Re: Accord not the ugly duckling anymore? [bhmr59]

My bad, I confused your part of town with Greenwich. My point still stands though.

I drive a lot in CT on the turnpike and Merritt between Greenwich and New Haven. My theory is they don't patrol because there are so few safe places to pull someone over (esp on the Merritt). I know that 84 is a different story, esp east of Hartford. There is no worse place to be in a car than in the center lane of the turnpike with one of those cheap Boston-NY bus service buses about four inches off your back bumper, trying to get you to move. Yikes.

I didn't mean to worry you but I guess you should know the facts. Some homes escaped unaffected so I surely hope yours is one of them. My seepage was minimal in relation to the magnitude of the situation but others got hit really bad. My street ranged from bone-dry homes to 3 feet in basements according to the fire department. The only thing I can suggest is to have someone go into your home (we have relatives and neighbors hold our keys for emergencies etc.) to check it out if possible. Town services have been helping many with draining and making sure electric and gas is not a hazard. BTW, as of last night the Bronx River Parkway was still closed from the Sprain Parkway to Scarsdale. Also Bronxville High School was still closed yesterday because of water damage and Mammaroneck took a severe beating. Greenwich also got blitzed. They say this is the worst rain storm we have had in about 125 years.

Brightness, you must be reading my mind, it sounded as if you have done all this before... Sienna is the only minivan available with AWD I believe. Also, we don't believe in flying with our daughter being so young, not to mention the amount of stuffs that would have to be lugged along. Don't get me started with the nanny thing. You are so right about first time mother and getting a nanny. Just last week, I went to Greenwich to scout out the location, so I set her up with a very nice older nanny from the Far East for a try out. She would help with the baby, cook, clean and do all house chores, all for 2 weeks worth of my pay per year. The week went by beautifully, but as soon as I came back, my wife claimed that she no longer want to have a nanny and the biggest single reason she gave was exactly what you said :confuse: In any case, I have been all over the places with respect to the choices for the subi's replacement.
Re: Price over invoice [legendman]

I think you're 100% right in that you should drive for the lowest possible price - and walk if you're not happy with the deal... but once you go "below" our, or the buyers "known" invoice price there really aren't any guarantees... Unless you're purchasing a Kia, Hyundai, or the dealer is in bad shape. In the day of the internet with the potential for unlimited research on anything "walk-in's" are still paying MSRP plus for vehicles like Ford Explorers (Ford recalls (7)figures of them for faulty roof structure, it's posted on the six o'clock news, and they still sell like hotcakes :confuse: ),.... Other mitigating factors that you touched on such as season, region, weather, first model year, last model year, and the social / economic break down of the majority of a given dealers customers have to be considered...in Greenwich Connecticut they mark up milk 20% :) so IMHO, to purchase a premium vehicle (especially Lexus) with high reliability, top safety features, few recalls, and a high resale value within two to five hundred dollars over invoice one wouldn't be considered a fool.

Kapouch, I also live in CT. and I am trying to land an RX300. I have only begun looking and paid a visit to McDermit in East Haven. Again it was a lease of $1005.00 down and $499 a month. I have not looked at other dealers. Have you had good or bad experiences with any of the four in the state. I live in Wallingford and Hartford is easy but I here the Greenwich dealer might be the most aggressive. Good luck with negotiating and I would appreciate any help. dj
