2007 CRV Towing a Trailer
by johnnyr on Mon Feb 25 04:08:52 PST 2008
Want to pull a utility trailer with my GL1800 Goldwing on it, total weight approx 1400-1500 lbs.(trailer and bike) from the TX coast to Camp Pendleton, CA. Is the wife's 2007 CRV up to it or am I risking damage to the transmission, etc.?
Weekend cold set new record lows

From CA to AK record cold temps. Since before the advent of the SUV. The bright side is all the wackos in San Francisco may have to do without their wine due to the early frost. Cold temperatures set several new record lows this weekend, including a low of 22 Saturday in downtown Pendleton that broke a 118 year-old record of 24. Record lows started falling Thursday with a new low of 20 for Meacham, four degrees cooler than the previous record from 2006, according to information from the Web site for the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Pendleton. http://www.eastoregonian.info/print.asp?SectionID=13&SubSectionID=48&ArticleID=8- 3885&TM=29612.53 Where is Al Gore when you need him to explain. Probably laughing at the schmucks that believe his crappola. Out on the boat burning fuel in his jetski.

wwest- Your conclusion sounds logical to me. I, also, have an AWD van, though mine is a 1998. With 190,000 miles on it, we have had it ~16 months and the front pads have worn probably about 10% in those 20,000 miles. I think the brakes on this van are excellent, especially on dry surfaces. They are extremely responsive to driver input and will slow the vehicle down very quickly in a "panic" stop. Good luck tracking down the issue, and please post the solution when it is found. I used to live in Pendleton, OR, and used Les Schwab on numerous occasions. I always found their staff helpful and honest, so I expect they will do everything they can to set this situation right both for your daughter's safety and your satisfaction.

I have a 92 Lesabre with the 3800 series (before the series II with the coolant problem), with 155k+ mi on the odometer. I get at least 20mpg around town, and 28 - 30 mpg highway. (30mpg was the most ever doing 75mph on I-84 between Pendleton, OR and Portland, OR.) Who says you have to have a brand new subcompact to get decent gas mileage? Oh, and with a tranny cooler and brake controller I can tow 3000 lbs, too. Maintenance is pretty much just oil changes, tranny fluid changes and brakes. I had to replace the driver side seat belt latch and the power antenna recently. Both were cheap at a u-pull-it. My A/C compressor went out last year, but with the help of a local A/C tech I am able to fix the A/C and convert it to R134a for less than $200.

Thanks for the reply. Need to clarify that my son is stationed at Pendleton, not me. He's a marine helicopter pilot and the wife and I are going out to see him over Easter. I've made the trip out there a few times on the motorcycle to ride together out there or back to TX w/him. I've got a diesel pickup, but need to reduce the annual mileage it's racking up. Besides, gas is cheaper than diesel currently. I've pulled a lot of trailers, having grown up on a farm. In those days, everything was underpowered and woefully under braked. My worry is primarily to not damage the drivetrain. From what I've read, looks as though it will do fine so long as common sense is used.

Yes, absolutely. Once one drives east of The Dalles, the road just gets flatter and straighter right up through Pendleton. Then there is Cabbage Hill and the Blue Mountains, and it picks up a bit in the interest department. Not that I mind the Columbia Basin, mind you. I really like the area and lived there for 16 years, but I-84 just is not very interesting driving.
