You can turn off the traction control as well in the CRV by disengaging the VSA. The CRV was not meant to do any serious off-roading to begin with. It was one of the original soft roaders. I have been in 1.5 feet of snow and on slippery iced hills and have never been stuck (so far - phew!) with my 08 CRV. I don't think the front wheels spun even half a revolution before the back took over and push on. A Honda technician tried to explain to me that the wheel that slips is held by that particular brake and then power is transmitted to any of the 3 wheels which still have available grip in varying ratios (front to back). In tough circumstances where the vehicles is bogged down and traction control applies brakes to prevent wheel spin, pressing on the VSA button for one second, disengages the Traction Control as well and then you can apply the correction required to engage the rear wheels. The most important factor in any off- roader is the tires though. With city slick tires, even a Hummer or Jeep would bog down in a little puddle of mud. its amazing how few people talk of that fact. With studded tires, even a mini with proper suspension would climb up a reasonable mud slide.

Brake failure

On 10/29 mileage on vehicle was 19,758. vehicle was being driven by my wife on a flat city street in Laguna Hills CA @ approximately 10 am @ approx 40 mph and the day was clear and warm. She applied the brake pedal to slow down and the brake pedal was hard and would not depress and the vehicle would not slow down and a grinding noise came from the front wheels and the front end was shaking the antiskid light came on (while she continued to press down on the brake pedal) and the the brakes did not engage until the vehicle traveled approx 100 feet. The vehicle slowed and she pulled into a parking lot at a slow speed and it happened again.Towed to closest dealer. That dealer ffound no problem, and no codes showed up. Took it to dealer that sold the vehicle to us. They can't replicate the problem, but are still researching.

I got them down to $21750 including doc fee (he says required in our state by law) but not taxes or registration. He listed it at $23750. It's the 2007 RAV4 Limited fully tricked out with only 14,190 miles on it. Trying to decide on this or a 2009 or 2008 v6 limited one - someone said they got theirs down to $26570 or something. Keep in mind the features below are standard but also include the extras (like bluetooth that comes with the JBL speakers). It also has a clean carfax and autocheck record. 29.3 MPG this time

Very happy with that mileage. This was my usual mix of driving, two lane rural roads with hills, curves, and three stop signs before reaching the town where I work, some miles in town at lunch time, and then the drive back home in the evening. No bumper to bumper city driving, but no interstate cruising, either. Tom

I own a 2009 Sonata 4 cylinder and I think it has plenty of power. I would say the tachometer stays below 3,500 rpm when I pull away from a stop light. I get 28 MPG around town (Not City) and 38 MPG with 4 adults highway. I noticed when I first got the car and drove it on highways that had hills with the 4 adults aboard it would downshift which I was not use to happening. I think I was originally conditioned that once a car got in high gear it stayed in high gear until you stop. I have no problem keeping up with normal people at stop signs.
