Re: Dealership with cool inventory [lilelvis]

I thought Purcellville sounded familiar. Looked it up, and I see it's on Route 7, between DC and Winchester. I've passed through it a few times. Wow, small world! Speaking of that late 60's/early 70's style Chevy truck, I saw one being towed the other day. It was actually a medium-duty truck though, just a cab and partial front-end on a long ladder frame. I hope it's going off somewhere to be restored, rather than just junked. Old medium- and heavy-duty rigs have always fascinated me. I know there probably isn't much market for them, but I still think they're pretty neat.

For the 75 bucks they are going to run a fused 10 ga circuit from the battery thru the firewall, under the carpet and to the console. Then wire in the 3 power points. "They" are Rhino Linings of Winchester, Va.They have done several things to my Tacoma truck and do nice work at decent prices. Good people to deal with.

Lemko, do you mean that white one I posted, with the pimpy red leather interior out in Winchester VA? I'm kinda tempted, but that's at least 2 hours away, and the weather's been pretty nasty here, anyway. My '79 5th Ave is still at the mechanic, just getting a general checkover. I did want him to check the front suspension though, because something just doesn't feel quite right in the left tire. The Gran Fury wasn't added to the R-body lineup until 1980. Basically, it IS a Newport, just with the inner parts of the grille blacked out. And the taillights are from a St. Regis, just with the white/gray trim removed. It might have had its own seat pattern, but I doubt it. Dashboard would have been identical as well. However, the Newport used black plastic where the St. Regis and New Yorker used fake woodgrain. I'm not sure what the Gran Fury would have used.
I wonder...

if you could find a way to hook up a 4-speed automatic overdrive tranny to that 454, if it would help fuel economy much? As for weight, my '85 Silverado, according to the scale at the local landfill, weighs about 4200 pounds. And it's just a half-ton truck. I imagine in 3/4 ton form, and with the 454, that '76 could be pushing 5,000 lb? Oh, on the subject of my '85 Silverado, it's in the shop right now for new front brake pads, an oil change, chassis lube, etc., and for anything else scary that the mechanic can't find. Just got a call from them, and it got a clean bill of health. So hopefully I won't have to be on the lookout for a replacement for it anytime soon. Although it is fun to look sometimes. :) My '79 5th Ave is going in tonite, so hopefully it'll be as painless as the Silverado was! Otherwise, I might be heading out to Winchester VA to look at that white one with the pimpy red interior! :P

'77 Rolls: fin, hand me my 5-shot Winchester pump shotgun will you? We gotta stop this car before it kills again. RE: 273 vs. 318 Look on the front face of the left(driver's side) cylinder head. Clean it off (the part that faces the radiator). It should say the CID right on there.
