Re: All weather or winter tires for Mazda MPV? [sramamur1]
by sramamur1 on Tue Nov 18 06:15:44 PST 2008
Thanks for the comments. I live in London, Ontario (between Detroit and Toronto) and had to deal with snow and ice for nearly six months in a year. Ideally, should use snow tires for winter and all seasosn for summer. Instead wondering whether we can get away with using all weather tires such as Nokian WRG2 throughot the year. We drive about 20,000 km/year (12,500 miles/year) and is it reasonable to expect that WRG2 will last for four years? Thanks again, Sri.

At least Ford doesn't have 6 different domestic nameplates weighing them down as GM does (Chevy,Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac,GMC, Hummer). But, G.G., all that is irelevent. They didn't need all these lines but GM had to maintain their franchise dealer agreements...it cost them more wasted $$$s to get out of Oldsmobile. We can't undo what has been done. Question is what do we do now? Maybe a Chapt 11 would at least let them reorganize and get rid of some major problems. They could continue but be much smaller. At lest the answer to last years site "Will styling save GM?" will soon be answered, just one year later.

My 328i is as big as the last generation 5 Series. When will it end In my case I hope it doesn't end. Why? Because my kids are growing and they need more leg room. So hopefully when my kids hit their teen years the 3 series will be as big as the current 7 series. ;)

as you am interested in the hy-brid, but when I really though about it, most of the miles I put on a car are interstate roads....so comfort is important to me. You are a perfect candidate for a diesel Audi, BMW or MBl. I get 17.5 MPG on my car due to stop and go city driving. In my case hybrids makes compelling sense.

BMW should focus on performance and now what they call efficiency dynmaics. BMWs have a traditon of being austere which is inconsistent with notion of cozy comfortable luxury excess.

Why do I love old MBs? Understated elegance versus the overzealous bling that exists today in the luxury car segment. Built with the highest quality possible to ensure durable longetivity versus the cars of today which are riddled with the kind of complexity that can lead to a blackhole of endless expenses and repairs. They were built and marketed by engineers whose sole concern was functionality versus today where non-fuctional features are added based on marketing focus groups. The fact that it took so long for the Germans to have cupholders IMO is a strength not a weakness. Coffee cups that may spill have no business whatsoever to be in any car. My 83 MB 300D was the last Mercedes Benz built that reflected the above attributes and I intend to keep that car as long as it lasts.
