Good looking but much later than the ones from the 1800s. Between 1832 and 1839 (the exact year is uncertain), Robert Anderson of Scotland invented the first crude electric carriage. A small-scale electric car was designed by Professor Stratingh of Groningen, Holland, and built by his assistant Christopher Becker in 1835. Practical and more successful electric road vehicles were invented by both American Thomas Davenport and Scotsmen Robert Davidson around 1842. Both inventors were the first to use non-rechargeable electric cells. Frenchmen Gaston Plante invented a better storage battery in 1865 and his fellow countrymen Camille Faure improved the storage battery in 1881. This improved-capacity storage battery paved the way for electric vehicles to flourish. France and Great Britain were the first nations to support the widespread development of electric vehicles in the late 1800s. In 1899, a Belgian built electric racing car called "La Jamais Contente" set a world record for land speed - 68 mph - designed by Camille Jénatzy http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aacarselectrica.htm
Road TRip

I took my 6 yr old son down to Myrtle Beach from NJ in the 03 OB, the first road trip since I got it a year ago. It was a very comfortable ride, and my son had the portable DVD player plugged into the switch in the rear so he had a great time. Even with the 4EAT no trouble keeping up with traffic on the I95 autobahn in the the carolinas doing 80-85. In fact on one stretch I averaged 26 MPH- not bad with a/c on, Nokian tires and going 80+ MPH. The car got blasted last sunday with tropical strorm gaston and we saw lots of Power Co. trucks on I95 heading south as we returned on Saturday but otherwise very happy with the OB on the trip. After driving a Plymouth voyager for 9 years and a 93 exploder for a year I'm pretty pleased with the car. Not to say that I haven't lusted after a new 6C or a turbo AT given that I'm stuck with AT due to defective body parts- maybe in a couple of years...:) Robert
Re: Bought EX 4WD Pilot [azrn]

I got an Internet quote of $26,400 from Gaston on an EX-L, 2wd. Thinking that I might want a 2009, we decided to wait. However, if I could get it one for $25,800 (invoice is approximately $800 more the EX, 4wd) plus get the 3-year 0.9% financing, I would probably go for that. Thanks for the reply!

Sure, bought my pilot at Right honda in Phoenix. You must see Gaston or PJ in the FLEET dept. to get this deal. By my math I thought it was a good deal and they beat all my other quotes by over 800 dollars. Good luck and let us know how it goes. By the way, their internet quote was origionally 26,000, but after paying a visit to them, they dropped down to 25K.

Thanks for the info - I've found out that Gaston in California will be getting 50 but still only 3 in Seattle :confuse: that doesn't make sense. Particularly as they are not the "newest dealer".
how I am saving....
by bigdveedubgirl on Tue Apr 25 10:43:59 PDT 2006
Drive an F-150 with about 17-20 mpg. I try to fill up at my in-laws who live in the sticks (so the fuel is not reformulated) and pay $2.82 for 87. (Creechville and FM 85 in Ennis, TX EZ mart.) In town, I cannot find any cheaper than $2.89 (citgo gaston and haskell dallas, tx) I am not going to get pissed off at our american addiction to fuel because that does not make fuel any les expensive, does not make my fuel efficiency any better, but what I am doing to save fuel is going to work and back (I have a 50 mile round trip commute) and anything that I need, be it food, shopping, libations, movies we walk to or it is in a 2 mile radius. I shop online for all my cosmetics, and some clothing. We have saved alot of money because we eat at home more often, No more impulse trips to the mall, and less wear on my car.
