GMC Gauges in Dashboard by smittycr on Fri Dec 09 15:24:26 PST 2011

There is a known problem with the stepper motors in back of each gauge. Some states have forced a recall, others, such as Texas, are ignoring the issue. I bought a full set of stepper motors on eBay and my brother replaced them. no problems since. I agree it's a safety issue. I almost had heart failure - seriously - when my speedometer said 100+ and other cars were passing me like I was a snail. A year earlier, I got a speeding ticket for 80+ in a 65 and I kept telling the patrolman I was not going over 80; I know I speed but I don't go over 80. Since the problem was so sporadic for while, I didn't realize it was the stupid gauge. Stepper motors were about $35 and it required removing the dash but it wasn't bad at all. There are several places that advertise changing them all out - 1 in Austin and the other in Tulsa.

Re: any simillar cam shaft problems? [ruking1] by 06tdibadcam on Fri Oct 14 08:32:57 PDT 2011

With a 1/2" hole thru one of the lifters and not sure where all metal is, plus indentation on the other 7 lifter faces, plus all of the copper wear on bearings, plus the wear on the camshaft, we do not know what to do. We took car to an independent vw shop in Tulsa and they replaced cam and $1600 of other parts. But how much damage was done to rest of engine with debris is a guess. VW knew about the cams in some of the 06 Jettas, we are screwed as far as this car. I wanted to post pictures but not sure how or if allowed on Edmunds. Thanks for your input on oil. I have used Mobil One in my gas cars for years, but warned by VW that warranty would be void if I did not use Castrol 505 01 from VW.

"severe poverty among Native American Indians, dried up farm land, and idle oil fields. If that's "blanket", then just cover it up with the Kool-Aid." R-- I won't contest the dried up farm land given our extraordinary drought, but you have only to look at the indian casinos that have cropped up everywhere in the State, especially on the borders to see that any poverty is tribe-specific. Several of the tribes now run daily Hollywood-made commercials promoting tribal history, autonomy and accomplishments. East of downtown Tulsa and near Joplin, MO now looks like Vegas. Many tribes now offer full scholarships to my institution. Not too many idle oil fields either with the relative uptick in oil; our huge natural gas reserves are making companies like Chesapeake Energy and Koch Industries flush with cash and able to hire. I'm not looking to argue I'm just pointing out that there are some hopeful signs among the constant drumbeat of doom and gloom. Gogiboy
