Re: 2008 Honda Crv MPG information - Year's worth of observations [d07]
by lzc on Tue Nov 18 05:06:41 PST 2008
Your mileage record is similar to mine. I'm at 26.6 mpg overall on a '07 CR-V, with a hwy-city mix of about 60-40%. Hwy mileage can be improved easily. Slow down. 65 mph gets you better mileage than 75, and 55 mph is even better. Most of us, though, aren't going to poke along at 55 mph and some think 75 on the open road is too slow. The trade off is time versus money.
Re: RAV4 Base 4x4 in Oregon [brandenb]

Grossinger City Toyota near North and Wells - It's part of the Grossinger Toyota Group. The guy I worked with is the Internet Sales Manager. I got near that price with Arlington Toyota and Continental Toyota as well as 2-3 more. All within about $200. Grossinger was the first to guarantee me delivery on the day I wanted it. I got pre-negotiated pricing from my Costco membership (which guaranteed me the invoice price), then shopped that price with the internet managers at a number of dealerships. That's how I got under the invoice price - even on a rare car like the third row RAV4. Actually the internet manager misquoted me the price on the car (did not add the 6 CD changer price) and ended up giving me the feature for free. I think I was $700 under invoice.
2010 going to have a 5-speed auto?
by kurtamaxxxguy on Mon Oct 06 08:11:20 PDT 2008
Given the din of automotive journalistic criticism over the Forester's 4-speed Auto, I really wonder if Subaru will give the 2010 version a 5-speed Autotrans? There are some reviewers, though (C&D, for one) that feel the current 4-speed is well matched and does the job. The sport shift does make it more responsive to "spirited" driving. My '09 XT seems to shift well (far less driveline lash than newer Outbacks!) and ratios seem fine for suburban / city driving. With cruise control, it lets the torque converter adjust to handle hills (a lot of cars simply shift back and forth). Note; For those driving over 75 on interstates, the engine will be turning over 2500 rpm, which does use more fuel and ups noise level. No problem in Oregon (65's our limit) but definitely so in speed-hungry Calif. ;)
Things do change

When revisiting my Lithia Subaru dealer's web site (Oregon City, OR), I noticed their "3 day assurance" warranty offered while I was buying my Subie is no longer mentioned. Lithia has been having profit issues lately; my guess is they dropped the warranty to save costs. Its presence was one reason I bought my XL from them, though.
Real World Mileage

I have 2004 that I bought as the 2nd owner from a Toyota Dealership in January of 2008. At that time it had 31K original miles and they sold me a full bumper to bumper warranty at my time of purchase. At that time they told me 17-19 MPG Highway and 13-15 City. Real world? I drive 15 miles to work every day 2/3's freeway and 1/3 city streets. I average about 13 miles per gallon. On a trip from Sacramento to Oregon which was 602 miles, I averaged 17.5 loaded with two adults and one child. On a trip from Sacramento to Los Angeles (Disneyland) with three adults and three children I averaged 18.2 MPG. I use 87 Octane gas all the time.
2009 mileage, biodiesel, and price
by rodneyh1 on Mon Sep 08 14:06:24 PDT 2008
I've had mine 2 weeks and about 800 miles. It's the 6 sp manual. First tank was a somewhat dissapointing 38.7 mpg with about 75% highway / 25% city. I'll withold judgement for at least another tank or 2. The dealer filled the 1st tank, and I don't know whether they topped it off or not. I'm running B99 from a ruputable source (that 1st tank was petro-diesel from the dealer), but will switch to B50 for the winter months. I've been running this for an extended period in my '86 Jetta with absolutely no modifications and absolutely no problems. There is a long waiting list (couple months for the sedan, and about 6 months for the wagon), but I was in the right place at the right time. I walked into Volkswagon of Salem (Oregon) to test drive their white demo on Friday afternoon and picked up mine Saturday morning when it rolled in. They charged me exactly MSRP plus title fees for a total price of $22,812. I'm pretty sure I'll get $1,300 back from the fed, for a total price of $21,512. Rod
