Re: just got my fit sport in tidewater blue!
by fithappy on Sat Nov 08 12:19:32 PST 2008
i got it from mcgrath in the city. i don't think they would normally give you this price, you have to go in at the right time. i went at the end of the month and they are trying to meet their quota so they are more willing to negotiate. also, i was not in a hurry to get a car and my attitude is that i will buy a fit, but only at a price i want to pay. i got quotes from over 10 dealers, so i know when i get a good price. to someone who asked about if there are any extra cost. there isn't. it's pretty straight forward, i got it at the invoice price with all the normal taxes and fees.

Hi my name is chris and I live in Chicago and am shopping for a Fit. Could you tell me the dealer you purchased from? I have gotten the same price from three dealers, 16,020 for a fit base with automatic. I have my own financing and no car to trade. Yours sounds like an excellent deal. If I could get the sport with auto for 16,980 I think I would go the extra cash.

Couldn't ask for a better sub-compact. Topped gas tank for the first time (@ $1.47.9 per gallon) and the guage read 38.6 mpg for 295 miles city driving. Very comfortable and smooth driving. Got a Tidewater blue and everyone admires looks. I don't know how Honda could improve this vehicle. Love it.

Hi Middle: Aerodynamics, especially at freeway speeds. Frontal area (cross section) and drag. Weight has very little influence on mileage at a constant speed - and not that much if you accelerate slowly. Notice the height and width of the Fit - that's frontal area. Punching a bigger hole in the air takes more power and that takes more fuel. Then, notice its blunt back. Compare it to the back of a teardrop (the shape with the lowest possible aerodynamic drag) and then to the back of a Civic or a Corolla. The reason the Fit has better mileage in the City (where speeds are lower and aerodynamic drag less a factor) compared to a Civic is largely because it has a smaller motor. There are other factors but that's the big one. The reason the Civic (and Corolla) have better EPA mileage on the highway is less drag. Sedans are better in general because they have trunk which makes then a bit more tearsrop-esque, and is why my wife's Avalon (which is quite teardrop-shaped for a car - look at one) can get 30mpg on the freeway despite a 3.5L 268 hp engine. It's all physics. Byron p.s. Aero is also why the 2009 base Fit gets beter highway mileage than the sport. The spoiler, other external cosmetic trim and slightly wider tires on the sport add drag. That being said we love my daughter's sport auto in tidewater blue.
Bought TWO fits today at SouthShoreHonda in NY
by nursedaddy on Wed Oct 01 13:45:30 PDT 2008
Hi. Been wanting a Fit or two since last year, and waited for the '09. Walked into South Shore Honda today after checking their stock online. They happened to have an Orange sport, and a Tidewater blue base, both autos. After test driving a Civic LX and determining that it was just as wonderful and bland as the 1999 Civic we have, I opted to go with the car that made me smile. They let me test drive the Orange sport, and I was all grins. Sure it rides rougher than the Civic, and I could get a Civic for the same money, but I want a more utilitarian car that'll carry odd sized objects, fit in small spots, get great mileage, all the while feeling like a go-kart. So I bought both the Orange sport and Tidewater base automatic fits. Paid MSRP + tax and plates for each. Got the remote entry/security system thrown in on the blue base model. Settled for 5.49% financing for 60 months each. 10G's down (5 each) total payment for both cars will be $511 month. The dealer now has no more Fits. I bought the only two they had, in colors I liked. I got lucky.
