It took me exactly six months from the day I ordered to the day I took delivery of my fully loaded AWD 2009 FEHL (April 21 - Oct 21). It has been the best vehicle I've ever driven (all 700 miles of it). I've been averaging about 28 mpg in mostly city driving. Based upon what I've read in this an other forums, I expect the mileage to drop a little during the colder months and pick up again when the weather warms up again in the Spring. I'm still getting used to talking to my vehicle via Sync, but I'm getting the hang of it. Being my first large vehicle (I have a hard time saying the word "truck" for some reason), I really appreciate the backup sensors, which I am happy to report can be turned off when backing up out of my side of the two-car garage to avoid the beeping noise that occurs as soon as I put the car into reverse. I'm just glad there's an easy way to turn the sensors on/off quickly for those of us with two individual garage doors.
Keeping Us Safe From The Lawn Tractor Menace
by oldfarmer50 on Mon Nov 17 10:08:48 PST 2008
GLENS FALLS--A city man was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly driving a lawn tractor on Glen Street while under the influence of marijuana, city police said. Police charged Donald Johnson,42 with driving while ability impaired, driving without headlights or seatbelts and driving an unregistered vehicle. Riding on the hood of the tractor, Johnson's passenger, Carl Critelli, 49 was ticketed for not wearing a seat belt. I'm so glad the local LEOs are keeping the citizens safe. I can only imagine how many people are killed each year while mowing their lawns without a seat belt. My only question, where do I go to get plates for my roto-tiller, Motor Vehicles or the Farm Bureau? :confuse:
Tell Me How
by butchp on Mon Nov 03 07:38:15 PST 2008
I had a 2008 ML350 which was a great car. I could not get beyond 15MPG with my running around burb driving. When the gas went to 4.69 a gallon for premium, I panicked, traded by 3100 mile Benz for a 2008 RX400H. I had owned three or 4 RX models (gasoline) and was always happy although they were slightly underpowered. The RX400h is quick, but it is not built as well as the Benz. I have squeaks and rattles in the vehicle that I did not experience in my prior Lexuses. My biggest complaint is I cant get more than 21mpg no matter what I do. It's still a savings over the Benz, but the 400h cost just under $50k fully optioned. This is not an economy car, it's a luxury car. If I thought the gas was coming back to reality I would have kept my Benz. The rear bumper is automatically dented if you tap the car behind you when you parallel park in the city. I had to buy a bumper pad to protect it. What are bumpers made for. Especially in Manhattan. The car is just not as durable as theML. A German car is a German Car. The Japanese have done a find job with the Lexus and infinity, but this particular model is falling short in all areas. If gas continues to come down I predict I will own another ML in some form within the year. All the beefs put forth in these messages are valid. But tell me, what am I doing wrong for the mileage. I am using premium, I dont beat the car, I'm in stop and go traffic, etc. Thanks
Re: Left Foot Cramping [ateixeira]
by razorasdf on Thu Oct 23 09:57:01 PDT 2008
I'm not that concerned about cramps, but it was asked whether or not autos can give you cramps, and I relayed my experience. I may be in the minority, but I do experience more pain when only using one leg. :shades: I've yet to even feel the slightest cramp in my left leg because of the clutch, even when stuck in heavy traffic, both on the highway and in cities, for upwards of 2 hours. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm using a full range of leg motion vs pivoting on the heel of my right leg. And because I don't have to stand on the brakes because of the auto creep, my right leg isn't nearly as busy, except maybe on steep inclines. I've been almost exclusively driving a manual car for over a year and a half now, and I've yet to feel the slightest pain in either leg (the exception being when I banged my knees really hard falling and it hurt no matter what I did...). I drove an auto for a few years prior, and I had cramps every once in a while. It can't be psychosomatic or something, since I fully expected a pained left leg when I was learning. *shrug* No Kool-Aid here, just honest truth. :D
The good, the bad, the ugly.

High fuel prices worried everyone early this year and 6 to 8 dollar gas was predicted by every talking head you watched on TV. Like everyone else I was more worried by the falling housing market and how high fuel prices would effect everything else I bought. I had more cars than I needed so I sold off all but my GMC 2500 and my old Pontiac 4 banger. I put my mountain home up for sale and moved to the desert where our place is paid for. The good part was my house was priced right and it sold quickly. I didn't make a killing on it but I could pay every thing I owed money on off. Still there was the price of gas. Then someone took offense to my GMC and set it on fire destroying my truck and killing my dog. Not a happy day. Because of the fuel prices I thought about getting something small like and Edge or even a Outback. But I wanted to travel and I wanted to have a travel trailer so I compromised and got a Tahoe. Used but with low miles and because of the fuel prices it was a very good deal. I decided to get a bicycle for doing light errands around town and ended up joining a bicycle club. I am now losing weight and my doctor is happier than he has been in 15 years. I don't use the Tahoe much unless we are taking an trip out of the state so my fuel useage has dropped by maybe 50 to 60 percent. The Pontiac only get about 25 to26 MPG but it only get gas once every three weeks. we now save up for vacations and plan how much we think we will spend and make sure we have the cash in the bank to take the trip. We decide to take another trip to Colorado this October, I am posting from the camp site as I type. We left California paying $3.58 a gallon. Got hit with a higher price in Needles a bit over $4.00. I had budgeted for $4,00 a gallon. Arizona was $3.48. New Mexico was $3.38. And as we got to Pueblo Colorado a Pilot station was selling gas for $2.99. The stock market may be taking a dive but oil is dropping to less than 90 bucks a barrel. I was thrilled. In Colorado Springs gas at a Chevron on Monday was $3.11 and in Canyon City on Tuesday it was $3.07. If this continues I will have spent far less on gas and bought far more in souveneres. I plan on spending the day at the Garden Of the Gods today and who know were we will go tomorrow. So the good news is my vacation and my choices haven't hurt me as much as I thought and I over reacted. The other good news is the prices of some of these little econo boxes should drop. The bad news is I still haven't found a small EV for around town, I have been looking for a used GEM I can get a deal on so I can pay cash. The Ugly news is the economy is a mess and those of us who took time to protect ourselves will have to bail out those who didn't. But that is life and I would still have done pretty much what I did so why complain?

I agree also. A very thoughtful and well written post. It sort of sums up my feelings about a lot of the extreme rhetoric going around these days. The sky may indeed be falling but these guys have just cried wolf too often and much too stridently.
