Sure you can spend $300 on a pair of jeans or $150 on shoes, but cheap alternatives exist at most retailers. I remember back in the 70's and early 80's, my Mom usually bought me cheap shoes. Either NBA from Kinney Shoes, or some Thom McCahns or something like that. They usually came to about $20. Adjusted for inflation, $20 in 1980 is about $58 today. Yet today, you could get a halfway decent pair of shoes for about $50-60. Obviously not some top-of-the-line blingy thing, but it's not something the other kids will make fun of, either. Yet today, if you still want cheap shoes, go to WalMart, K-Mart, or Payless, and you'll still pay about twenty bucks for them.

John McElroy's column: Way back in 1979 when Chrysler needed government help, there was a political cartoon that perfectly captured the situation. If featured an old Plymouth Fury with giant tail fins teetering halfway over a cliff, with a tow truck parked nearby. A bystander wearing a shirt labeled U.S. Taxpayer was staring at the car on the cliff. The tow truck driver was nonchalantly picking his teeth and telling the taxpayer, "I can tow it out, or push it over the cliff, but either way it's going to cost you." Nuf Ced.
how to deactivate ASR
by mongoss on Fri Nov 14 10:51:32 PST 2008
Hi all, Have a few years of the Sprinters starting with an '06 model. My ? is how do you deactivate the ASR? My trucks are all cargo vans and I use them for carrying mostly flat boxes that I deliver to small companies Myself including a few of my drivers keep getting stuck when the darn thing goes into effect. I know its a safety thing but.... its also safety when I get stuck halfway up a tarmac street that is lightly covered in snow and I don't have the recommended 600 + lbs in the back for adequate weight over the rear wheels. I had 1 of my drivers get stuck on a hill a few weeks ago on wet leaves! He proceeded to back down the hill with hazzards on using both of his mirrors and the backup camera and was struck from behind by a car coming up the hill.

That 2002 - I guess it's a warning sign when you can change the shocks from inside the trunk, top and bottom! It might make a good parts car, if it runs as advertised, and the chrome looks halfway decent. But the body's DOA. I did see a 745i (the turbo 6) on the way back from lunch. IIRC it also had those failure-prone self-adjusting rear shocks. Oh yes, the SHOs chronicals - that guy needed to go to the Shifty School of Advertising Composition - I got lost halfway through

probably a good idea to have your timing belt and water pump changed, and have it done a tune up including oil change, spark plugs. Agreed. You would not want to discover that your car needs a timing belt halfway into your trip. I'd recommend that you surf for the transporation bureau of California and find out as much as you can. They may provide for a temporary license allowing you to drive a few months before having to upgrade your car. Suggestion: If your vehicle needs major upgrades you may want to sell it to someone who is leaving the state! :D Happy trails!

Probably nobody has heard of the GTS, but it was so fun and had fantastic handling. Are you kidding? Easily the best FWD car Toyota ever built, and SUCH a blast to drive fast! I almost bought one of those used about six or seven years ago, and to this day I regret not doing so. It's people who remember cars like that who say that Toyota today is a different company. The Toyota that existed up until about 1993 is truly dead. And of course all the fun old Hondas were hatches too. The Fit is sort of a pale imitator, given that it is stuck halfway between pocket rocket and shrunken utility vehicle in its design priorities, but it is still a cool little hatch. Now if only they would offer the Civic type-R from Europe alongside its SI sedan and coupe siblings with the same powertrain, I could be truly happy! :-) Instead, if I want a performance car under $25K, I mostly have only coupes and sedans to pick from, except for GTI and WRX (and I guess MS3). And of those only one is offered as a 3-door.
