2007 Honda S2000
by phill_69 on Tue Apr 01 08:47:15 PDT 2008
Hi everyone, I am back in Canada with my 2007 Honda S2000. Flew down to Hilton Head Island SC. Picked it up at the mercedes/ honda dealer there. Wired the money. Got all of the documentation I needed. Sent the fax to US Customs Minimum 72 hours in advnce. Drove back after spending 2 beautiful days with the top down. No problems at the border. Line up after signing in around 1:30 pm Monday at US Customs. Very busy. After about 40 minutes waiting in a room. They asked for my original title and on e copy of same. Customs officer did a bit of typing on the computer. She asked which car it was outside. Looked out her window. Said ok. Date stamped the title and said I could go. Officer at the canadian side was very nice. She took down some information about the car on a yellow slip and pull over to Customs office. She smiled and said enjoy the car. Filled in Form 1. Showed Officer my receipt and title. She processed info. Filled in form 1. Told me to pay my 6.1 and 5 percent. Also 100 for air conditioning tax. Paid my taxes with Visa. Showed the Officer on the way out the yellow slip. He looked at the car from 20 feet away. Asked me how I liked the car. Asked me to show the receipt and asked what it cost new. He said looks like I got a great deal. Smiled and said enjoy the car ! Total time at the border 90 minutes. Most of that just waiting in line. Registered online with RIV cost 204.75. Money spent so far about 30 K for an 11 month old car. Here same car with taxes that is about 60K. Whole trip was well worth it. Last thing to do is wait for form 2 and get Canadian Tire to give their ok. Then I can get Ontario Plates. Hope more people buy inthe USA. Maybe then the canadian Manufacturers will see the light. The crossing at the border was a bit nerve racking since I hadn't done it before. But if you have all the paperwork it is as easy as bringin gover your booze and cigars. Paul

.. although we saw lots of other idiots doing donuts and flying off into the ditch. Oh they have no clue how to drive in snow down there. I've seen 3 inches of snow paralyze Washington DC. Be glad you're in Hilton Head, I know a guy in Ottawa who tells me they've broken the all-time record for Snowfall. Same thing's going on back home in New Hamster, but we're "wintering" in AZ. There's so many midwesterners and Canadians around here you wonder who's minding the store up there. I was in sales and marketing too, used to crank out 40 or 50K miles every year at one time but I wasn't as lucky as you. I still get the ocassional ticket. I wrecked a car or two but nobody ever got hurt.

That is true...they have spoiled us. For me, all else aside, it's a good car for the money. What I am happy about is I'm still getting very good gas mileage. On a recent trip to Hilton Head Island I got 34mpg, and generally get 23.5-24 in mixed local driving. Gas prices are going up again because we MAY have a hurricane hit us. Any excuse they can use to raise the prices...
Talk "Prelude" to Me!
by lulu9 on Mon Apr 09 18:46:37 PDT 2007
Loved reading this post so much that I'm copying and pasting the entire thing. Bring it on, dude! And you waited this long to talk Prelude to me? "You held out until now to tell us of your speeding escapades? Cmon Girl! We need to know these things! Cruising at high speeds is actually part of what makes the Prelude such a well balanced car. It can attack any set of curves at any time, but also has a rock solid (dare I say Germanic) highway ride that doesn't wander at any speeds (that I've driven anyway). A few years ago my best friend and I took my Prelude down to Hilton Head, SC for a few days. He used to have a Prelude (White '92 Si Automatic), but had been out of it for a long time. We drove at speeds slightly exceeding the posted limit and he was extremely impressed with how well the Prelude held the road and how comfortable the seats were after many hours of driving. At the time his ride was a Sport Package Equipped Audi A4 3.0 Quattro." Now this is the stuff that's near and dear to my heart! ;) Don't think for a minute that I'm a girl driving a guy's car like a girl. No way! Being an adrenaline junkie, a certain amount of fearlessness and guts goes with the territory, so I love speed, acceleration, handling--anything high T--anything that makes my heart race. No coincidence that skiing was a big thing with me for quite a number of years. When my friend shared with me her test drive experience of the S2000 in thrilling detail, I just knew that owning a car like that (or any of the cars you mention in your awards...even more so) would be like getting a strong dose of some amazing mood enhancing drug every time I got behind the wheel! With these cars, there's got to be an addictive element going on for people wired a certain way, don't you think? What better way to achieve a natural high? Dare you say Germanic? Well, funny you should mention that because ex, who drove my car home from Long Island for me (while I followed) is both German and a German car afficionado (but not a snob refreshingly...he just appreciates fine machinery, ingenuity, and exceptional design), and his comment was that my Prelude really blew his skirt up, both mechanically and the way it drove. So now whenever he calls, instead of how are you, he's teasingly asks, "How's my car?" :P Yeah, when I was finally able to get up to 100 mph just to feel the engine at that speed (because traffic was minimal), the first thing I noticed was how squirrely (bad) the tires felt. Actually, my tires don't feel confident even at 65 mph--especially in the rain--so I knew that driving at 100 mph would feel dangerous--and it did--all because of the tires--a real buzz-kill. A situation soon to be addressed!
