Re: All weather or winter tires for Mazda MPV? [sramamur1]
by sramamur1 on Tue Nov 18 06:15:44 PST 2008
Thanks for the comments. I live in London, Ontario (between Detroit and Toronto) and had to deal with snow and ice for nearly six months in a year. Ideally, should use snow tires for winter and all seasosn for summer. Instead wondering whether we can get away with using all weather tires such as Nokian WRG2 throughot the year. We drive about 20,000 km/year (12,500 miles/year) and is it reasonable to expect that WRG2 will last for four years? Thanks again, Sri.

I tried to buy a Saturn Aura XR, but they did not match both the discount price and trade-in price, so I ended up with a Honda Accord SE '07. Simply cost net-net, less to buy. Consists of 85% US content. I have had it in for repairs, so no it is not 100% trouble free. My early 80's Datsun Nissan was bought used, and was 95% trouble free - headlamp needed replacing at a cost of something like $17. It had an inline fuse go on the air conditioning. Had a Corolla '98 and it was around 90% or better trouble free for 7 years. Have had good luck with the Miatas I have bought, so I may consider a Mazda car some day, or a Ford/Mazda car like the Fusion, if Ford is still around. Actually, I kinda like the looks of a Mustang, and I think they are pretty much trouble free. Not the best car for transporting more than one passenger however :) I like the performance of a Honda, and the road feel and all. As for trouble free, I think not. I will see how the next couple of years go, and if it has no more issues, then I will rate her an average or better in respect to trouble free, a sort of 80% car. Good power and good enough gas mileage with the V6. Aura's are very good for HP in the XR, a little less width inside though, with slightly high door window sills, and a silly foot emergency brake. The six speed tranny on the Aura is good; no make that very good. But the trade-in allowance was going to suck up the $1,500 off on the Aura, so I moved on.

Hi Dewey The older Mercedes were quite plush in an elegant sort of way...I don`t care for too much chrome, but back then even with the large amounts of chrome, the cars looked good, and carried the chrome well.....I remember one moder, a convertable that a friend of mine owned, had leather on the inside of the glove box....It was a very expensive car in it`s day.... I as you am interested in the hy-brid, but when I really though about it, most of the miles I put on a car are interstate roads....so comfort is important to me....I get around twenty five -six mpg, and my wife twenty nine on her bmw 5...I drive a bit faster than her, her engine is the streight six with 255hpor 265 I don`t remember, but her mpg is accurate, so I don`t really understand why the 1 series is as Tagman says ( not doubting him), and Howard if you read this, didn`t you want a car that your bike could fit in? If so, you needed the 3 to be big :) Tony

It took me exactly six months from the day I ordered to the day I took delivery of my fully loaded AWD 2009 FEHL (April 21 - Oct 21). It has been the best vehicle I've ever driven (all 700 miles of it). I've been averaging about 28 mpg in mostly city driving. Based upon what I've read in this an other forums, I expect the mileage to drop a little during the colder months and pick up again when the weather warms up again in the Spring. I'm still getting used to talking to my vehicle via Sync, but I'm getting the hang of it. Being my first large vehicle (I have a hard time saying the word "truck" for some reason), I really appreciate the backup sensors, which I am happy to report can be turned off when backing up out of my side of the two-car garage to avoid the beeping noise that occurs as soon as I put the car into reverse. I'm just glad there's an easy way to turn the sensors on/off quickly for those of us with two individual garage doors.

"That horespower will matter when merging or passing. Torque is what gets you going from a start." Not necessarily. And not unless you really rev it up.The only way you will get the Maximas greater maximum horsepower is to wind it up to much higher than necessary revs. Sure, the Nissan may have a sight edge in a drag race, but most people do not rev their motors to their maximum revs in normal everyday driving. In normal everyday daily driving, extra torque is the better way to go. I will take a modern 3.7L with more torque to a warmed over higher HP 3.5L engine anytime. Torque is what pulls you along in normal everyday driving, when doing normal driving, grade climbing, leaving normally from a dead stop, etc. Many do not like the CVT and prefer feeling the gear changes, and from what I have read, Mazdas six speeds do get the job done. I drove that CVT tranny for two days in a rental and it does take some getting used to.
