Re: Thanks & Hello [paul_p]
by csky on Mon Mar 31 17:07:53 PDT 2008
Howdy Paul, Yes Ive owned a 93 extended cab sr5 v6 5 speed 4x4.I purchased this pickup from my step son 2001 or 2002. I live in colorado so my wife and i love camping in the mountains .after I bought the p.u. we purchased a 25 ft gulf stream travel trailer [ i was setting us up to buy a tundra hehehe]anyway the p.u. had 99000 miles on it when i bought it ,and ive towed that trailer over wolf creek pass ,loveland pass and the list goes on,I,ll tell what a few times I had to put the transfer case into low range ,to pull some of these mountains ,but what a view ,I sold the p.u. with 164000 miles on it ,[$4500.00] to friends 17 year old son and he loves It. There is no secret as to why toys jus keep on going an going , This truck was well maintained by the 1st owner ,then my step son and me being the 3rd owner --- I had history maintainance records from the 1st owner and on down to me. I did regular maintance as ,timing belt was replaced at 78000 and then at 15000 miles ,I put a new clutch ,pressure plate flywheel ,t.o bearing at 134000 miles ,the old clutch still had about 10000 left on it ,and the truck is still going ,I used synthetic oil ,since it had a history of syn. use. I used about 1/ 2 quart between changes . Any how you have an excellent p.u. -change all you fluids including differintial ,regularly and i recomend timing belt replacement before you find a cruise controll unit ,your truck will not die !! oh ya i did buy a 2005 tundra ,luv it . Good day
Leaking coolant
by aredtruck on Sun Mar 02 17:31:32 PST 2008
Just this weekend I trucked to the top of Wolf Creek Pass in my 2001 4.7L Dakota. When I stepped out of my truck I could smell coolant immediately and it was my car leaking it. When I popped the hood it appeared that the coolant had been spewing from the overflow bottle. This is the first time I've ever had this problem and cannot seem to figure out exactly what it could be. My fist suspicion is that the radiator cap has gone bad and the pressure is now incorrect. Does this sound like the culprit? So after that I drove it into town, topped it off with coolant and proceeded to drive home. After going back over the pass I stopped at a gas station and found the same problem of leaking coolant from the overflow bottle. Unsure of what to do I drove it back to Boulder without a problem. But as I pulled into my drive, coolant was leaking once again. Any solutions? Thanks
2,800 mile trip to/from Durango CO.
by bobgordon on Tue Dec 26 08:18:28 PST 2006
We drove from the "burbs" of Chicago, leaving on the 13th for Durango Colorado and arrived home late Friday night and thought I'd share my feelings on my 4Runner. Driving out west we averaged 18.8 mpg, actual. Since this was our first road trip in my 4R, I thought this wasn't too bad considering we had a head wind all the way to the Rockies. In the Rockies, I was impressed with the power the V6 had, didn't shift into 3rd gear that often and really had all the pep we needed considered we were loaded with luggage and presents. You all I'm sure have heard about the winter storm that hit Denver and surrounding area's? Well we left Durango to come home on Thursday, the day after the storm. Durango didn't get the snow like they did to the north and east so we headed towards Wolf Creek Pass but they were blasting the mountian for avalanches. We turned around at Pagosa Springs and headed southwest into New Mexico hoping to take I-70 through Kansas then north home. At Pueblo Colorado, I-25 was open north to Denver (finally) but I-70 remained closed. I-25 should have stayed closed but the powers to be opened it. Folks, there are peoples homes in Denver that the snow on the roof meets the snow on the ground! After 13 hours, made it to just north east of Denver off of I-76 and spent the night, Brighton Colorado. Early Friday we left Brighton and I-76 was a mess! I-80 was even worse with more cars and trucks in the ditches than I ever care to see again. The mpg coming home was 21.5 actual but that was with a slight tail wind and "down hill" to home. Bottom line is that even with the crappy Dunlop (factory) tires, this truck handled very well in the mountian passes and ice packed highways. 4 wheel drive worked great as I had to "play" with it if you know what I mean. The DAC (downhill assist control) worked very well going through the truns and passes in the Rockies. I'm pleased with the mileage I got also. Cons would be the VSS which would kick in every time the back wheels spun...rather annoying sound but I could shut it "off" with the center diff lock button "on". Can Toyota make a softer windshield?! It's rather hard to avoid salt from being kicked up from the trucks/cars ahead of you but my windshield is littered with tiny white holes from the salt. Happy to be home but hopefully, someday Durango will be home.
Re: Civic'06 - HELP! Ringing / Tak Tak Noise [lilhartastone]
by ellll on Sat Aug 26 07:34:04 PDT 2006
Friends, Most interesting about front struts/..several models inc Civic seem to have failures..Sorry to hear of two being bad on the ref. above from lilhartastone..others also have had problems.. (The following is on my overall satisfaction...) I would like to report for me however, after a 6800 mile "tour" in my 2006 Civic over the last two weeks..It is much as advertised...and then some. I am MUCH more happy now..Got 47+ MPG in the high plains of Texas...at 70 MPH...Averaged 43+ for the trip, at 60 to 75 MPH all on sec. roads..(Only short stretches of interstate...most roads in the west of USA are now at 70 mph..) Very minor road noise for the size and everything worked great, inc. stereo, air, and controls as far as I can tell... It has very little trouble in the passes, (Wolf Creek/Monarch and others at 10,500 ft+ to around 12,000..some really hard approaches ..tho' you have to use revs...)...The control at speed in mountian curves is really good for a small sedan...(and the strut on my rt. front performed fine, tho' the noise is distracting on small bumps , STILL..!! It wll be repaired, no cost to me, in the next few weeks...waiting on the part).. I am pleased, overall and would buy another in a minute...and to all complainers in general..if you are not getting reasonable MPG and performance you must really drive hard...Maybe you need a sport coupe..BMW or sim... I get 29-35 MPG here at home, in town according to "how much the foot is on the floorboard"..Floorboard operation will cut you down a lot, you know..(I have been known to drive too agressively in town)... My Regards, to all, John (ellll)
Re: Snow [c_hunter]

Craig, This snow was in South Fork Colorado, near the Wolf Creek ski area which has around 60" :-) The ranch where my friends live has some unploughed roads that I went playing on. As you can see, the snow was tire-depth and the Outback handled it really well even without snow tires - and the roads are steep in places. Several FWD cars and even my friend's 2WD pickup with studded tires had trouble even getting up the ploughed parts. Tim.

Interesting that you mentioned Wolf Creek Pass. When my wife was taking our daughter out to school, they were stuck at "the pass" for about 2 hours. Construction on a new tunnel but I guess everbody got out of their vehicles and basically had a big party. Anyway, that's why I had to get a new vehicle. Kids.....they go away to college and think (get) the folks car! Damn! :-( That BTW is a beautiful part of the country.
