Re: If GM gets rid of Buick... [imidazol97]
by tlong on Thu Oct 23 22:28:32 PDT 2008
Just what percent of the dollar value of Honda vehicles sold here do they build here? Same question for Toyota. How much is sold here that actually is imported rather than assembled here. Here are some numbers I found on the internet, data from 2008: Vehicle - Percent N.A. content (or where built outside US) Impala - Canada 300 - Canada HHR - Mexico PT Cruiser - Mexico Fusion - Mexico Equinox - 55% G6 - 85% Cobalt >75% Malibu >75% Edge - 70% Mustang - 65% Escape - 65% Accord - 60% Odyssey - 75% CRV - 10% Civic - 70% Prius - Japan Corolla - 50% Sienna - 85% Camry >75% However, some articles say the formula is flawed and favors domestic makes. For example, "If a supplier produces a car battery in the United States that is made of 70 percent domestic content, when that battery is installed in a U.S.-built, domestic-brand vehicle, it is considered 100-percent domestic content, says AIAM spokesperson Kim Custer. But if that exact battery is installed in a U.S.-built import-brand vehicle, it is considered only 70-percent domestic content."
Re: PRIUS FULLFILLS 2% OF USUAL NEEDS [gagrice]

I'm 6'2" and have driven my 2004 Prius without ever hitting the roof. The legroom on the passenger side is sometimes tight but my wife drove us 1,500 miles from Aspen to Custer, SD and I was fine space wise. Got a flat for the first time in any car I've owned. I just replaced all four tires after about 25,000 miles. That was my mistake in waiting. My only real complaint is driving up a long, steep, straight mountain pass. The battery poops out after five minutes and you can't go faster than 65mph (60 if there's deep snow on the road. My Highlander Hybrid does not have that problem. A turbo on the Prius would be the perfect solution.
Re: 2007 vs 2008 Jeep Patriot [joep5]
by aaron_t on Fri Apr 04 10:02:12 PDT 2008
As far as I know, there is $2750 in dealer cash on 2007 Patriots. 2008 models have $500 custer rebate plus $2000 VIN-specific (I think the VIN specific is a farce and all 2008 Patriots get the $2k). rebate. So, theoretically, there is only $250 more on the table for 2007 models. Now, a dealer might be willing to sell a 2007 model for less, maybe $500 or $1000 less than a 2008 model with same equipment, then take off the $2750. Most likely, it will come down to price vs. availbility. There are not many 2007 models on dealer lots. If you are picky about certain equipment, you may not find what you want. You may end up paying more (for more equipment) on a 2007 model vs. a 2008 model that fits your needs. Use the jeep dealer inventory search feature to look at what your local dealers have on hand. I test drove a 2007 Compass about a month ago with MSRP ~$26.6k. They were willing to sell it for $1303 under employee price, then take off the rebate ($4750). I did not ask for pricing on a similar 2008 model. I ended up buying a different 2007 Compass with MSRP ~$22.7k for $15.4k + TTL, about $500 under EP. Less of a discount for less equipment, but still $3k less OTD.

Re: I waited 10 months to buy [surfsalot]

Surfsalot - Glad Denny Hecker Rosedale found your perfect vehicle, I bought mine from their Inver Grove location. Funny you should mention them, I was out of town from July 11 until last night and had a cell phone call from the salesperson at Denny Hecker Rosedale I last dealt with on May 30. He asked if I had bought a Santa Fe yet, I said I was in Colorado Springs with my new Santa Fe, he was speechless and I wonder why he waited so long to follow up. There are more Santa Fe's in the mountainous west than I've seen in the Twin Cities. Loved the headlights that showed me a mule deer I probably wouldn't have seen with my old minivan headlights. Glad the buffalo in Custer State Park ignored me, I had to creep by them with only inches to spare on the gravel/dirt road I dared to take my new vehicle on. I brought along my dad's new portable Garmin navigation system since I didn't want it bad enough to wait until the 2008 Santa Fe came out with it. These last postings make it clear that if you are a Santa Fe buyer that wants a particular interior/exterior color, trim level and optional package, you might pay more for it because with the 2008's now in production there are not many 2007's left to pick from.
