I'm by no means old (28 years) but when shopping for a comfortable vehicle for long road trips that had a bit of punch and reliability I couldn't turn my 2007 Avalon XLS down. I was very surprised by the acceleration and performance from such a large car, its got very soft comfortable suspension which of course does not lend to pushing it hard into corners. That said I am very surprised at just how well it handles when you force it into a corner, the car is so soft that it feels like you should back off, but once you used to it you can really swing it in quite hard, it gives pretty good feel through the wheel, seat and pedals of whats going on, so I have not had much trouble reading it. I have 25000 miles on mine so far and not 1 days worth of trouble, I don't expect to ever have any either (knock wood) if its taken care of as far as maintenance is concerned. The look is by no means sporty, I feel it looks very "elegant" in design. I don't quite know where the stereotype of "old people drive camrys" comes from with the latest styling that Toyota has come up with on those models, but to each their own I suppose. The car can certainly keep up with most vehicles on the road, a bit of a wolf in sheep clothing in my opinion. Always puts a smile on my face when some kiddie in his honda civic or the typical BMW driver (who all own the road supposedly) pull up next to the light and attempt to pull off and in front of the Avalon. My XLS does not have the TRAC system, but a clean pull off with a good hard stomp to the floor leads to their jaws dropping in shock and horror. Thats another thing. the transmission is awesome, it finds power at any speed, on any incline. The pedal is quite a sensitive beast and enjoys dropping gear and revving quite hard at the drop of a hat. I think each car is certainly in a class of its own, the TL is more of a refined sports car where the Avalon is built for absolute comfort with some good horses under the hood. A good short description of the Avalon would be that its "like driving a rocket propelled cloud". Cheers Sheldon

I was 5 years old when this was composed. Our family car was a 1938 Chevy coupe. The Kingston Trio did it on their Hungry I album about 1959 or 1960. The coupe was still the family car. I’m trying to stay on topic. Thus ends our musical history lesson for today MERRY LITTLE MINUET – by Sheldon Harnick 1953 1. They’re rioting in Africa They’re starving in Spain 2. There’re hurricanes in Florida And Texas needs rain. The whole world is festering with unhappy souls, 3. The French hate the Germans, 4. The Germans hate the Poles, 5. Italians hate Yugoslavs, 6. South Africans hate the Dutch, (And I don’t like anybody very much!) But we can be thankful, and tranquil, and proud For Man’s been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud, 7. And we know for certain that one lovely day, Someone will set the spark off And we will all be blown away. 8. They’re rioting in Africa, 9. There’s strife in Iran. 10. What Nature doesn’t do to us Will be done by our fellow man.

BUYER BEWARE: LEXUS ES

The law firm of Sheldon J. Schlesinger, P.A. has filed a class action suit against Lexus U.S.A. Inc., Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., and others, claiming that Lexus failed to correct problems with the front passenger air bag system in thousands of 2007 Lexus ES350 automobiles. The suit claims that the sensor under the front passenger seat of all ES350s does not work properly in some situations, and may fail to trigger the right front airbag in the event of a collision. The suit further alleges that Lexus has refused to correct the problem. “The defendants have indicated that they do not have a solution for the defect,” the suit said By equipping their vehicles with the defective airbag occupant classification sensor systems, defendants have breached their expressed and implied warranties in violation of Florida law,” Schlesinger said in his suit. “The defendants continue to sell and lease the defective vehicles despite their awareness of the defect and the dangers posed by that defect.” Involved are “tens of thousands of vehicles manufactured by the defendants, which are leased and sold throughout Florida and come equipped with dangerous and defective airbag systems,” the suit claims. At issue is the ES350’s airbag system, and specifically the systems’ airbag occupant classification sensor. “All of the defective vehicles are equipped with a weight sensor system beneath the front passenger seat,” according to the suit. “The purpose of the sensor is to gauge the weight of the person in that seat.” When the sensor detects the presence of a passenger, the suit claims, it arms the passenger airbag. But the suit alleges the ES350’s sensors are defective and often do not detect the presence of a passenger. Involved are “tens of thousands of vehicles manufactured by the defendants, which are leased and sold throughout Florida and come equipped with dangerous and defective airbag systems,” the suit claims. If you can't get good deals in Houston, I suggest checking out Garlyn-Sheldon (not 100% sure the spelling) BMW in Bryan-College Station. It's 80 miles from Houston. They are smaller and simpler and would do deals that Houston would not. Also, it seems like the dealersips North of town have less customers and are more willing to give more discounts. Good luck
