Purchased 2009 Honda Pilot 4WD with RES
by duane10 on Mon Nov 10 11:06:15 PST 2008
For everyone's information: On 10/7/08 we purchased a 2009 Pilot 4WD with RES for $33K including destination fee. They gave us 0% financing for 4 years on $15K. I put down the remainder of the purchase price. This was in Palo Alto California at Anderson Honda... They also would have gone down to $32.4K purchase price with but would only finance at 2.9%.

Private investors have shown interest in General Motors Corp.'s proposed acquisition of Chrysler LLC and may help finance the deal if the U.S. government agrees to provide funds, sources close to the negotiations said Wednesday. GM and Cerberus Capital Management LP, Chrysler's majority owner, seek as much as $10 billion in federal loans and other aid to finance a deal. Outside investors have expressed interest in the deal, but Cerberus is focusing on lining up crucial government aid, said one source familiar with the situation. In addition to lobbying top Bush administration officials, GM and Cerberus executives have reached out to both presidential candidates to seek support for a deal, sources say. The government signaled its responsiveness this week, with the U.S. Energy Department moving to speed up the release of $25 billion in low-cost loans that Congress authorized earlier this year for the auto industry. While a GM-Chrysler combination would lead to thousands more job cuts, the deal is increasingly being presented as the best alternative to the possible collapse of one or more of Detroit's automakers in a rapidly deteriorating environment. Industry analysts say the U.S. auto market's slump to its weakest levels since the 1980s is forcing the industry to consolidate. "A merger of some type is likely to occur because the economics now are not sustainable for three separate Detroit automakers," Patrick Anderson, CEO of the consulting firm Anderson Economic Group, said Wednesday. GM and Cerberus negotiators have made progress in the talks, reaching agreement on some key issues, said sources familiar with the situation. Cerberus also is in talks with the Renault-Nissan alliance, but the two sides have been unable to agree on a valuation for Chrysler. Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co., has said publicly that automakers are unlikely to take part in deals requiring cash investments during the global credit crunch. Last week, Daimler AG said it had written down the book value of its remaining 19.9 percent stake in Chrysler to zero. Cerberus purchased 80.1 percent of Chrysler in August 2007 from Daimler for $7.4 billion, with most of that money going into Chrysler.
Re: Please reactivate Financed Honda Care Cancellation [mackeyiv]

mackeyiv wrote : " bought the Honda Care 7 year 75K mile extended warrantee for $1145 at the dealership Anderson Honda in E. Palo Alto under the assurance written into the contract and confirmed by the finance guy that I could get my money back if I canceled within 60 days. He said the money would go to the leaseholder AHFC and this would cover the first few payments. When I got home I saw that I could get the identical Honda Care Warrantee at www.hondacuraworld.com for $845 (and I can wait 3 years to buy it), so I asked the dealer to refund me the $300 difference or I would cancel - no deal. I called Honda Care and AFHC (2 phone numbers but same company) and they the customer service rep assured me that Honda Care would send a check to AFHC and AHFC assured me this check would be applied to my payments. So I submitted the form and canceled it. " mackeyiv, you are freaking out, calm down. AHFC is not a fly by night operation. They will honor their word. Your cancellation of HCEW will be applied as a reduction of principle financed with your lender AHFC. They have to be paid, you financed, they lent. Anyway congratulations on not paying retail . Buy online or at least use their pricing to negotiate retail. HCEW will get back to you quickly. Relax. See : "wanted to let everyone know that it looks like AHFC did come through with crediting my account for the canceled Honda Care - so I can skip the payments for the next 3 months . After I finally got to talk to a supervisor and explained that "policy" or not, this is not what the contract says. They agreed not to count this credit as a security deposit, and instead as a payment - which is what the first Customer Service Rep who I talked to had told me they would. They said he made a mistake in telling me this but I'm just happy I don't need to wait 3 years to get my money back. " The worries were imaginary, Glad for your good outcome.

Where I bought the '08 Civic LX: i live in the bay area also, but i negotiated the '08 lx deal for my parents who live in richmond, va. Strategy: my strategy was probably similar to others on this website--i just asked a bunch of dealers (local and a bit further away) to beat my previous lowest price until... as far as buying with cash, i'm not sure if that helps or not, although we did buy cash. you might try emailing dealers in socal, just to see if it might be worthwhile to buy the car there. or, if you get a great deal from one of them, you can use that price to leverage a better deal locally--this is what i did/do. Best Honda Dealer in the Bay Area: last year, i bought a new accord in the bay area and thought i got a good deal through grace honda in san bruno (23.5K for a V-6 with NAV). they even beat the socal dealerships i shopped around at and overall, it was a pretty good buying experience. also, i think i remember a dealership in the east bay had good prices, but i don't remember which dealer it was. Worst Honda Dealers (at least in pricing): ANDERSON HONDA--probably the worst prices i found in the...world. ok, maybe not the world, but... Stevens Creek--Meh! Mike Anderson--priced like they're in burlingame. oh...they are in burlingame! Any other questions?

Are you just now finding out that meat eaters are the major cause of Global Warming? PETA has been using Pam Anderson to spew that line for a while now. Rice paddies also cause Global Warming. The methane gas released by the meat animals is considered to be 23 times more potent as a climate change agent than carbon dioxide. Multiply this with 55,000 million cattle that are reared the world over for meat consumption, and you will have a fair idea of how much additional heat is being generated. Imagine if China and America alone were to reduce its meat consumption by just ten per cent every year, wouldn't the world's environment be much cleaner and cooler? And this brings me to another aspect of the global warming debate. Cultivation of rice too is blamed for releasing methane into the environment. With 97 per cent of world's rice grown in Asia, the Asian rice paddies are being accused of adding on to global warming and also sucking the land dry. Since 5000 litres of water is required to produce one kilo of rice, Asian farmers are blamed for the falling groundwater levels. In the recent past, there have been suggestions to reduce the rice plantings so as to not only conserve water but also to save the world from warming up.
