Re: Is it possible to back out of a car purchase? [jipster]
by madmanmoo on Mon Nov 03 06:07:48 PST 2008
Because he got additional discounts off the vehicle in addition to the rebate. I hate customers like this. They see evil in every corner, shop all over town then back out of deals. What a giant PITA. It sounds like the dealership has done a good job of helping him out. And with the amount of profit that he's paying, what exactly does he expect? Ritz Carlton service? Buy the car for your daughter and be done with it. You're all tweaked out about a couple hundred dollars and the vehicle not being made next year. Big deal. Sigh.

My wife got to go to a DOE conference one time in DC. They put everyone up at the Ritz-Carlton/Pentagon City. I tagged along but was irritated that they wanted people to wear coats and ties in the lobby. Sheesh. Most of that stuff could have been handled with some video conferencing. I'd hate to see the price tag for a full blown convention. Now ... does anyone have any comments about how the price of gas is affecting you? Even if it's dropped a good bit below $4 in lots of places around the country?

I don't expect everyone to get the squeezed price but I don't want anyone to pay more than $500 than I paid. (We have some examples who paid less than I paid which made me happy and jealous). Cars are not a peice of art that are unique . The car factories are making cars like hell and they should sell. In this market that dealers are looking for buyers should offer competitive prices. If Hyundai dealers would not give competitive prices, buyers would swith to Toyota or Honda or ..... If I live in IOWA and local dealers ask for over $500 (like $2000 as you said) I would rather take a flight to NJ and stay in Ritz Carlton Hotel for a night and get my car $2000 less there. It would be much cheaper. About my location in NH, believe me the dealer in Manchester had priced the cars $1500 over the MSRP !!!. Not all the dealers are the same.

my point being that a 30 year old who performs that work is still only worth $5.35 an hour, if that...it is the WORK that demands no skills...if the WORKER has other skills they should use them and do other work... Bob, no doubt, if you have the skills, you should aspire to do better. However, Chick-fil-A can hire the 14 yr old just like the moms they hire, because they have the shifts available to accomodate them. Think of it a diiferent way; many companies pay a shift differential for 3rd shift. Generally, it's 10%. Now, the SKILL SET is still the same for that job, but they pay an incentive to get people to work off hours. Now, Walmart could hire a 14 yr old to do a job (let's say janitorial) from 4-7 pm, plus weekends, and get away with paying minimum wage. They could hire a mom to do it from 10-2, and the same thing applies. But if they need someone FULL TIME, 40 hrs/wk, the game changes. SAME skill set, different game. Could they get a retiree to do it for minimum? Sure. But, how many want to? I say the wage required has as much to do with incentive to get you in as it does with skill set. In this case, incentive to work full time, as opposed to overnight. Another thing would be area (combat pay????). Pushing a broom takes the same skill in NYC as in El Paso, but obviously is worth more doing it for the Ritz Carlton as opposed to a Motel 6. So while I'll reiterate that pushing a broom is not meant for the guy living in a Mc Mansion raising 5 kids, the value is based on more than just the skill set it takes to do the job.
Re: new lease crappy car [jeqq]

I don't understand your post. Are you saying that I should blame the salesman or dealership for leasing me a brand new car that manufacturer screwed up on? Or that I implied that he might not support me if I ran into further problems? 1. the salesman did not produce the car. the dealership handled the problem within their normal guidelines and quickly too. Certainly I was not happy that I was inconvenienced and would not have put up with improper service or lack of concern on their part. 2. if the car came back to me in an unsatisfactory condition, I would expect his support in handling my potential dissatisfaction. Some salesmen do get lazy and try to brush off tough issues after the sale and I made sure he understood that I wasn't going to accept that 3. I didn't get too pissed because I got a service rental 535i that I got to drive really hard for a day to see how it handled. 4. I only leased my car for 2 years, I didn't buy it for the long haul. If reliability was my primary concern, I would have gotten the cushy Lexus LS460 that I was also considering. 5. BMW's (the manufacturer) screwup cost them $900 since I got a nice dinner and a restful Saturday night stay at the Ritz Carlton near where my car broke down and have a nice $100 Sunday champagne brunch and a leisurely Sunday $200 hired car ride home courtesy of Travel Interruption Reimbursement program that comes with BMW Assist. Or are you saying that you're astonished that I would improperly think that the salesman might think I'd be angry with him for a problem that you feel he is not personally responsible for? There are plenty of customers that do this and give their salesmen a bad rating in the follow up survey that can affect their financial compensation for months since many dealerships tie customer satisfaction ratings directly to the salesmen's compensation.
price paid for 2008 fit sport on OK
by goviatt on Thu Mar 06 18:18:41 PST 2008
I bought my 2008 sport through don Carlton Honda in Tulsa, OK for 15,632 out the door. They had several to choose from. I went straight internet with bids from 6 dealers ranging from $15,632 to a high of $16,579, all "out the door" incl all fees. An easy experience with the printed quote in hand I picked mine up the next week and saved almost a grand over the high price.
