When you get ready to buy I would check with Portland dealers. I got a great deal from Armstrong Buick Volkswagen in Gladstone Oregon. I tried several Washington state dealers and my impression was not good. They would not even talk lower than MSRP. I have a real aversion to paying anything above invoice so we just did not see eye to eye. All the dealers in Portland were more open to dealing than those in WA. That was 2005. The Internet guy I dealt with retired to Hawaii. I guess I talked him into it. I think it will take a couple months for the dust to settle. By winter when the heating oil kicks up the price of diesel the dealers may be easier to deal with.

I did try the portland dealers, mainly toyota of gladstone and ron tonkin, both were only ready to come down about $50 - $100 below invoice (invoice included TDA, WHS, Holdback and Gas charge). I tried a bunch of dealers in seattle / portand dealers via email attack and then talked to the ones that were the lower in initial offer. The catch was that I wanted a specific color (barcelona red with ash leather / nav) and there were only 2-3 cars in 2008 left in that. Ultimately, we had to get the car from Eugene, worked with Burien Toyota and they had a driver fetch the car for us from Eugene, which played a major role since I didn't have to take a day off or go over the weekend to get the car, our prior car (Lexus GS 350) was totaled and we needed a new car pronto. No doubt, if I was not in a hurry, would have waited till end of month and then tried to get another 300-400 off but I tried that last month and didn't work out in seattle. On the positive side, got $400 off from toyota so total was $27427 for MSRP of $31188, dealer invoice was $28027. Plus they tacked on a doc charge which was not disclosed earlier so I had them give me a $50 gas voucher in lieu of the doc fee. All in all, we were pretty satisfied, its hard to commute with a single car in seattle when you have 2 people working with a daycare drop/pickup.

2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6
by kmanpdx on Sun Feb 17 10:46:28 PST 2008
Here's my negotiating story from hell.... Beaverton Oregon - Bob Lamphere Beaverton Honda. Some facts: - EX-L V6 - Polished Metal Metallic - Black leather interior - Rear Spoiler - Mud Flaps - wheel locks - 230 miles on it!!! - liked Altima - had pricing for 08 Altima 3.5 SL for 27k (really good deal I think) Ok so the negotiation on the 08 Accord starts. They had a 'sale price' of $28,800. I had an Internet manager offer for the same base vehicle from another dealer that was farther away for $26,868 with mud flaps only. I offered that same amount at Beaverton Honda and of course out comes the sales manager. First thing out of his mouth "We are the largest Honda dealer in the Northwest"...oh boy that means they are not going to deal with me I'm thinking (which turned out true). So I tell him about the offer from another dealership. He says they are lying to get me in the door - call them and ask for a VIN number...so I call to validate. The Internet manager at Gladstone Honda (who was very up front and honest with me) then says sorry we don't have with black leather (I forgot to specify this with her in my email) only grey but we have one coming in will honor at the same price when it comes in. I tell this to local dealer. He tries to tell me that: - that color is the most wanted - Honda Accords are NOT invoive vehicles - they are the largest dealer and there's no way anyone else can sell theirs for that little and make money - he said he would work with me on the Silver accord (they had 4-5 on hand) I tell him: - if you are the largest dealer then you get volume pricing and holdbacks (he stumbled a bit when I said this!) - this vehicle has been on the lot for a while since it has 230 miles on it (plus I test drove it the weekend before) - I don't want the silver - I'll go to 27k (hey I really liked it!) since it has the wheel locks and spoiler he counters - well with the dealer installed accessories I'll want more then that but why don't you and the sales guy talk about it see what you can do I offer sales guy one last time: tell him 27k, I'll do financing through you and since you are 5 miles from my house all service work will be here. He comes back w/ a no and I leave the lot. Then the salesman calls me later in the evening and has the audacity to ask me if I purchased from the other dealer. I explained to him again that the other dealership didn't have black leather but have one coming in. He said they did too and give me a call if you'd like to deal on it (yea right I thought). In my opinion - this dealer was very selfish. I offered a thousand OVER invoice -- which that's the published invoice - I'm sure they were making much more then that on the vehicle (please anyone correct me if I'm wrong on that point). I'm very frustrated at the "Large Volume" dealers - don't be fooled people - this is the second Large Volume dealer I've dealt with. Because they are large they know that the vehicle is going to sell eventually anyway and as such are not willing to work with you or give you a good deal!!!! So I'll be purchasing from another dealership soon enough. And I'll go out of my way to get service somewhere else as well.
took delivery of MKX
by mandkole on Sat Feb 16 09:56:32 PST 2008
In 25 years of car buying, the best experience we've ever had to date buying a car after dealing with Gary-Worth in Gladstone, Or. Came out of an A4 lease. With the incentives right now, we leased a fully loaded MKX (elite, spec ed, ultimate) for $615/mo out the door with only $220 out of pocket (24mo/ 15K, 63% residual). The list was $45K; w/ incentives, we were at less than $40K. With the .000207 Red Carpet rate for 24mo, we will actually be able to buy this rig after 2 years for a better buy then with a cash deal right now.... My wife just loves it and the kid loves the nav system toys. The sync system works as advertised and they have their stuff all plugged in.
Re: New 07 Touring Pkg 6 [rkche]
by michaelcozens on Sun Oct 07 18:13:25 PDT 2007
The sticker on this was 28207- Included the Rear Bumper Applique ( $65) and the Acc Package- Floor Mats, etc ($277)It is a package 6- with Leather. The price was 27370- A little less off MSRP than I had stated before-now that I go thru it. In any case this was less than Edmunds said the going pricing was for this and it was one of the few touring models we had seen. AS a postscript, we got the heated seats and XM in now and both are very cool and really complete the car. The people at Gladstone Toyota ( near Portland Or) were pretty good. I'd suggest using the net to narrow down your option and see where the pricing is. Good Luck, hope this is helpful!
