Re: I was hired !!! [tlong]

Second, do you know if the jobs bank is still in existence? Just curious. http://www.uaw.org/contracts/07/gm/gm11.php First, congrats on the almost-hire, and continued good luck on finding the right position. Thanks.....My interview went very well for the Saturn Job and I'm optomistic enough to believe I will be hired. I'm suppose to call my would be boss next tuesday. I feel my experience and knowledge will be a asset to the dealership and I like the atmosphere !!! I also want to remind everyone those UAW workers average pay with benefits is much closer to Toyota (within' a couple of dollars) per hour than before. The pay per hour was never $78 an/hr. It was somewhere between $60-65 an hour as Steve Miller, of Delphi was correct in saying !!! The Toyota, workers are 401K only and the only reason why it cost GM, so much money was because they (GM) were behind on their pension fund obligations but made up for it by successfully risking money in the stock-market and pulling out before the collapse. The pension obligations aren't the problem but the VEBA, they agreed too is....I understand some of ya'll are talking about Circuit City, etc but those folks were selling mostly stuff made out of the country and their employees don't make much money to begin with. As the UAW, said they can reward the tax payers by closing plants in Mexico, and building or keeping open american ones. Sure the employees aren't going to make much money but hey they are $14-16 an/hr. jobs and the money will stay here in the U.S. ;) ;) ;) -Rocky
I was hired !!!

I however didn't take the job because it was sales gig and you had to work your way into management. They give you the title of entry level manager but you are doing 100% commission sales selling DirecTv. my would be boss as I'd be on his team (lemko, another Amway pyramid type scheme) is a very knowledgable person regarding DirecTv. He was a nice guy but not the type of person I could respect because he has like 7 kids two of which he pays zero child support on and they and his current kids are living off of the state !!! His wife had a misscarriage a few weeks ago and all I could think about was dude, what the heck are you thinking ??? Go get snipped or or she needs to get tied !!! :confuse: I as some of ya know did this line of work and have knowledge in the cable and satellite field. I would be working 70-80 hours a week in stores my would be company has contacts with i.e. Circuit City, Walley World, Sams, etc.....One had to sell 10 contacts consistently for X number of weeks to prove you were good enough to be a manager. In my interview I was told I'd be training for 4-6 months and my trainer/would be boss said I'd get a few days training and would be cut lose. This outfit is legit but the problem is that my would be boss whom is a good salesman and use to install DirecTv, back in the day well didn't sign up one person in 8 hours. Sure traffic at the circuit city we were working at was slow but he spoke with enough people to sell something. The problem is DirecTv, isn't competitive enough for people who aren't worried about HD service. For the same price one can get internet and phone for a few bucks more from AT&T or Comcast. yeah, they've improved the satelitte technolgy quite a bit thus the weather doesn't effect it like it once did but peoples perception like GM, is distorted !!!! I was bored out of my mind and couldn't picture myself working every weekend 6+ days a week 70-80 hours a week with no mileage, no benefits, straight commission with a pyramid scheme. I tell you guys one thing the Amway, pyramid scheme is quite common in this state !!! I'm wondering if their is a honest employer left here in Michigan ??? On a positive note despite I taking opening day off of deer hunting (gun) have a interview at a Saturn dealership for automobile sales. I know if I'm offered this job I'm getting in at the wrong economic time but this dealership has a good reputation for treating their employees decent thus what do I have to lose ??? Atleast I would be doing something I like despite the long hours. I will defintely keep looking for something better if I get this job, but I don't think I will be miserable if it takes a while !!!! ;) So wish me luck !!! The interview is at 10:15 a.m. :) I have some news pertaining to the bailout: GM: Tick, tick, tick ... http://www.uaw.org/auto/11_13_08auto1.cfm Main Street's engine http://www.uaw.org/auto/11_14_08auto1.cfm UAW, allies in Washington working to protect our jobs http://www.uaw.org/auto/11_12_08auto1.cfm -Rocky

They don't have the huge bloated cost structure of GM. They also don't have 8 divisions and they don't rebadge the same CUV under four nameplates! Good points !!! But I think their is more to it than that !!! :) Seriously, good luck! If you can land that job in this economy it is a major accomplishment! I have been doing lots of praying. I had a interview a few days ago for an assistant managers position for a rent a center type place. Not my cup of tea but when you are desperate you take whatever you can get. The entry-level managers job would be doing promotions for various sports teams, resturants, etc....I personally would be training 4-6 months to manage their DirecTv, promotions at places like circuit city, best buy !!! He liked the fact that I have experience doing AT&T U-verse, sales and took charge to resolve customer service issues after the sale to help my clients. So having experience in cable type television was a big plus even though I would be jumping sides to promote Satellite Television, instead of cable !!! ;) I also have a working knowledge of DirecTv, because my family were one of the first people in Michigan, to have it and the fact that GM, use to own them I quickly became very fond of the product !!! ;) So thanks I will need all the luck I can get. Have a 2nd interview from 12-7 and probably will have writers cramp by the end of the day as I was told I'd be taking notes !!! ;) -Rocky
Re: Infiniti G35 Owners: MPG-Real World Numbers [KarenS]

I've had my 08 G35x (prem/nav/wood trim) for 2 months. I'm running Shell 93 octane in a semi-hilly area, about 40% highway, the rest is city/rural roads. I'd consider myself a slightly faster than normal driver - only a few rabbit starts, even fewer rapid stops. I do enjoy letting it loose some, but my normal mode of driving is fairly relaxed, though I'm usually 5-10 MPH over the posted speed. My averages over 1659 miles and 5 fill ups: Based on the computer - 20.3 MPG @ 31.7 MPH Based on mileage, computer time, and gallons bought - 20.2 MPG @ 28.8 MPH Given the EPA combined estimate of 19 MPG, I can't complain.
