Also Alliston, Ontario. However, it is also probable that a few are made in Japan, probably to boost capacity until the Greensburg, IN plant gets online.

Yes, I see that Honda's plans were notcommital in the earlier press release. It appears that Honda got firmer on the Civic for Greensburg later. Thanks for the links!

Here is the original Honda announcement regarding the Greensburg plant. http://world.honda.com/news/2006/c060629NewAutomobilePlant/ Note that, as I stated, it says nothing about the Civic and says in fact "Honda will announce additional details of its vehicle production plans at a later date." This lack of mention of any particular model led to speculation by industry analysts and by the press that the Fit could be made there; here is an example (look near the bottom of the page): http://www.greensburgdecaturcounty.com/honda_indystar.htm

Not that it is really very important, but when Honda first made an announcement for the Greenburg plant on March 20, 2007 JST (March 19 US), it did explicitly state the model name to be assembled there as the Civic, with the planned production of 200K units per year. The Japanese HQ press release which I have in front of me does say the Civic (4 door). The worldwide press release that came out at the same time is here: http://world.honda.com/news/2007/c070319ManufacturingIndiana/ Every press release that has come out of Honda about Greensburg since then has consistently mentioned the Civic, and Civic alone. The production of the Fit there has been pure speculation, with no reliable sources cited by anyone. That having been said, Honda's new assembly lines of late have been set up for the flex build, which permits multiple product lines to be assembled on a single line. So it is possible that the Fit can be run at Greensburg with a relatively quick tool-up period. Whether or not Honda cares to do that while cutting into the production of a more profitable model (Civic), I am not sure....

Actually, when the Greensburg plant was announced, Honda didn't say just which car(s) would be made there. But there was rampant speculation that if the Fit would not be made there, the extra production of whatever would be made there (e.g. Civics) would free up production capacity elsewhere for the Fit. At least we could hope so. Or maybe Honda will be content to restrict production on the Fit so it can make more money on higher-profit cars like the Civic. In the end, it's not about making what people want to buy, but how much money there is to be made.

backy, if you are referring to the Indiana (Greensburg), that plant was always slated for the Civic production, not the Fit.
