2007 Honda Fit - Electronic Power Steering EPS Intermittent Failure
by tecon on Wed Oct 29 17:38:06 PDT 2008
This morning when I started my car to go to work the power steering did not work. It was a cold morning - 40 degrees (cold by Florida standards). I googled the problem and found this forum. Per forum information, I tried restarting the car a few times, which did not solve the problem. I called Honda at 800-999-1009, described my problem and the common problem in this forum. Honda stated that they had no technical service notes and issued a case # N012008-102900045, stating that only the dealer could diagnose the problem and if the dealer could not find a problem there is no problem. Since my car has almost 77K miles I'm out of warranty. I called to check tow prices to get it to the dealer >$100. I went back out and restarted the car. This time the power steering worked and the indicate light turned off. I drove it to Brandon Honda who diagnosed that the electronic power steering control module was defective due to the latched computer code of 32-09. The EPS control module is $734.80 (P/N 39980SLNA01). Adding labor and taxes for a grand total of $971.00. When the power steering goes out I would not consider the car "drivable". It is this factor that makes this problem unsafe. A failing EPS control module during driving has a high possibility of resulting in an accident. I am getting my "failed but working" EPS control module back from the dealer. If anyone has electrical diagrams to connect this module - please post. I would like to put the module in the temperature chamber at work and cycle it through the automotive temperature range of -40C to 125C. I suspect that this a temperature related power on reset and/or initialization problem that impacts all 2007 Honda Fits.

Had a deal with good dealer in Tampa (Stadium) on an XLE with pref pack #3, $30,200 ($28,000 for car) OTD and they were going to bring in an acceptable color. Couldn't get closer on Sienna and wife preferred over the Odyssey. Over the weekend saw, then bought, a certified '06 XLE Limited (no res or nav) with 14,900 miles for $23,000. Did get 7 year extended warranty (only 9 months left of original and transferable) for $1050 - no deductible. In the end we get essentially the same vehicle (06 vs 08) with a few more whistles and forever warranty for 4 grand less than we were going to pay. I just want to say that these posts are great and a wonderful help. Also in Tampa Bay, Stadium, Brandon, and Sun Toyota were good folks to deal with. Thank you to all who posted and shared their experiences.

I got it at Leith Honda on Capital Blvd in raleigh. I just walked on the lot looked around and decided to buy it on the spot after 20min test drive. The sales rep I had was really good... Brandon Bradshaw.

Thankyou so much for your great insight and well articulated advice. I am planning on paying cash so the 1.9 percent is attractive but may not be relevent. How much in depreciation do we lose with one model year? I have been watching the inventory at both dealerships for two months and they simply are not selling CRVs. It seems that the recession locally may be more serious than people know. So I will wait for my price or purchase an 09 for $300.00 to $500.00 more. With appreciation and auto buying cheer, Brandon
Light Issue
by dersch on Sat Sep 13 07:20:53 PDT 2008
I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. When you turn the head lights on and have the fog lights on, the fog lights do not work at all. Also, the turn signals will not work with the fog lights on and the headlights on. I could only get the turn signal to work with the running lights on. Another thing is that with the lights on and the fog lights on, the left headlight/ fog light would be really dull. and the left turn signal light stays on. I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this or if they have any ideas. Thanks Brandon please email me at dersch6221992@aim.com
