Re: Thinking of buying a 2007 Altima S [elmoblatch2]
by fundukis on Sat Jul 07 10:47:04 PDT 2007
Hello everybody. It is already two weeks as my wife drives her Altima 2007 2.5S with: CVT, SL package, ABS brakes, , splash guards, and floor/trunk mats and she loves it. First of all big thank to zink88, whose detailed report opened my eyes on many different things. It was my “bible”. My target was OTD price of $25,000/$25,100, which I thought was a fair price to pay. I came to this price after doing some research and negotiations. I used the same strategy as zink88 with the difference that I used Edmunds.com to e-mail my requests to the dealers around NYC. My price was matched by Pine Belt Nissan of Keyport in NJ. I had two better offers but the guys over there sounded too pushy and did not have my color in their inventory. My break down is as follows: Price of the car: $22,361 with the above mentioned options. Destination charge: $625 Taxes on both: $1925.08 (NYC tax 8.375%). Doc fee: $95 Registration fee: $100 Total OTD price: $25,106.08 Could it be better? May be, but I am happy with this price and the conditions. My credit allowed me to finance the whole price of the car with 0.7% for 36 months. This financing cost me only $271.76 in interest charges over the 3-year life of the loan. Monthly payment: $704.94. Luckily I have those $25,106.08. I already put it in a separate account (with automatic monthly withdrawals) which gives me now 5.05%. The interest should cover those $271.76 plus give me some profit, which if deducted from the price will give me true cost of the car at the end of the third year. A bit of negative stuff. Visited Bay Ridge Nissan in Brooklyn. Signed a contract with them, and at the last moment they wanted more money over the contracted price. Refused to pay, tore the contract and left. Same stuff with Nissan of Staten Island. They also wanted more money over the contracted price. I refused to pay and they refused to return my deposit ($500). I absolutely did not have any doubts that my credit card company will get my money back. And they did it in just two weeks. These TWO employ very bad and deceptive practices. If possible stay away from those crooks. Summary: Get quotes from many dealerships. Read carefully their responses. It is easy to distinguish between serious and BS offers/responses. Try not to leave any deposit. If they insist on a deposit, pay with a credit card. Know your credit history in advance to exclude any surprises. I had very pleasant experience with the guys from Pine Belt. I came to Pine Belt only once. Everything was negotiated via e-mail and I made couple of phone calls on the day I picked up the car. It was only one unexpected turn. The car they showed to me had 110 miles and one of the compartment lids was broken. I did not like this. No problem – they brought another car (same color) with 7 miles on odometer and of course everything worked fine. I would suggest you call in advance and ask about mileage and the rest.

"You need to remember that west coast Audis are shipped to SD and truck..." Gee, I don't remember there being an ocean terminal anywhere in South Dakota, maybe it's hiding in the Badlands or maybe over on the Pine Ridge reservation. ;-) Best Regards, Shipo
05 XT not liking the cold in the Blue Ridge Mnts
by girlwhogolfs on Fri Nov 18 00:53:03 PST 2005
It is starting to get "cold" here in VA. High 20's to low 30's in the valley. Well when I first start my car and take off down the road, as the car shifts, (AT model) it lurches like I am stepping on the brake as it shifts! From first to second is VERY bad. It does this for about a mile. WHATS' THE DEAL WITH THAT!!!! Does my car hate cold weather as much as me? I have only put premium gas in it, only have 4900 miles and owned 8 months. We had a blast through summer, no hesitation, nothing but fast. Also, is there any type of screen accessory for the "snout" to keep stuff out? I had a bunch of leaves and pine needles on top of my intake I had to clean off. It won't fit in my garage  . Heated seats, nice on the buns! Thanks for your help!
isn't the XT a great car for the mountains!!

Few purchases have given me as much satisfaction as the FXT! It would have been hard to imagine a single vehicle that you could have complete confidence in as you pull out and blow past a line of tractor trailers lumbering up the Blue Ridge escarpment on NC 226 from Marion to Spruce Pine, where you have approx 300 yards of a second lane to complete your pass, and have the same complete confidence to come down that steep, snaking road with 3 inches of snow-slush-ice a/k/a "wintry mix" on the pavement ,kids sleeping in the back after a day of snowboarding and skiing in Banner Elk, and all their gear stowed easily in the back! Yes - I'm not far from you. I work in West LA so I have an extreme commute, but it is worth it to look out on a pine (and occasionally snow) covered ridge, take 5 minutes to get to a trailhead for hiking on Saturday morning and less than that to hit my first dirt road. If you are going to be spending much time up in the mountains then definitely get the 4WD. It is so much nicer to not have to stop and put chains on and the extra traction comes in handy. And you won't be frustrated by not getting the moonroof.
we really should move this to the subaru crew board, but

patrick is right...the roads between him and spruce pine are very interesting, NC 221, US 19E or, esp, the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is one of the most beautiful roads in America..except in snow...narrow lanes, no guard rails and a loooooong way down if you lose it! and the A6 Q is great for the first 4 inches of snow, then it bottoms out...maybe it never accumulates that much in Ingolstadt?
