Saw 2 of them
by dean3927 on Sat Nov 15 19:32:49 PST 2008
I just saw 2 non-dealer Genesises on the road (Lake Elsinore, on Collier and 74). The first one seemed to be silver (it was twilight, so hard to tell), and I only caught the rear-left quadrant. At first I thought it was a Bimmer 5 series, but knew something was different. Turned my head as it passed to my left, and sure enough, the "flying H" was prominently displayed. The second one was just minutes later, a beautiful light-blue. Again, wasn't sure what it was, and thought it was a Lexus LS for a while just based on the taillights, then noticed that some details were definitely not Lexus. Moved up right behind it to take a picture with my cell phone, and sure enough, saw the "flying H." I passed it on the right, and it was an elderly couple, with the lady driving. If I am not mistaken, she had a big smile on her face - not surprised. BTW, I stopped by Garden Grove Hyundai a couple of months ago, and not only did they have 8+ Genesises on the lot, it was unexpected to find 2 V8's - one silver, one black, I think.
Today's Big Purchase!

I just drove home a new 2008 Grand Caravan SXT purchased in Folsom, California (Folsom Lake Dodge). The van was manufactured in March, 2008, and I responded to an internet sale advertisement (one day only). There were two vans for the same price. I chose the sandstone. The other van was silver. The window sticker states that the base price was $27,140. The sandstone paint was $150, customer preferred package 25k (window shades, premium floor console, light shale seats) was $495, destination charge states $770. Total MSRP was listed as $28,555. We paid 22,070.63 OTD. It breaks down as follows: Cash price $24,495 Document fee $55.00 Sales Tax $1779.88 Total Cash price $26,329.88 License/registration $240.75 Subtotal $26,570.63 $2500 rebate $2000 rebate for financing through Chrysler at 7.41 percent, 72 months (They said there was no prepayment penalty, so this seemed like a no brainer). OTD $22,070.63 It was hard to decide between the silver and the sandstone. The reason we preferred the sandstone was that it had a beautiful interior with light shale seats, (off white seats, with black carpet). The silver was also attractive with matching carpet and upholstery (dark gray). We paid the advertised price, which we thought was a fair price. We tried to bargain a lower price but only briefly because we were satisfied with the advertised price. It may have been discounted because the cars had not sold in 4 or 5 months on the lot, and they were motivated to move some inventory. I didn’t buy the supplemental warranty or the prepaid maintenance that was offered to us, but may buy a bumper to bumper warranty later from someone else. I’ll look through this forum for information regarding the btb warranty. This is the first new car I have ever bought in 38 years of driving! Everyone in the family seems to approve of this purchase, even the teenagers! My 8 year old was disappointed that it didn't have a DVD, but still likes the van. I hope to keep it for a long time.
Acura TL @ Champion's Houston

Just bought a silver TL base for $30600 OTD. The price+destination is $28560, the rest is TTL + misc. I am extremely happy with today's experience - no haggling at all, takes a few minutes for the salesman to give me the itemnized prices, then 10 minutes for the paperwork. The salesman said he'll delivered it on Monday since there are a few things to be done. B4 I went to the Champion's, I asked the quote of 2008 Lexus ES350 at Clear Lake Lexus. I mentioned that people getting around 34k OTD, the salesman said it is impossible for them to offer the price... The invoice for the all the entry level luxuries are similar, how come Lexus dealers are so hard to deal with?

Well since this is the gas cost thread, the Expedition seems to get similar fuel economy around town. With the 6 speed trans, I can get 19-20 on the hwy which is comparable to the new DOD 5.3 Tahoe/Suburban. Towing, I get better fuel economy with the Expedition. On my route to the lake we go to on the weekends towing our boat, the Suburban would get 12.5 basically every trip. Now, I've only made this trip twice with the Expedition and I've gotten 13.5 on the first trip and 13.7 on the second trip. I can't even describe the difference in towing performance with the 5.4's extra torque at lower rpm and the advantage of 2 extra gears, which the first 4 gears in the Ford are all lower than the first 3 with the GM 4 speed. The Expe is effortless with how it tows where the Burb always felt strained. I guess that's why the Expe is rated to tow quite a bit more than a 1/2 ton Suburban, yet doesn't ride like craps like the 3/4 ton Suburbans. Last month I spent $500 on gas, which includes several out of town trips. My wife's gas is paid for with her company car, so the gas bill in my earth destroying SUV isn't that bad. Not to mention, with gas prices I got a $6 - 8k discount on the Expedition vs. if gas was still $2/gal, so that purchase price savings will buy quite a bit of gas
Bought a TL Re: Price paid in Houston [beezer86]

Just bought a silver Acura TL base for $30600 OTD (06-28). The price+destination is $28560, the rest is TTL + misc. It is stiff, but not much noisy to me. The dring is OK - a bit sporty, not as smooth as I thought. B4 I went to the Champion's, I called Clear Lake Lexus for a quote of 2008 Lexus ES350. I mentioned that people getting around 34k OTD, the salesman said it is impossible for them to offer the price... Just don't understand the Houston Lexus dealers, looks they are not affected by the national sale slump, so no discounting.
08 pkg #5 in Sacramento
by prelec on Sun Feb 24 12:59:41 PST 2008
I bought a new red pkg #5 for $24,500 yesterday. There was an ad from Maita Toyota for $23,988. I called and they said they had a silver and a white - msrp $26,464. The white was ok, but it had 67 mi and had been on the lot since Dec. I called the internet dept at Folsom Lake Toyota and asked if they could match. They said red or green which I preferred msrp of $26,750(wheel locks and floor mats) - selling price $24,500. They were a little slow getting me through finance, but there was no hammering for extras. A very pleasant experience. Do you think I got a good deal?
