Re: 2007 vs 2009 FIT [mustangxr]
by mustangxr on Mon Nov 03 02:08:04 PST 2008
Here is an addendum to my test drive report on the 2009 Fit. On the old Fit, the windows seemed to fog up all the time while driving in the rain. Even with freshly cleaned windows on the inside, it would fog up. This made it necessary to have the ventilation system in defrost mode to keep the windows clear! Which meant that the air conditioning HAD to be running any time it was raining!?!? The new, improved Fit however does not do this. So now I can drive around in the Pacific Northwest rainfall and not have to be in an air conditioning mode of ventilation. Which hopefully will make for better fuel consumption numbers. Speaking of fuel consumption figures, I have noticed that on my first tank of gas, the average fuel consumption readout stabilized at 5.7liters per 100 km. I converted this figure to gallons and found I was getting 41.5 MPG!?!?! ...... NOT! I ran the first tank to dead empty and got 750 km out of the first tank. (466 miles) This distance burned 48 liters of fuel or 12.7 US Gallons which works out to a very respectable 36.6 mpg. (City highway mix) This is a long way from 41.5 mpg actual mileage however. Therefore, I consider the average fuel mileage minder gauge to be relative information only and not accurate. I am halfway through the second tank of fuel today and the trip meter reads 425 km. or 264 miles. The average fuel consumption readout has steadied down on 5.3 liters per 100 km which is an improvement on the first tank. I continue to discover little things that are an improvement to the older Fit. Somehow the rear window does not get so much rain and mud on it during the wet weather. I also like that the rear window wiper actuates when going into reverse gear with the front wipers "on". Another little thing is the rake of the front windscreen. The angle of the windshield has been increased considerably. I have coated the windscreen with "RAIN-X" and now when the car is traveling at 45 mph or more, it is not necessary to operate the wipers. The rain just rolls up the glass and over the roof. This is very cool. OK, that is my latest info. Cheers to all. Pete
Re: Time to replace Air Filter [mclincoln]

or, for a more conservative approach, take out the air filter yourself and look at it. Yes a plugged up air filter is bad, but it entirely depends how dusty the environment of your usual driving has been. I replace mine on time, not early, and while they always look a little dirty, they aren't dramatically packed with volumes of dust -- you can tell what color the original new filter element was. My driving is ordinary urban/suburban Pacific Northwest, not very dry or dusty. I'd guess the midwest / south / eastern seaboard cities and suburbs would be similar, but the southwest, dry mountain west, and farming regions would be worse. Frequent dirt roads would obviously be bad. And I also advise, don't take mileage / power claims too seriously.
Comparison Help Please: Dunlop 3D, Michelin X-Ice 2 and General Artic
by ex_tdier on Mon Oct 20 13:35:49 PDT 2008
I have narrowed down three different sets of tires. I basically need the tires for city driving when there's a dumping in the Pacific North West and for the icy streets that don't tend to get cleared until the warmer weather starts up. I read a few comments and it was reported that some tires are "squirmy". What does that refer to? Basically, my tire size is 205/55R16 for my Mazda and the snow tires in question are: Dunlop 3D, newer Micheline X-Ice 2 General Artic Any input is appreciated. Thanks
A few things I remember about
by iluvmysephia1 on Thu Sep 25 22:46:08 PDT 2008
commuting to work in the Seattle area, my homeland but no longer my home, are as follows: 1) Watch out for the logging trucks...I'd have to share the I-5 freeway with them from up north in Skagit County and tool along around them on the way south to the Everett Boeing plant. They're basically ruthless as hell, they know they're large and they take advantage of it. Rocks fly out from their tires and loads at will and at random. The rocks are murder on your windshield. 2) Overall the commuter force as a whole are a bunch of jerks. Rude and in such a hurry it was ridiculous. I am glad to be baking in the sunny SW desert here in Arizona than be back in my homeland Puget Sound, commuting with the neanderthals. Rude, tailgating idiots. They can have it, artificially-inflated home prices and all. On the flip side, Dick's Drive-In did make a mean deluxe and special hamburger and the fries were good. Seattle has the mah-va-lous Seahawks, the pitiful Mariners and now they no longer have my beloved Sonics. Trying to talk about the Supersonics at Boeing was like talking to brick walls! They'd even turn away like you were talking about the Bubonic plague or something. If it was the horrible Seattle Mariners baseball club they'll talk your ear off. Boy, how exciting, following MLB. What's wrong with these people? Perhaps my favorite thing about my homeland-besides the Supersonics(now the Oklahoma City Thunder  ), are the beautiful mountains, the coastline, the Olympic mountains, the rivers, the mountain lakes, etc. The Space Needle is pretty cool, Pike Place Market, EMP music venue, oh...all of the Pacific NW is van-tastic for music of many kinds. It's an American music mecca and hothouse, full of anger and angst, suicides, and some of the hottest rock and roll available. I think I'm gonna have to head back for a vacation in the spring of '09 sometime. :shades:
plug in tax credit-Volt

Wonder how they figured the 70%? There's something in the package for consumers, too: up to $7,500 to buy plug-in electric cars; The plug-in vehicle payments would go to the first 250,000 consumers to purchase the qualifying 2010 models, Cantwell said. Those consumers can operate their vehicles at the equivalent of about 70 cents per gallon of gas, proponents say, and a study by the Tri-Cities' Pacific Northwest National Laboratory showed enough capacity in the U.S. electric system to support about 70 percent of the country's passenger fleet. "We really want to help drive down that engineering cost and get people who are early adopters to start using the existing electricity grid," Cantwell said, adding that plans to maximize the performance of the grid could further save power.

Ok guys i made the deal last night as i had to get the Van. The Ball Honda dealer in national City got me the deal for 29400(including destination and pro pack). the OTD after taxes and fees was $32000. The ystill have hte nibus gray and slate green with Olive interiors. Please talk to the internet sales manager before going (Paul Najor). They promised me $29300 and when i went there they started saying it did not include desination and propack. I said the price that i was quoted was including every thing. I told them i have an other dealer offering me the same price and if i am not going to get the deal i am going to walk and i said i was willing to pay $29400(THe other dealers who offered me $29300 do not have the colors i need so i was willing to pay a $100 more). If you want it for $29300 you can try Fueller Honda in Chula Vista. Do not go to DCH , mission valley, Pacific Honda or Tipton these dealers are not willing to sell it below $30000)
