XM receiver to replace Sirius receiver in 09 Jetta TDI
by bryanav8r on Wed Nov 05 10:03:26 PST 2008
Just recently picked up an 09 Jetta TDI wagon. Love the car. But...I have 2 other cars with XM versus Sirius. In digging around the net (Google is your friend...), I see that there is an XM receiver that appears to be a drop in alternative for the Sirius decoder in past years. Now, I know that SIR bought out XM, and so forth. But, I like (or am more used to...) the XM selections and offerings. So..has anyone made the switch? I've got the 6 CD changer/AM/FM/Sat radio that's standard with the Sportwagen TDI; is the receiver that's been bandied about been tried on the latest models and has anyone had success with the swap? I know I can take the spare XM Commander I de-installed from my trade-in and mount it under the back floor, stick the chicklet on the roof and run cables to the aux audio in jack in the armrest; I'm kind of looking for a more integrated solution. Thoughts? Thanks BB 09 Sportwagen TDI Life in the fast lane, with a DIESEL of all things...:)

the only thing I can think of . is possible mixing of coolants . I know it doesnt make orange but Green and Red could make a rusty color . that or its oil mixing with the coolant which would be very very bad .yes over filling your oil can be harmful . I am suprised you didnt get a CEL light . for the power loss there is actually a recall for this . Good luck

dude, i have an 01 tundra, v8, 4wd...and i live it most of the time. i used it to jump start a peice of logging equipment one cold saterday morning,,,,and fried the battery. needles to say i replaced the battery, and tried to go the cheap route, after i put the new batt in, my truck did the exact same thing yours did......so i went to the best battery and,,,,no more problems. sounds overly simple but the cheap batt didnt have enough whatever to work the electric systems and the computer.

Mark, we have to define "idling". For me it's 2-5 minutes on a warm up. But I don't always agree with the manufacturers. Even before the days of synthetic oils. My 1997 GMC pick up was required to have oil changes every 7000 miles. I averaged about 1800 miles per oil change interval. Mini says 10,000 but I'm inclined not to agree with this. I still support the old school thinking that frequent oil changes and good warm ups are the way to go. Well that's the way we did it at State U Morrisville NY automotive engineering div. I believe there are 2 schools of thought about everything even break in techniques. You were right however about the clicking exhaust noise . It happens about the 2nd minute of warm up but it's a no brainer. A car this small it's not hard to locate the tail pipe and noises related to this. Just for curiousity do you own a mini too? Joe

has anyone replaced there computer yet ? I was wondering how much it costs. My warning lights come on and off and my traction control on and off and the transmission jerks and slams into gear when the light are on so I figured it was the computer malfunctioning
