Gary
Confused about Wheels
by sirraf on Sat Dec 15 13:36:15 PST 2007
I've noticed that the Limited has at least four different types of 20" wheels depending on which zip code (27617 or 72901) you access. There is the Alloy ($920), Carved Alloy ($2474), Alcoa ($2849), and the BBS ($2495). Does anyone know where there is a picture of these wheels? There are now two spoilers the "Rear Aerodynamic" ($449) and the just plain "Rear Spoiler" ($100), is there a picture of these anywhere? And is the Stone Leather interior gray or tan or some other color?
